The "Original candy Crack" that I first heard about many many years ago only had 3 ingredients and was the easiest thing in the world to make.
Saltines
Sugar
Butter
Melt the sugar and butter, pour over single layered Saltines then bake until the bubbles are thick, light brown and fighting for air!
(That last part....don't ask me cause I don't know for sure what it means? I can say all the batches that I made always got gone quick. Lol. So I must have got it right by sight, anyway. But over the years I have added and tried different ideas of family and friends with the subtle......"hey Wonder how this or that would taste if you added it?" They were all hits. My family's favorite is "Almond Cheer" Bet you know what that's a "Copycat" of?? Just take away the pecans from yours and add Almond slivers and shredded coconut and you have it. Plus I love peppermint candy with coconut so sometimes I'll crush some peppermint and add a sprinkle over the Almond Cheer. So good! One more idea is to top the candy Crack with Andes Mints by melting and stirring them, so you can pour and smooth out a layer on top. It's fun to try coming up with new ideas during the holidays. Another fast and simple candy is
Layer pretzel knots, add a Rolo on each and top with a pecan half. Heat in the oven until you can push the pecan to flatten the Rolo to the pretzel. That's our Hillbilly Pecan Turtles. Much love to you all and God bless.
@@suehinson1629 Sounds so good! Thank you!
Merry Christmas to All of you down south !!! Sent a Care Package down south yesterday for someone living in a tent !!!
@@lindapetersen1800 Thank you Linda!! Merry Christmas to you!!
Hi! Origin of the crack. Many years ago a Jewish friend gave me the recipe, but it called for matzoh crackers. It was made during Passover since no leavened or raised bread/ desserts could be eaten. So an unleavened dessert. Over the years, the saltines were used as a variation. I like to use regular or chocolate graham crackers. This week I will make it with toasted coconut and mini marshmallows. Thank you for your content and for sharing your family and culture with everyone. Have a Merry Christmas!🎄
Katie, I remember being on a very strict diet for my baby. She is now 40. I used to tell myself that when I could, I was gonna get me one of those huge one lb Hershey bars and eat the whole thing. lol Of course I never did but it made me feel better thinking about it at the time. I understand your love for your baby and applaud you for taking care of yourself so you can take care of him. A mother’s love is fierce. 👩🌾💙
My son was born with many allergies, 97% of life in general. Back in my day they didn't tell the nursing mom what to eat or not. I did catch on to some things. He started shots at the age of 2 and that helped a lot! He was passed it all by age 9 except hay fever. You'll be combing through a lot of cookbooks as Ira starts on solid foods. Joe loved gingerbread and banana bread. No eggs and no milk.
Thank you! I will share your story with her 😊
When I was nursing, my granny always told me not to eat any sweet potatoes. She said that for a nursing mother, sweet potatoes were the worst for the babies' colic and tummy situations. I don't know if that's true or not. I had to be so, careful on the diet when I was nursing my babies.
Skor was my favorite as a kid. I’d eat that in a day 😂💯
3 ingredient Oreo balls. No bake. Keep in fridge for 2 weeks ❤
Tipper, one year my daughter and I made a pan and we were going to put it in the fridge to cool so we could Crack it up, but like you were just saying we put it out in the cold..well 15 minutes later we returned to an empty cookie sheet! A fat and happy racoon scraped the sheet clean!! True story.
😂😂❤
Lol. He thought surely you made that just for him! A bet he thought well thanks lady!! 😃
😂😂😂
I just made a pan of Christmas crack. I just put Christmas sprinkles on mine.
I love your relationship with Matt. Makes me smile.
We love these. You know it's Matt approved when he does that bounce. You know there is a "Gosh that's good coming. Yall have a blessed night
That’s his “good food” dance 😊
I've seen that recipe several times but have never made it. I'm inspired now to make it! I love to make candy and cookies in the Christmas season. Tipper I'd like to ask you and your family to pray for my family tonight. My son's best friend, a young man who practically grew up in my house, is being taken off life support after a brief illness. The doctor said there's nothing more they can do. God bless y'all.
"You're honest as the day is long". What a nice compliment. The candy looks tempting! ....
Thank you so much! 😊
I think Matt is spot on. Does sound like a recipe that people used when imagination was necessary to make the most out of the least. 🥰 Thanks for sharing!
I don't comment often but I watch the vids on TH-cam. I enjoy them all. I feel like I know y'all. I look forward to all the vids.
The truth is in you, Matt. It's what comes out that's a whopper!😂
Lol
😊
Lol Matt we’remall on to you! Lol
That was nice of Matt to make supper. I hope Santa knows.
