- Dave asks Paul to reprise some characters he's portrayed on previous shows, so this clip begins with flashbacks of his characters' first (and only) presentations.
The first is from August 16, 1984, when, during Viewer Mail, Paul becomes Roland Pastell. The second is from the Summertime Sunshine Happy Hour on August 29, 1985, with Paul as Zetron, Jr.
Back to the September 18 show, Dave then recites a Doug Swander fun fact and introduces for the first time a Top Ten list, "Words That Almost Rhyme with Peas," followed by responses to phone calls on the show's answering machine, which is nothing like Viewer Mail. During this segment Dave displays the "Firm Grip" offered by an audience member before the show.
The "Firm Grip" becomes the focal point of the next Act with Miss America 1986, Susan Akin. Finally, Dave escorts Susan outside to greet pedestrians.
..I'm not sure how I never noticed this before, but Paul and The World's Most Dangerous Band play the song, "Fire", at 15:14; "Wait Until Tomorrow", at 21:26; "If 6 Was 9", at 25:10; and "Spanish Castle Magic", at 30:00... ..as I was watching the video this time, I glanced down and happened to notice the date this originally aired: September 18, 1985... ..Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970.. ..sometimes Paul selects songs and I dont understand how they fit in with/segue into anything (such as "Strawberry Letter #23", by The Brothers Johnson), but this time Paul and the band played a timely 'theme' of songs..! 😎 ..nice going..! 😉😉😉

Very creative edits. Love the theme of this one. Paul's characters and first top 10. Its a good one too. For some reason I vaguely remember that one. However, I always thought the top 10 was there from the beginning. This whole show was good.
Also, Paul is so underrated. He didn't do exactly what Dave did but he added a lot to the show. His schmaltzy Vegas-sy character rubbed aome people the wrong way thinking he was being totally serious. He was straddling a fine line of pretension. Paul could have been on SCTV easily.
Another good one, Don. You've provided a wonderful service. No, really!
That first Top Ten List is beautifully awkward. Paul loves to play any game Dave would like to play.

Susan is my favourite Miss America!
She was a racist came out publicly against mixed marriages during her reign. Interesting she got to keep her crown. In today's world they would have rightly stripped her of the title.

@@kellydixson9221 She was a drunk during her reign. Her "bodyguard" who traveled with her was actually her boyfriend who was a married man with three children. She came from trash and returned to trash. She had one child that she lost custody of and has been in and out of rehab.
