When I tried artifice with my friends I didn't knew what those giant robots were so we just ignores them and went in the building then when we got out one of them just awaken and started blasting missiles at us. It was terrifying

I feel like a much better way of balancing the old bird would be to make its spotlight much more important. Like have it shine much farther down in a much more condensed beam and make it so it can only spot you if you walk into its light. That way there's fair and obvious counterplay, and it doesn't feel like you just lose if there's too many of them around to get by.
Already did that to giants. Also, birds have to be aggressive, bc they have to fight the monsters. The best nerf would probably be making it's grab attack non lethal. Or slightly decreasing the missile damage.
I mean they can't see you when their Spotlight isn't on, So it's already pretty well balanced imo, It's just that the RANGE of that Spotlight is ridiculously far lmao, I've had one spot me from like 50 meters way "Or some big distance like that"
Feel like a bit more variety would be good; some old birds without legs so they act as a bigger turret, some old birds that cannot fire rockets due to jam and resort to flamethrowers instead, some acting like in this video. So far though all the old birds spawn rate and lethality seems absurdly high.
It's still beta so they would get nerfed. You don't have to worry about that. After an update they won't be much troublesome. But I wish forest giants remain killable.
Different varieties is cool for sure, But they SHOULD remain as op and deadly as they are now, They're the Top-Dog on the food-chain atm, And that should stay lol. If I were to change just a single thing about them, I'd make it so they are killable, But only by OTHER Old Bird missiles, You can get them to kill one another kind of thing xD
Here’s my theory for what the old bird was made for: countering coilheads. In the bestiary entry for the coilhead, it’s stated that bright light and loud sound can disable them, which explains why the old birds have a 100,000 lumen searchlight and the “sound cannon” on its torso. Along with that, coilheads are noted as being radioactive, and old birds will activate if the apparatus is pulled, which causes a radiation spike
Zeekerss is gifted, man. He comes out with two new enemies and three (really two) maps and it all feels completely authentic compared to the hundreds of mods. The old bird is better than anyone I play with could have hoped for in an update. I'm also in favor of the robot being broken. Giants are pretty easily killable now with stun grenade + knife. The punishment for this is the robot lol
I just can't wait for when the Old Bird's themselves will be killable, Maybe they can drop an Apparatus each time you kill one y'know? Similar to how killing a Nutcracker now is a guaranteed 45 +30 per shell, An Old Bird would be a guaranteed 80 :P Zeekerss is awesome though for sure, Dude's got an awesome mind-set for making Games.

Ngl, I kinda think that the Old Bird should be vulnerable to Zap Guns/Radar Boosters, mostly because it's a robot, so you should be able to fry its circuitry. Edit: Old Birds can be stunned by radar boosters for 3 seconds (thanks wiki for that one). As for the Zap Gun, I figured it could like cause it to restart or something. Like, not really downright "killing it" but just stunning it for longer than the radar booster.
It is a war robot. It's going to be hardened, and that's not exactly hard to do against something like a zap gun. A body made of metal means it is even more likely that electrical currents will just flow harmlessly through it, after all.
I just feel like the Zap Gun needs an overhaul, If it stuns the person using it, The thing SHOULD be way stronger then it is now, It should work against everything, And it should stun those things for as long as you have it active. Right now the Zap Gun sucks ass and is NEVER worth buying lol...
Just a few things to add: You can use the zap-gun to stun it, but you have to be literally below its chest screen for it to work. This enemy has the highest difficulty with the zap-gun meaning that its harder to keep the beam stable Similar to forest keeper's, when grabbed the only thing that can save you is that someone from the ship warps you. This, however, breaks the Old Bird leaving it on the flamethrower kill animation.