Look at Matt doing a happy bounce!😂😂😂. Looks so good Tipper.😊
I love Matt's little bounce when he was saying how much he liked the candy.
😊
The first time I had this candy, my grandmother made it for me when I was visiting her. I was in elementary school. Now I am 70 and I have her collection of handwritten recipes and clippings from the newspaper and magazines. Beside this recipe she wrote these words, "tasty little candies". Her handwriting was neat and even.
This would be a great use for saltines that have gone stale.
Taking a quick break with you guys tonight❤…my 16 year old Tatiana has pneumonia and I’ve been by her beside for three days now. If she’s not better tomorrow we are off the hospital.😢So 20 minutes with my fave people other than my children with a bowl of soup sounds about right❤❤
Sending prayers for quick, thorough healing for Tatiana.
Prayers for Tatiana
I'm so sorry Tatiana is sick!! Praying she will be better soon with no hospital visit.
Will be praying.
Praying.
Matt's little twinkle in his eye. ❤❤❤
😊
The candy looks delicious. How nice of Matt to make supper. Great video.
Hi, I just made this last week at work. I work in the bakery area of food service dept at our local college. We had like 20 cs of saltine crackers that needed used up. My recipe calls it saltine almond toffee but we know it as crack candy or Christmas crack. I made full sheetpans of this & they ate it like crazy. We used sliced almonds on ours, but when I ran out of the almonds...I just made the same recipe but w/o nuts. Regardless, they ate it up. My co-workers started calling me "Crack Lady"- they thought it was funny. Because every time they would see me at the stove in the kitchen part - I was making more of the brown sugar/butter mixture in a large, sturdy pot. They sure all enjoyed it- I had to remind them it's for the students.
Love that! 😊
My family loves this candy. We use matzoh instead of saltines for our Hanukkah celebration . We call it chocolate toffee matzoh crunch .We also celebrate Christmas . We are a blended family. I just love the holidays.
How great is it that you celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas. What rich heritage - and great food! 😊 Happy Holidays from Oklahoma.
You're such a beautiful family. I love the way you tease each other. It brings a smile to my face. Never had deer meat, but that stew looks soooo good. God bless you all.❤
Thank you 😊
You're welcome. God bless, and a good blessed night.
Christmas Crack, my favorite !!! This is so delicious it hardly lasts 2 days. Matt's Deer stew looks so good, and with the Corn Bread perfect pairing. You both are the perfect duo. Blessings always.
Thank you so much!!
I love this recipe. The saltiness and the sweetness together are so good.❤
Hi Tipper, as always, I love your videos!
I have always thought how inventive was the Christmas Crack. As far as I know, it is based on the the Matza Toffee recipe (exactly the same, but made with large Matza Crackers) invented in 1985 by Marcy Goldman. We have been making it ever since then, but about 20 years ago I noticed non-Jews making it with saltines.
It really is a simple and easy delight! We will invent just about anything with Matza since we eat it ONLY, to stand in for all things made from grain flour, for a week at Passover. More desserts than anything else have been invented with it. One dessert is very like your Apple Stack Cake - anything from fruit to frosting is layered. When frosting is used sprinkles are a general necessity. I can't wait to see you make your Orange Bread again! It is so nice to see Matt swoon! It is so satisfying to have ones family love what one cooks.
Have you tried the Salted Caramel Cracker Bites? YUM!
Personally, my favorite is the 1960s Chex Mix recipe.
Shalom!
I've not tried the cracker bites but I love the chex mix!! 😊 Thank you for sharing that information 😊
Yes, I still put food on the porch to cool, grandma had a breezeway between the house and garage to keep foods cool like cakes and pies and candy. Matt's stories@😂😂
I love the way your Christmas tree at church is decorated. The topper is especially beautiful ❤
Thank you 😊
That’s a beautiful tree! ❤️
Thank you!
Matts mighty handy to have around!
I love to watch you cook!♥️
I'm so glad 😊
Wow what a beautiful tree!!!! I've never seen anything like that topper!!!! Incredible!! I love it!
Thank you!
Keeps a marriage fresh
I’ve made that candy for years but we always used graham crackers instead of saltines.
Delicious either way!😋
I use graham crackers too it just makes it a little thicker. I haven't tried it with the cinnamon covered grahams though. But you could also use butterscotch chips or a mixture of both the chocolate chips and the butterscotch chips. Heck You could probably use peanut butter chips and chocolate chips. 😋
@@lorihouchin4732 Thanks for the peanut butter chips suggestion. I think I'll do a mixture of dark chocolate & peanut butter chips!
