I think the main difference between the transportation networks of Europe and North America (especially the US, not so much in Canada), freeways were planned to be the only means of transport within a city, so they reach much deeper into the urban fabric. European cities have larger freeway-free areas. Other than that, in some European freeways you can find very narrow lanes where some pickup trucks won't fit. And there's always less land to use so features like shoulders, on- and offramps and so on have to be narrower and/or shorter.
Watching this, and the first thing I asked myself is: How does the traffic in Vienna compare to the traffic in Barcelona. Which one is harder to drive through and why???? Vienna is a beautiful city, but I would be overwhelmed, as I am a country gal that loves her neighbors.. the cows. lol I'm happy though, I can go visit these wonderful cities in your camera, seeing what you were seeing. Beautiful job, and can't wait for the next installment of Austria.
Hi, Barcelona has an advantage which is the street grid, which is basically that -a grid. And many streets are one-way. The streets in Vienna are more winding are most are two-way and this makes driving more complex. However the good thing about this is that drivers are more used to this and will not chew the lane next to them on a bend, for example. Something they do all the time in Barcelona and confuses foreign drivers.
Great video! You mentioned that there will be fastest route between Vienna and Plague when Czech finish their part. Which Czech motorway/expressway? Is it the D52 motorway (Dálnice D52) formerly R52 expressway (Rychlostní silnice R52) from Austria border where it continues as A5 to Brno at the D1 motorway (Dálnice D1) interchange? Here's the map and the article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D52_motorway According to D52's Wikipedia article, the section between Pohořelice to Mikulov is still planned. The other section on Brno - Modřice was opened in end of 1970s and Modřice - Pohořelice was opened in 1996.
Nice video. But some of those direction overhead boards have so much destinations and information on them it's impossible to read in one pass. It's like the French who sometimes stack so many information in overhead - but usually sperated - destination boards. What for me personal makes Austria difficult is the letter spacing or 'condensed' letterfont on their destination signs. It makes it much more difficult to read quickly. But otherwise, very nice and informative video.
Hi, you're right, but Vienna is in such a central position that you can reach everywhere in Europe from there. I also think that navigating these roads using only directional signage is very difficult, you have to plan your trip in advance or else it's very easy to get lost.

Strange you said the tunnel from 2.1km is the longest road tunnel. But the tunnel from stetten is 2.2 km
