@@TheActualTed the gpu is not the problem. Its the cpu which has to process the informations send to it by the gpu. And thats additional to the fact that gw2 uses one thread primarly as main thread. That means there is to much for the cpu to process in general. At least thats what one of anets programmers said. He said that they try to get some of the things that are processed on the main thread of the cpu to other threads but that would be very difficult, because you have to manage it in a way that the main thread isnt corresponding with the other threads. In other words they need to tell the main thread to stop processing some specific data right at the moment when another threat shall do the work. And based on his opinion that is a huge challenge for them. But since shaders and environment use primarly the gpu and their data sent to the cpu isnt very big it shouldnt impact you fps siginificant. As i said for me even lowering shaders caused less fps which is the complete opposite to what youve said. Cant tell you why that is but i tested it in different scenarios: World bosses, fractals, dungeons, meta events. And yeah for sure in know that the mod isnt perfect and that they need to do sth that works for everyone but common. They are now more then 4 years into trying to improve the games quality and havnt achieved anything yet. Even much smaller games like aion were able to improve their games quality and aion is older then gw2. Aion for now looks better then gw2 and runs on more fps. You cant tell me anet programmers are that trash. This company should have a lot of money by running a huge game like gw2 if you compare it to Aion for example but they cant afford good programmers like aion? Thats clearly a joke. On top lets talk about their inability to improve simple things like postprocessing. I personally use gw2hook and i cant play without it cos the game looks pretty ugly without. Anet knows this is going on but they arent able to improve little things like this themselves? Dont tell me this company is any good at optimizing their game. I am currently even thinking about switching back to wow because blizzard can handle performance. The main part of gw2 is large group events and the living world. Instances are way better at wow. And for now i can only play instances in gw2 cos world bosses cause me to play at 40 fps which is a nightmare and in no way enjoyable. If i am forced to play instances in both games then i play the real instances which can only be found in wow.
I am building a PC for GW2. My goal is to play on max settings at 1080p. I'm using Ryzen 7 1800x, 16 GB of ram. My question is what GPU do you recommend. I want an RX series to use AMD freesync.
I followed every step of your ReShade guide but the game game doesn't open after I click on the launcher's start button. It runs on second plane and never actually opens. I had this same problem with the old overwolf's sweetFX and I tried everything to fix that (with no success). I use Windows 10 and my drivers are all up to date, by the way.
I know... I tried everything I could think of, but nothing works. SweetFX worked nice when I had windows 8.1, but after I upgraded to 10 it just doen't open the game anymore. It is sad because I really liked the way the game looks with the presets ):
You will need to setup textures on medium or even lower because of your RAM limitations. You will need to have some RAM to be free for use by Intel HD card. Other than that, if you set most of the things to minimum, you will probably be able to run the game in core Tyria, but it wont be smooth and expansion areas are probably out of the question. It is possible to play like that, but I personally would recommend waiting till you have better processor and more RAM, video card would help as well. Saying that as someone who played raids for more than year using B940 pentium laptop with 3gb RAM. I did had dedicated video card though, but even with that I would not recommend anyone to play like that, it handicaps your experience a lot.
Ethuil UI Well I just fixed it :D !!!! I was getting 2-6fps and now I'm getting 40! On low settings. What i did was , i was using the crappy win 10 , which uses a lot of memory , so i went to desktop , right click on Computer > properties > Advanced system settings > settings > then choose " Adjust for best performance " . .this will stop all animation and useless stuff running on win 10 and will use less ram and processor , this works!!! And I'm not kidding i was so sad that i downloaded and i wont be able to play but this saved me !! :D
it depends on ur laptop. but on some laptops thermal throtteling is also a issue. you can lesser this by undervolting the cpu and gpu. *i think it works best with ULV sets. atleast this helped me to go from 18 to 40 fps yoga 2 non laptopts throttle quite hard... for desktops or non ulv thermal throtteling isnt a real issue most of the time.
gw2 crashes on login screen after installing ReShade and MasterEffect, I've done everything as guide says. When was the last time you installed it? It's possible it isnt working after April 2016 patch
Its possible that location will be different on some older systems. In general you should have 3 diferent places with GW2 files - instalation, screens and this temp folder what you wanna delete. Just use windows search.
Its bit different in every version of system but simillar. Open any folder and in menu open properities and there in secont tab are numerous checkboxes so just flip that named show hidden files and folders. Dont know exactly how it is in english dont have eng win atm but I will try find some quick way
does the reshade tool used here works in windows 10? i used to have one when i had windows 7 but when it upgraded to 10 it no longer works :C. ps: also, how do i defragmentate the gw2 folder? i have a laptop.
I have win10 and and never had a problem with it. But when I changed from W7 to W10 I used SweetFX - basicly older variant of reshade and it stopped working with 32 bit version so I had to find reshade and start using 64 bit one try that if you using 32. Default windows defrag utility can do it only for whole disk not only one folder for folder only you have to download some advance defraging program but you can simply defrag whole disk with windows one it just take quite a lot of time.
Asura master race! How much FPS are you getting with your setting when there's a lot of people around? I'm on i5-4690k and GTX 1070. I'm considering an i7 upgrade and I'm looking for a baseline on how much improvements I could squeeze out. Also, I'm playing on 1440p.
Is it possible to have a SEA server in GW2? If then, when will it be? Cause I am in the Philippines and the ave. ping usually gets 400-500. The worst part is it always drops the FPS to 1-10.
I don't think there is any, you should check some guides how to reduce your ping or use some of those ping lowering services. It won't make miracles but from what I heard ppl prom SEA region plays usually around 200. FPS has no relation to internet connection
that's really helpful. Cheers. The only issue I have is with character rendering. When doing meta's how can you tell how many people are in your area so you know if doing the meta is worthwhile or not?
I know this comment is really old but I'll drop this incase someone reads this looking for answers in the future. Personally I turn on "Show all players names" that way I can tell if the meta has enough people or not.