Yum Tipper. A co-worker made this years ago and it was so good. I'm gonna make this at Christmas . Thanks for reminding me and showing me. 👏 So sweet of Matt to make supper. Have a good evening. 🌻
Skor candy bars are my favorite!!! I'll have to try this.
I’ve always called it Christmas Bark. I stick mine in the fridge to cool. My grandsons love to help decorating it with Christmas sprinkles.
Looks so delicious Tipper. I never tried it. But I definitely will try making it! Have a beautiful week and God bless you and your family.♥️🌟💚
One of my favorite candies!!!! It’s sooo delicious 😋 As always I enjoy watching you Tipper🙌🙌🎉♥️
Thank you! 🥰
Our family loves Christmas Crack! Thanks for sharing.
❤ One of My Favorites ❤
😊
Yum! I love Christmas crack! How nice of Matt to make dinner! Looks delicious! God bless y’all! 😀♥️🙏
I think I had some of this once. It would be good with coconut, too.
It is good 😊
I remember those "Skor" bars. Yummy. Like a Heath Bar, or like English Toffee with the crushed walnuts.😋
Looks great. I think I can make that. You were taking it outside to cool reminded me as a kid we didn't have central heat and neither did my grandparents. Especially at Christmas the dining rooms were shutoff and usually cold and all the Christmas cakes, pies and candies were kept there out of the way, cool and easy access.
Necessity is the mother of invention.
I just made this for the first time ever. It’s in my cold NC garage right now cooling down and I can’t wait to try it! I love your videos and admire your family so much. Merry Christmas!!
Oh goodness, I love this stuff! I usually make 4-5 different kinds of this "crack" candy for Christmas! It's easy and I love being able to "play" with different ingredients! I've even put fresh raspberries on it before it was completely cool. I enjoy watching y'all! I'm in Blairsville and we still live "country!" Thanks for celebrating Appalachia! ❤
I love the raspberries idea!! Thanks for watching! 😊
Thanks for sharing this recipe. I love hearing Ira’s little sweet voice. ❤❤❤
Thank you Mattie Ann 😊
I loved this video. I never heard of this candy. I'm a diabetic and couldn't eat it. Give Woody, and Ira and Granny a hug from me. Have a wonderful week ❤️.
Hi everyone the soup looks good and so do the Christmas crack enjoy God bless you all
Thank you Ruth 😊
crushed candy canes are also good
Great tip!
I was going to say the same thing. Peppermint and dark chocolate goes so well together.

I DO remember Skor candy bars, it was my all time favorite, and I haven't seen them either in a long while. My granddaughter is allergic to pecans, but If I do it like you just did, we can all enjoy. Thanks for another easy and good recipe for our CHRISTmas gatherin.

I made this last year from one of your recipes. I don't remember if I got the recipe from one of your videos or not, but I know it came from you. Glad the recipe is in your cookbook.
Thanks Tipper!
In my home, we make this all the time. Always use salted butter. It is not salty at all. I love your channel.
I’m in Mid Wales in the U.K. & haven’t seen this before but I’m definitely going to give it a try, many thanks xxx
Hey Tipper, I've heard of that dessert but I ain't never had it before. I know I'd like it though. Matt did good too. Enjoy your supper! 😊
This looks wonderful .. I’ll have to try it .. I have everything to make it here at home so yes what a tasty treat that will be ❤❤
I do remember Skor candy. I've had this but haven't made it. I'm going to make some this year. Thanks for sharing.
Merry Christmas, Tipper, Matt, and family! You're so blessed that Matt knows how to cook. My husband hasn't a clue how to cook. When our children were small, and I was away for a day or two every now and again, they were always so excited because daddy would be in charge of the cooking. His best meals were Lunchables or cold cereal. 🤣 Now, are children are all grown and having babies of their own, but we often have a fun laugh about how good daddy was at "cookin' lunchables or cold cereal when mommy was out of town". Love to all of you!
Love that 😊 thank you
Never had this before but it sure looks good and very easy. I may need to make it for Christmas. Thanks Tipper.
I am so glad you posted this, every year I go to your chanel and try to find the original video for the recipe lol
😊
I have all my ingredients to make this yummy dessert...we love it too!👍💞🥰
It is so good! 😊
The deer stew and cornbread sounds delicious! I have an event coming up soon and need to make a few finger foods for and this will be one of them. Thanks for sharing another great recipe.
Yes, yes, the stuff is crack , indeed! 🤪😍👍🙄
Sooo delicious!
Oh, that looks so good!
