Some of the issues you have with food and availability may be because you are talking about Chattanooga . Nashville has a much larger variety. Thai food has been popular here since the 80s and Mexican of various levels of authenticity abound. We are weakest on Chinese but a gem or two exist.

My niece is a former Californian who lived in Las Vegas after she left the army. Very liberal politically, considers herself a Democrat activist. I don't know what she was thinking moving to Chattanooga a few years ago, but she did because a good friend lived there. She has come to hate it and the South. All she does is gripe about Republicans and conservatives and wants to return to Vegas or California, but she bought a house and feels it wouldn't be smart to sell so soon after buying.

@@morganhill2586 Oh it gets better! She was telling me that whenever someone comments on her accent and asks where she's from she'll bristle and say "I'm from California and I speak normally. You have an accent".😳 I told her it's no wonder she can't make friends there talking to people like that. I recently moved to Florida and she told me I was moving to a fascist state that hates women, gays and trans. She said she'd never visit because of that and the governor. I was like "OK". We don't communicate anymore. 😑

I’m from NJ and moved to Chattanooga 12 years ago. It’s also frustrating for me dealing with the ignorance and intolerance. I have a great friend group here and wouldn’t think about leaving but it is a little more “third-world” than I would like, with all the guns and superstitions.
