When she said "If I didn't have an abortion back then, you should be about this age too.." there was probably a hint of regret in her voice tone. Because her other children are so busy and she has to live alone, she's just imagining that if she didn't have the abortion, the youngest child could have taken care of her and she will not be that lonely.. That's what I got from this whole short film. Very simple yet touching. Good job!
The ending really hit me. Ah... this video is really sad because my grandmother would also talk to me like this when I visit. Old people have it hardest when it comes to loneliness because they're usually forgotten and seen as a burden. Can you imagine looking back on your life and just reliving old memories because there's no one around you can be with to make new ones?
Yes my grandmother talks to me abt her old memories etc.Miss her a lot after she pass on.She was my closest one that i was comfortable to talk with.....Spent a lot of time with her
Why does a mother always suffer so much for us who left them alone to die waiting to see us one last time. I'd try to be a better son. With lots of love from India . It touched my heart.
This is really award winning material.. The mama can really act. The moment she saw the pregnant lady in the market, she remember that she like to eat bittergourd. The communication between her and her imaginary son...and at the end, we can literally sense her emptiness and regrets..It is such a great short film
A beautifully written film. of an elderly mother reflecting on memories of her two children and still carrying the regret in her heart when she had to abort one of her pregnancies. That hurt and regret and also guilt never disappears.
It is important to spend time with older people who experience loneliness; especially if they are not able to get out very often. One day we will want someone to be there for us.
I totally like this short movie! Love the twist in the plot, the surprise in the end. So unpredictable! Standing applause for the Mama, she does sounds very alike with mostly lonely grandma nowadays, unstoppable chit chat. Awesome!!
It's wonderful to see a quality film spoken entirely in hakka. This film has beautiful camera work, setting, and superb acting especially by the woman - her hakka is beautifully spoken. I was very disappointed with the ending. It was too melodramatic and I think it spoilt the beauty of this film. I will continue my search for hakka films of this quality but with a more uplifting story.
I freaking get it now. So the grandma has been talking by herself and her son doesn't even exist because she aborted the baby So she's like pretending that his son is right beside her... Am I right?
Elise Hope Francisco I guess the son is ignore her saying, and he does care what her mother say and maybe they are not close so they don't talk to each other often
She talked about her younger days when she was in school. She was pregnant but unaware of it. We can suspect that when she was at the port, something happened that they came to know she was pregnant with him at the time. We can surmise she aborted him for several reasons: 1. she was still a student. 2. Asian society probably does not accept a girl pregnant without being married. 3. she was unprepared, still young and scared, etc. She said she never liked bitter guard until she was pregnant with him - this is symbolic of her regret of the abortion.
As i have understand in this story ~ Her son that's why he can not talk, He is just only an imagination ~ Because in the end of the story that mother said "if i didn't have an abortion back then, you should be about this age too" ~ The guy her son that she mentioned that she was aborted ~Nice story
In Chinese "eating bitterness" means to endure hardship. Bitter melon is focused on three times in this film. The bitter melon is symbolic. She has to bear the hardship of the decisions that haunt her.
That ending was like a punch to the stomach. I thought that the son had died, I never expected that plot twist. It has made me wonder about what my late mother went through after her miscarriage. Thank goodness I was always there for her, right to the end.
I guessed a bit, during the lunch, because the son never said a word, (typical of ghosts) and has a somewhat reproachful look when he looks at his mom.
When i watched this short movie, i remember with my mom...same as like her so lonely and always talk about the past, just every day watching television and sleep, cannot do home job anymore...so sad
I miss my grandma I lost her when I was 11 year's old 😔 she always want to sleep with me but I don't want because I want to sleep with my parents and now I really regret 😊 she always buy for me everything, she always be with me😊I always make a lot of memories with her I love you grandma 💕
I know that im from the U,S but like my family doesnt have alot of food in the house cause is hard to get money and pay the bill but my mom come home and cook me her home meal that she can cook and she took care of me and my 3 brothers and my baby sister and everytime when their nothing to eat she make sure that there is rice and bowl of food and she share it with us and we live in a small house that have 3 bed room and the house is so small but I was always dating guys who just use me or hurt me with my kindness and my mom was always there for me when I have did drama at high school and she took care of me im happy that I still have my mom
A good quality mini film ... done probably in the state of Negri Sembilan with mention of Port Dickson, prodominently Hakka people in Seremban, Mantin, Rantau and Titi towns.... Meixian or Huizhou Hakka, quite mixed dialects thereabouts..
mama Malaysia drama its so sad because at the end when mama has old memories and she show it to the son and ask him about the sad stuffs and I love you mama be careful>.
I suspected that he was dead and something tragic happened in the past and the mother can't mentally cope with that so she's talking to her imagination
I admire this lady. Good actress. I thought the son getting irritated with her non stop talking and will eventually tell her to shut up. Lol.. Yes countless of elderlies are left on their own. Generations before are better, children cares and misses their parents. This generation ??? Dont build up hopes. We face dissapointments mostly.
Viddsee.. thank you.. Very professionally done and it reminds me of my Childhood/Teenage yrs. The village and the wet market scene look like Yesterday to me. The Hakka spoken is perfect thou your subtitle is distorted a bit. I think the story line depends on the viewers since your production of this short film are all on live ,which includes her imaginary son would be ,if she had not opt for the abortion. Her flash back was trigger, when she pump into the pregnant lady..are bitter groud used for abortion those days ? Where is those locations ? Look like my former village and I can see mama's house is marked 'C9' which about to be bulldozed ? This dilect of Hakka is widely spoken in the outskirt of KL.. could it be Serdang Baru or Salak South New Village . Watch this many X Thanks
This is hakka, at first I just looking at the English sub because I thought I wouldnt understand it and then suddenly I recognize this hakka but in lil bit different accent! =_=
Seriously why do elderly get lonely when they are old man everybody that is reading till this point promised me this : never leave your parents alone when they are old