I absolutely love this thing, even in its current state. I think constructive criticism is always a good thing but seeing people complain and bitch at Zeekers makes my blood boil. Let the dude cook, I’ve gotten so much entertainment from the vanilla game alone that i trust his vision and his talent, and at the end of the day it’s an indie game, chastising the developer for implementing imperfect features speaks only to your level of entitlement and lack of patience. Criticism comes from ppl who love and care about the project, complaining and bitching is for children who didn’t get what they wanted

Not sure if you didn't notice or not, But they home in on you while you're holding the Apparatus, Essentially making it a giant Red Dot for them to attack, Also they have scanners to a degree while far away enough from the Player, They will then fly to the EXACT spot the Player was last located from how far away they were. So you could have 1 person bait them all super far away lol, Not sure if that matters for the App of course, Since they seem to take priority to targeting that specifically. I REALLY love this new Entity in the Game, Definitely my favorite one now for sure lol.
Earlier today I was landing on Embrion and there was already 3 or 4 activated. It seems to just choose a completely random time in the day. The lastest I've seen one activate however is about 6:30pm.

I don't think it needs to be nerfed directly. In itself it's pretty easy to avoid them. Maybe just cap their max spawns at 3-4 so other monsters still get a chance to spawn and not be completely replaced.

Its more about how to play AGAINST Old Bird. Braken? - turn behind sometimes and dont look for long. Coilhead? - keep looking at him. Girl? - dont look at her and dont walk to her. Old Bird? - nothing, its instantly attaking you and kill you. maybe staying still when its close? maybe you need to scream at it like you already die? we dont know
I mean old bird attacks everything and they take a really large spawn number meaning that instead of getting something like 2 giants and 3 dogs you get 1 old bird and 1 soon to be dead giant
Side Note: idk if you mentioned this but they will torch forest giants with their flamethrower to kill them, setting them alight and activating them into a panic.
I went to Umbrian or whatever the moon was named while it was eclipsed and there were hundreds of mechs and it was hilarious. There were like 5000 missiles firing at each of us and I somehow managed to make it to the facility only to die to a bracken 3 seconds later
I like the variety and I think v50 looks great! However this enemy.. this is the one thing I just think doesnt fit. Like it seems unfair, unbalanced, and chaotic. Hopefully during play I'm wrong but I'd rather just not have to deal with that possibility. Also I hope way more scraps get added in.
I feel like it is easier to survive the old bird than it is to survive a tree giant. As long as you have some cover you can run back to your ship and you can break line of sight for long enough. Tree giant doesn't really leave you alone.
their activation time should be directly linked with outdoor spawn attempts, which on hard moons like artifice and embreon starts at 1pm. medium moons 3pm so i assume the earliest you can get a old bird on adamance /offense is 3pm. easy moons 5pm, which would be experimentation. pulling app could change these times earlier. only pull app after times listed above. this is based on how the game worked before this update i havnt looked into the code or anything to check this. heck i dont even know if embreon and artifice are hard moons. but they are S+(+) difficulty so they should be.take it with a grain of salt.
the zap gun can be used on them its just.. you really shouldn't you have to be right below them (between their feet) for it to work, and you won't hold the charge to long as it's a pain to keep the zap on them for long
When I had to run to my ship cuz my friends voted for it to leave early ( 7:54 pm ) I was sprinting and dodging like I was the mc. My plot armor unfortunately turned off right when I was at the ship

Offense has a lot of cover, the support beams for the pipes, and the entire map besides around the ship. Just lead it there, lose LOS, then follow the pipe back.
also, I cannot tell if old birds can only see what is in their light cone or if they have a normal fov. and do they see you when they are flying, or only if directly above you? And can they hear you?
I think its so dosturbing how they make like a baby crying noise i mean first time i got attacked by one and heard the crying in my brains i went to full on middle aged dad mode and tried to find a beer bottle to smack it with🤷♂️
My friend and I had one spawn on Offense, I pulled the apparatus really early, and the old bird did not activate for the whole day. We waited until the ship automatically takes off too.

So you're telling me there is a 2.37% chance of an old bird spawning on offense, and yet as soon as I load into offense for the first time after the patch it's literally standing outside the ship.

