    This company sounds very useful. I really like the fact that they cover books that may not actually be in the house at the time of loss. Im definitely going to keep this company in mind. Great video!

    I've had this insurance for around 10 years. I collected once for a broken statue and it was very easy. I also just sent 22 books to CGC for crossover grading (will make a video when they come back)and save a few hundred dollars since i didn't have to buy USPS insurance. As long as you send priority with a signature, this insurance covers comics in the mail.

    How have they been to deal with since you signed up? I just found this video and it’s something I’ve been worried about for a while now. I probably have 10,000 comics, and even if they were all $2.00, that’s a huge amount to try and buy back after a loss. Great video!

    Great Video Regie, gave me lots to think about. I've googled and found a few companies here in the UK, so will give them a more thorough investigation. I had thought briefly about insurance for the 1st time when I got X-Men #1 about 3 weeks ago, so this video is well timed. I might not have as many major keys in as high a grade as you (I had 6 books on your wall until you took Hulk 340 down) but what I do have is an almost complete run of Uncanny X-Men that i've collected over the last 25 years (all volumes - only missing around 50 books now) and if I lost that, I would be actually devastated. That's just my X-Men, I have thousands of other ones.
    Do you use any apps or computer software to catalog your collection? Would love to see you do a video on that if you do.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good stuff brother. I'm glad you are at least thinking about it. That X-Men 1 should be protected. Same for that run of X-Men. That's something to be proud of my friend. I wish that I had that run. Congrats.
      At one point I had all of my books in a spreadsheet but somehow that file was erased. Right now I'm using the GoCollect.com website to inventory my books. I've only done my slabs and a few high value raw books so far. It's a painful process.
      There are a few apps out there that seem pretty cool. They can scan the barcode and automatically load the books details to your profile. The problem is that if you're buying older books they don't have bar codes. GoCollect allows you to take photos of your books like the app but it doesn't have a barcode reader. It does however connect to the CGC database so it loads your books details once you key in the CGC ID number. It also provide you with a report that shows your collections cost versus the real time value. I've found that pretty helpful.

      Thanks for the details Regie, i'll check that one out and see what it's like

    Very good video and made me think about insurance for my collection again. I keep my most valuable books in a heavy duty safe at home in California. Would the insurance company take that into consideration in determining my premium? Besides your insurance policy where and how do you store your most valuable books aside from your display wall? How did you determine the total value of your entire collection? Did you take a complete inventory of your collection? That seems like a very laborous task if you have a huge collection.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Inventory is such a painful process. I took a week at the end of 2017 to catalogue everything in Excel. At some point in the last 9 months the file was erased. To say that it hurt is an understatement. At present, I'm using the GoCollect website to catalogue my slabs. This only took me an hour to key everything in. GoCollect is connected to CGC so once you drop in the number the other details are pulled into the system (e.g., SS, grade, page color). It's pretty handy. The vast majority of my value is contained in my slabs so once I knew the current value--provided by GoCollect--I guesstimate the rest of the collection. I personally overestimated the value to make sure that I had enough coverage. One I get the heart to inventory the raw books I'll adjust the policy either up or down.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have several BCW CGC boxes with slabs. I also have several plastic BCW bins that I keep other high value books in. This includes books to be slabbed and valuable books that will remain raw for one reason or another. I hope this helps.

    Just found this video and great to know it will cover books while mailed to CGC for grading. Does it cover the market value of the book if CGC damages it? Or just while in transit with Post office?

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It covers the collection/books in storage, in your possession and while in transit. CGC’s insurance would more than likely cover the book if damaged in their possession and they use the same company for insurance. Put another way, one claim would be sufficient.

    So I have most of my books in a storage unit since I don’t have enough space my wife gives me lol here in the house , this insurance would cover a storage location like spare space ? I have an insurance by the storage unit but it’s pretty expensive for the max cover of 10,000

    Just curious: Did you really only value your collection at $10,000? That would probably be why you're only on the hook for $69.70 a year. Remember, your X-Men 1 alone is probably a $5,000 or more book so I just wanted to check if that was what you valued your whole collection at or were you just giving an example for the sake of the video?

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a sample for the video. I personally am not a fan of talking what I pay for things. It's not my style. :-) I just wanted to illustrate for people that it's not cost prohibitive to get a policy.

    Did you get an appraisal for your collection? Did they require one?

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used GoCollect to catalog the slabs within my collection. GoCollect generates a value report based upon current FMV. I then guestimated the value of my raw books to arrive at a final value that was used for insurance. I actually used a grossed up number to cover myself. I talk about some of it in this video: th-cam.com/video/tGs17pm_37g/w-d-xo.html