if she didn't have an abortion the son would have been married and busy as well.
Sagittarius ur correct
As much as I can understand this should be the eldest son, said didn't even know that she was pregnant at the time, which means unexpected pregnancy.
aw. my oldest aunt takes care of my grandmother ❤️
I don't get it what does abortion means?
The ending really hit me. Ah... this video is really sad because my grandmother would also talk to me like this when I visit. They also try to relive their old memories in fear of forgetting them.

Then she talked with her ghost son...
Gosh, I can't hold these tears 😢
I was wondering why he never said a thing.
I totally like this short movie! Love the twist in the plot, the surprise in the end. So unpredictable! Standing applause for the Mama, she does sounds very alike with mostly lonely grandma nowadays, unstoppable chit chat. Awesome!!

Hello. You found a fellow Hakka here from Singapore. Ee hao!!! :)

It's Hokkien not hakka
@@bellebithx1420 it's hakka :)
A lot of Hakka women now are intermarrying with Indian men.

THATS WHY I LOVE MY GRANDMA AND MY MOTHER BECAUSE THEY LOVE ME SO MUCH AND I TOTALLY CRY ON THIS VIDEO!
Award-winning standard for the script, mama, director, cinematography and everything!
I freaking get it now.
So the grandma has been talking by herself and her son doesn't even exist because she aborted the baby
So she's like pretending that his son is right beside her... Am I right?
correct my friend!!!
Elise Hope Francisco I guess the son is ignore her saying, and he does care what her mother say and maybe they are not close so they don't talk to each other often
But then again, didn't the subtitles said that had she not aborted some time befire, he will be at this age? @9:38?
Elise Hope Francisco no it’s the husband
At first, i thought the son didn't say anything because she was speaking all the time. she's been imagining and remembering.
I love how the aunt start talking about how expensive the fish is. Just like my dad mumbling because the chicken and onion is so pricey. 🤣🤣
Now I love my grandma even more... 😭
This is one of the best short films I have ever watched.

The mother looks like my grandmother, and this film made my heart shattered. Well, I'm going to the feels train

That was so sad. I do oppose abortion and this has given me another reason to keep on valuing the life of a baby.
Love this, better than omeleto
Really Heartbreaking...
reminds me of my grandparents
Mom stop cutting the onion 😭😭😢
Wow, the lady is speaking in my Chinese dialect: Hakka!
did anyone notice that album is blank and she is just having an imaginary family?
The ending was sad...The son didn't talk coz he was a fictional character, not real
She regretted the abortion..things we do in the past will haunt us as we grow older and old.
I feel so sad for the old lady
she talked with herself imagining that her boy is beside her because the other son and daughter is away from her
She is just like my grandma
Well, that was just freaking sad....