For AMD GPUs look into switching to "Compute" mode. My GPU usage in the winkey+G performance tab went from about 30% to triple in usage and of course a good boost in FPS. System has an intel I7 4790k and AMD R9 380X. Also the yearly AMD drivers update came out recently and it boosted my performance even more. I am seeing average of about 80FPS and as high as 120fps.
@@duchaneaux I play for hours on end with no problems. The FPS does go down when I am surrounded by other players in town and in the middle of a boss fight it still better than before I switched to Compute mode.
Pretty good guide, although I wouldn’t recommend turning off post processing if you’re playing through PoF areas. The visual style relies heavily on post processing and you’ll miss out on a lot of atmosphere. Looks like a different game with it on.
It graphical overlay what adds effects into game, correct gama, sharpness, ect. You have to download it, put it into gw2 folder and that download and put there also preset. Preset is basicly file with predefined settings and they can look very diferent so you have to pick one what match your taste. Im not, thats why im asking :D I used to use alot of these lines in steam games, so when I was waching an idea showed up " Oh look! why can't we -forcepreload?" But idk if you really can preload all gw2 info
I can't explain it but when I stream using the Nvidia encoder instead of the cpu I get 15-20 fps more in GW2 while streaming than not streaming. I have outdated gtx 780's in SLI
Great video man! since i picked up Gw2 again after a break, I really needed to redo my settings. Sadly, I cant make your shader work. I had reshade installed before and just replaced the shaders and the textures, didn't work, then i deleted reshade completely and did what you said, pull the uncomprimized zip into, either the bin or the game directory and unzipped, but neither worked. I even used that Unlocker, but it turns out to do nothing. Now im sitting here, waiting for GW2 to download because I accidently deleted my .dat file and wonder if I ever gonna be able to make your shader work! Not the peak of my days.

I gotta say I hate seeing the standard FPS below 100. GW2, unlike wow, promotes movement and action but the optimization is so shite it won't run over 90 FPS even on godlike PC. I mean I can run wow retail above 120 FPS on full details while I barely get 40 on mid details. The CPU optimization is trash. And I hate to see it on such a fast paced game with combat this good.

I think any of the new GPUs will be enough even lower editions. I the past I've played on ultra with Radeon HD 6970:-)
Thank you so much, I will look into that. Unfortunately with the crypto craze it's hard to get a gpu for a decent price.
Yea tell me about that :-D
Do you think the MSI RX 560 aero itx 4G oc will get the job done for max settings on 1080p? I can get one for $150.
Should be just fine:-)
I followed every step of your ReShade guide but the game game doesn't open after I click on the launcher's start button. It runs on second plane and never actually opens. I had this same problem with the old overwolf's sweetFX and I tried everything to fix that (with no success). I use Windows 10 and my drivers are all up to date, by the way.
Afaik overwolf dont work with those overlays. Did you used dll file for 32/64 bit version?
Yes, I use the 64bit version. But I think this is some kind of permission problem with windows 10
Its hard to say when it dont show any errror.
I know... I tried everything I could think of, but nothing works. SweetFX worked nice when I had windows 8.1, but after I upgraded to 10 it just doen't open the game anymore. It is sad because I really liked the way the game looks with the presets ):
When I migrated to win10 32 bit version stopped worked for me.
This has really helped, thank you SO much!

i have 4GB Ram , Intel HD 4000(2GB) , i3 2.4ghz processor . and it lags a lot , do u think it will work for me?
I will help a bit for sure but your pc is quite weak especially that integrated GPU will hold you back.
Tekkit's Workshop oooh that's sad! :(
You will need to setup textures on medium or even lower because of your RAM limitations.