NGL tho this thing should have some variety, let every old bird do different things and not have a fucking fundestroyer5000 or something
Theyre fine on artifice, theres 2 routes to ship, many safe spaces in the warehouses and its a late game moon meaning it wont be long until you can get jetpacks and dodge them almost entirely
A bit of a letdown *in my opinion* . Seems exciting one trick pony gimming at first, then as the game goes it becomes clear it is more oppresive and uncounterable than an actual entity we could play and interact around. Especially with the apparatus gimmick where it's designed to catch players off guard once and then force them to not interact with the apparatus at all, one-note and just plain boring. The mechanical Locker enemy mod is more intuitive and interactive than this, what a shame. Or if you want an apple to apple comparison, the Old Bird is comparable to the Siren Head mod, just a spectacle more than a gameplay enhancer.
I’ve also seen multiple complaints about it killing everything thus making maps have less outside enemy diversity. I think some major AI changes to the old bird are needed before the full release of v50
@@pyritepanx As of right now if you have a flashbang it is pretty easy to get away from, and because of this it can largely be an ally if it kills dogs and giants.
Other than the moons where old birds have a high spawn chance it could be interesting to intentionally pull the apparatus to kill outside enemies that are more difficult to deal with such as giants since it seems that old birds are not as quick as them especially with turning. Of course this only works if pulling apparatus does activate them on any moon

Honestly, I'd much rather deal with an Old Bird or two than Eyeless Dogs or Forest Keepers.

It is a cool design for sure. But having more than one spawn just ends your run instantly
Zeekerss has very unique sound design. All of the the sounds feel like they were made with an old machine, in a sense

I've seen old birds activate as soon as 11 PM on Artifice. Hope this makes you even more terrified when facing these things :)

The apparatus behavior does happen on artifice if you get the factory interior I’ve experienced it

I was playing on artifice with a few friends, and they activated at about 1130 or 1200, havent seen it happen more than that one time however
also, I cannot tell if old birds can only see what is in their light cone or if they have a normal fov. and do they see you when they are flying, or only if directly above you? And can they hear you?
I think its so dosturbing how they make like a baby crying noise i mean first time i got attacked by one and heard the crying in my brains i went to full on middle aged dad mode and tried to find a beer bottle to smack it with🤷♂️

I got lucky playing today when an old bird spawned. It never activated at all. I stayed on the moon waiting for it but it never did
Once i was in artifice eclipsed and an old bird was already activated
It was 8am-9am
My friend and I had one spawn on Offense, I pulled the apparatus really early, and the old bird did not activate for the whole day. We waited until the ship automatically takes off too.
I’ve had a moment where we landed on the moon and they were already moving but that’s only happened once so maybe it was a bug
I hope the radar booster can't be destroyed. When the patch come out.

Theres no activating time, they just activate when they would have spawned during the day.

Abbreviating line of sight really just feels like a stupid decision that will leave some people googling or asking in the comments.
It's especially pointless because LOS and line of sight both have 3 syllables, so you don't save any time abbreviating it verbally.

So you're telling me there is a 2.37% chance of an old bird spawning on offense, and yet as soon as I load into offense for the first time after the patch it's literally standing outside the ship.

Ah I see, so the enemy activates at a random time, has horrible spawn rate on the new planets and is impossible to avoid unless you've got thousands of flashbangs, what an awesome design! NGL tho this thing should have some variety, let every old bird do different things and not have a fucking fundestroyer5000 or something
Theyre fine on artifice, theres 2 routes to ship, many safe spaces in the warehouses and its a late game moon meaning it wont be long until you can get jetpacks and dodge them almost entirely

A bit of a letdown *in my opinion* . Seems exciting one trick pony gimming at first, then as the game goes it becomes clear it is more oppresive and uncounterable than an actual entity we could play and interact around. Especially with the apparatus gimmick where it's designed to catch players off guard once and then force them to not interact with the apparatus at all, one-note and just plain boring. The mechanical Locker enemy mod is more intuitive and interactive than this, what a shame. Or if you want an apple to apple comparison, the Old Bird is comparable to the Siren Head mod, just a spectacle more than a gameplay enhancer.

I’ve also seen multiple complaints about it killing everything thus making maps have less outside enemy diversity. I think some major AI changes to the old bird are needed before the full release of v50
@@pyritepanx As of right now if you have a flashbang it is pretty easy to get away from, and because of this it can largely be an ally if it kills dogs and giants.
Other than the moons where old birds have a high spawn chance it could be interesting to intentionally pull the apparatus to kill outside enemies that are more difficult to deal with such as giants since it seems that old birds are not as quick as them especially with turning. Of course this only works if pulling apparatus does activate them on any moon