The candy sounds very tasty! I can't remember if I've tried that years ago or not. That is what 2 ladies and myself did today, decorated the church and 2 trees. Yours looked very pretty! 😊🎄☃️🎁 Have a lovely evening. ❤
Thank you Misha 😊
Tipper, that looks really good! I'm gonna have to make it.
I may have to stop watching your videos until after Christmas 😳😄…I keep adding to my Christmas treats. I love this, although I’ve never added a layer of chocolate-definitely going to fix some this weekend while I’m doing pecan pralines -who knows what else. Anything with butter and brown sugar is a win ! Thanks for sharing.
My favorite aunt always made candy at Christmas. Some of those aren’t easy!!
That looks sooo good! My grandkids are sleeping over Fri so we can do our annual Christmas sugar cookie decorating so we'll be makingthis one too. Thanks again for sharing your recipes, traditions and beautiful family with us. 🥰❤
Very well-presented information. Everything is concise and to the point. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Our Mama went all in for baking at Christmas.
So many Awesome memories 😊
Another great cooking video Tipper and Matt thanks for sharing 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You're welcome! 😊
Love this, and I venue r Matt’s version.
My mom made dessert, when times were lean with 6 children
Cooked a flour tortillas in butter and added Grape jelly cooked in the skillet till crisp!
I used to make cracker candy often - mostly because my husband has the sweetest tooth of anybody I’ve ever seen in my life, and I always had these ingredients on hand. I’ve used butterscotch chips instead of chocolate, and I’ve also crushed up peppermints and sprinkled over the chocolate at Christmas. You could probably change up the toppings a dozen different ways.
Great tips!
I’m gonna wait a little closer to Christmas and my grandkids will help me make some. I saw it on your show awhile back and made it and we loved it. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤
I just love your family, you always put a smile on my face.
😊 That means a lot, thank you!
Prayers for everyone.🙏❤️🩷🎄
THE APPLES, LOOK LIKE THAT, THEY ARE DELICIOUS ❤🎉
Another great video. Your candy looks so good and sweet. Thank you for sharing that.❤
That candy is addictive!
OK . . . Seriously YUM! I'm doing a cookie charcutier board for Christmas and this will definitely be there! Thanks, Tipper!
Hope you enjoy
I have to make this! Thank you so much for sharing Tipper. You are an amazing person.
You’re so welcome! 😊 thank you
Can’t wait to try this! Great vidro
Matt and I would be good buddies because I like to tell tall stories too. I used to get people going at work…Lawdy, Lawdy 😂
😊
I have made this, but I still miss my grandma's coconut bon bons, my sentimental holiday sweet treat. She made them in yellow, pink and white .
Those sound yummy! 😊
I started making this Crack candy after I first saw you make it in a past video. I needed a quick dessert to take to a gathering and I had all the ingredients. It was a hit with friends and my family. I’ve used salted butter and it didn’t taste too salty. I think the salt in both the crackers and salted butter helped balance out the sweetness from the brown sugar and chocolate chips. It’s one of only two or three desserts I make that require few ingredients and is very easy to make. Thank you for sharing it with us!
My daughter come into and saw you make the cookies, I want some she said.. SURE WE WILL HAVE SOON. God Bless.💗&🙏🙏 for all. Jean
God bless you Tipper, someone from Michigan is sending me Christmas candy, I think it's chocolate covered pretzels, God bless you, Merry Christmas, God bless Granny Wilson
That is wonderful Norman 😊
Looks great. This past weekend I was traveling from West Tennessee to Greenville, SC and we went thru Murphy and I saw the sign for Brasstown! I looked at all the passing cars hoping to see you!!! Beautiful country in those mountains! Love your channel! Carole from West Tennessee
That looks delicious. I'll be making this soon and thank you for posting this.
How's Granny doing? Continued prayers!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it!! Granny is doing pretty good 😊
My dad used to tease us the same way with his stories.

Thank you!
Came into my TH-cam subscription list to watch my favs, and I could not find you! I had been unsubscribed! Never had that happen before. Fixed it, but gosh😮❤!
Oh goodness! Sorry about that and hope it doesn’t happen again. TH-cam can be glitchy sometimes 😊 thank you!
Tipper, your Christmas tree at church is so beautiful! 🎄✨️ The candy you made looks really delicious, and Matt's stew will be so good with his cornbread. 😋 Thanks for sharing your candy recipe. Sending blessings to you and all your family. 💗🙏
Thank you so much!
Hello, Tipper! i love cracker candy. my daughter-in-law made it before i did, that's where I learned it. it is fun to make and easier than some other types of candy. i like to put red/green sprinkles on mine, and nuts, too. Merry Christmas to you and your loveley family! God bless!
Merry Christmas to you, too!
