    You are so close to my relatives..
    Whitewater is a great area as well as Clifton and grand junction. ..
    I should have spent more time there.

      Right about 4:30 there was a layered bit in olivine shades..the reddish jasper bits..
      The fruita area has lots of agatized wood. I have a bit from there..
      Thanks for sharing.

      @@rebeccaofsunnybrookefarm8469 yes there is a nice verity of Agatized Wood there. I’ve found white Agatized Wood, black and red Agatized Wood in the area. South of Grand Junction I found a limb cast with red bark and black Agatized Wood.

    You definitely aren't going to run out of material for the tumbler! Sucks you had to edit out your sasquatch encounter, that was my favorite part! ;)

    Hey. I see the rocks are all well rounded. Was that a river bed a time point and how is the temp there?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, at some point in time it was part of a river in another time era. It’s currently right off the Colorado River. Temps at that time were decent like the mid 80’s dry heat.

    Ive always heard of the red "agate" in with the common opal refferred to as fire opal or fire agate.

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting, it definitely looks like Fire. I will actually post a video making a free form Cabochon out of some of this material I collected from this video.

    Love all the info in your videos. Just wondering if you can find sapphire in this location?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Jeff-bi7jn I do not believe so. I know there is a dealer in GJ that sells Colorado sapphire in matrix. But for finding your own I’d bet you would have to research it. Possibly found in the mountains in central part of the state.

    I'd love to know the coordinates, as I hike all around here frequently, live very near by. I've found quite a few, though I never know if it's agate, common opal, or even Petrified wood. I also see the chocolate opal type stuff, but I thought it was chalcedony. How do you tell the difference?

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@sandyo5453 so the location is on the back side of opal hill passed the cattle guard on state owned land.
      Agate, pet wood, jasper, and chalcedony all have the same hardness. Opal is a lot softer in tone. And when handling it it has a different texture/feeling.

    • @RockHoundingAdventures
      @RockHoundingAdventures  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@johnnynephrite6147 it certainly is but you need to know where you can go. BLM Land and State Land are ok for rock hunting but not in Conservation Land.

    How can one tell Agate and Opal apart? I see Agate, Opal and Chert and for the most part they all look the same to me especially as here in NJ its all water worn as we use to be under the ocean or our geology is runoff from the mountains of NY and PA. Chert seems to me to be a bit more satin finish but even that I could be wrong about. Common misidentification on the internet is even more difficult and Specific gravity tends to be relatively all over for both stones overlapping at that :(

  • @johnnynephrite6147
    @johnnynephrite6147 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    too much jasper being called "common opal". Opal common or gem, is light and you might think its plastic, with a specific gravity of around 2.15.