I reinstall it when I tested it for this video and worked fine.
+Tekkit's Workshop I figured since Ive just reinstalled Win10 I was missing some directx lib, everything is working fine now, thanks
Help me i tried doing tip number #2 but no file like that exists on my computer. Please i just want a higher frame rate
Its possible that location will be different on some older systems. In general you should have 3 diferent places with GW2 files - instalation, screens and this temp folder what you wanna delete. Just use windows search.
Also that folder is hidden by default you have to open folder settings and unhide hidden and system folders.
+Tekkit's Workshop where do I find the settings
Its bit different in every version of system but simillar. Open any folder and in menu open properities and there in secont tab are numerous checkboxes so just flip that named show hidden files and folders. Dont know exactly how it is in english dont have eng win atm but I will try find some quick way
here is cool simple guide how to do it: www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/show-hidden-files-and-folders-in-windows-vista/
does the reshade tool used here works in windows 10? i used to have one when i had windows 7 but when it upgraded to 10 it no longer works :C. ps: also, how do i defragmentate the gw2 folder? i have a laptop.
+Tekkit's Workshop Thank you :) I will try that. by the way, excellent video.
thx:-)
Hi Tekkit, do you have a new reshade package anywere? Or doesn`t it matter that the reshade version in you pack is a bit older? Thanks!
I still use this one, no need to upgrade:-)
Great thank you for the fast info!
Hi Tekkit! How do I use the reshade package? Do I extract the zip file in the gw2 folder?
It's very old version here, use the one from my Crystal Clear reshade tutorial:-)
@@TekkitsWorkshop Alrighty, ty for you super fast answer :D
Is it normal that after I changed the parameter on maploadinfo it show me a lot of stuff when changing maps?
Yep, that's the purpose of that command, faster loading is unintentional side effect:-P
Asura master race! How much FPS are you getting with your setting when there's a lot of people around? I'm on i5-4690k and GTX 1070. I'm considering an i7 upgrade and I'm looking for a baseline on how much improvements I could squeeze out. Also, I'm playing on 1440p.
I may differ from map to map due to different optimisation but in average in let's say 50 man zerg around 40 fps
Really useful info, thanks!
that's really helpful. Cheers. The only issue I have is with character rendering. When doing meta's how can you tell how many people are in your area so you know if doing the meta is worthwhile or not?
also, as seen below, when I use the reshade .exe file I'm getting errors in 1, 2, 3 and 4 then reshader closes
You have to check LFG, never look in the map you get into by porting because game will never put you to the mas what is close to full

how do you activate light adaption?
It should be tied to newer GPUs

@@TekkitsWorkshop If it's like me there's an error in 1, 2, 3, 4 of 8 then the window closes. Not sure of what that is yet but saw this comment before I started hacking at the ini data to find out why.
I am seeing average of about 80FPS and as high as 120fps.
doesn't your vram usage increase to the point of making the game perform worse though?
@@duchaneaux I play for hours on end with no problems. The FPS does go down when I am surrounded by other players in town and in the middle of a boss fight it still better than before I switched to Compute mode.

Pretty good guide, although I wouldn’t recommend turning off post processing if you’re playing through PoF areas. The visual style relies heavily on post processing and you’ll miss out on a lot of atmosphere. Looks like a different game with it on.
Yep but it's also quite heavy on fps:-)
hello. what is reshade again sir? do i have to download it? thanks
It graphical overlay what adds effects into game, correct gama, sharpness, ect. You have to download it, put it into gw2 folder and that download and put there also preset. Preset is basicly file with predefined settings and they can look very diferent so you have to pick one what match your taste.
WP did some time ago great in depth video about that: th-cam.com/video/a5i5-2X4wMA/w-d-xo.html Its bit outdated and his own preset is bit effect overkill its still great guide.

But don't reshades drop FPS? I've tried to use one but suffered a 20FPS drop.

Press Windows Key + R (or Run in the start menu) and type in %appdata%.
Wow nice %appdata% was helpful
What about using -forcepreload
never heard of that are you sure its valid gw2 argument?
Im not, thats why im asking :D I used to use alot of these lines in steam games, so when I was waching an idea showed up " Oh look! why can't we -forcepreload?" But idk if you really can preload all gw2 info
it probably wont work but lets try:-D
Use sweetfx 2.0 all u do is replace the fx bin fold with with gw2 one . Then install the fx done
sweetfx is basicly same as ReShade. Difference is basicly only in effects what we usualy dont use anyway.
that was one catchy opening lol

I gotta say I hate seeing the standard FPS below 100. GW2, unlike wow, promotes movement and action but the optimization is so shite it won't run over 90 FPS even on godlike PC. I mean I can run wow retail above 120 FPS on full details while I barely get 40 on mid details. The CPU optimization is trash. And I hate to see it on such a fast paced game with combat this good.

The sad thing is, 7 years ago this video was posted and today it still applies to the game.
