This was composed by Pankaj Mallick - Hemanta sang beautifully! Tagore wrote this as a poem and Pankaj Mallick made it as a song great song!!

সাদা কালো ছবিকে ক্যামেরাম্যান একেবারে শিল্পের পর্যায়ে নিয়ে গেছেন।
এই ছবির এই দৃশ্যটি আমার সবচেয়ে বেশি পছন্দের। নেপথ্যে আমার প্রিয়তম শিল্পী হেমন্ত মুখোপাধ্যায়ের গান দৃশ্যটিকে আরো প্রাণবন্ত করে তুলেছে। গানটির রচয়িতা আমাদের একান্ত আপন রবীন্দ্রনাথ। পঙ্কজ কুমার মল্লিক কবির অনুমতি নিয়ে প্রথম সুরারোপ করেছিলেন শেষ খেয়া কবিতাটির।
আর হবে না কোনোদিন
দয়া করে গীতিকারের নামটা নির্ভুল করুন। গানটির রচয়িতা কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর, মুকুল দত্ত নয়।

By the mid 50's In Bengal, Hemanta Mukherji as singer composer was also popular as one of the foremost exponents of Rabindrasangeet.
In a ceremony organised by him to honour Debabrata Biswas in Calcutta in March, 1980, Debabrata Biswas unhesitatingly mentioned Hemanta as the second pioneer to popularise Rabindrasangeet, after the legendary Pankaj Kr Mallick.
It was Pankaj Kr Mullick who first composed and sang this song 'Diner sheshe ghumer deshe' (Mukti- 1937). In the 1950s, Hemanta besides composing and singing for several Bengali and Hindi films, Rabindra sangeets and non-film songs, also sang songs composed by noted music directors like Nachiketa Ghosh and Salil Chowdhury, and some of the notable films Hemanta himself composed music for during this period include Harano Sur, Neel Akasher Neechey, Swaralipi, Deep Jwele Jaye, Kuhak, Dui Bhai, and Saptapadi in Bengali, and ,Jagriti and Ek Hi Raasta in Hindi.
As for his reputation in the West, Hemanta by responding to famous Hollywood film director Conrad Rooks and scoring the music of Conrad's film Siddhartha and also singing in that film, he made himself as the first ever Indian singer to play back in Hollywood. Notably, the US Govt. honoured Hemanta by giving him the citizenship of Baltimore city in Maryland State, thus him being also the first ever composer- singer of India to get USA citizenship.

For your information, this song had been put to tune by Pankaj Mallick and not Hemanta Mukherjee. This is the only Rabindra Sangeet which has not been set to tune by Kobiguru himself and more importantly this was done during his lifetime and with his approval.
