Okay Tommy here is what you do for your Honda engine predicament. You get a b16a3 head with a b18c3 bottom end and put them together to make a Frankenstein engine that will put down about 210hp 192tq with the b16 cam you are speaking of and a decent tune on it. You can mix and match blocks heads, valves, Pistons between all of the B series engines to create all kinds of different combinations from rev happy with no torque to all the grunt and no RPM or any combination of the two that you wish. But all in all with what you are asking for- and how you felt about the integra type r jdm version I really think you need to do the b16 head on the b18c3 bottom end!!
You need to change the thermostat in the car thats why its not heating up. Also wont let you hit vtec. 98 itr has HiD head lights, 4.785 final drive, 4-1 factory stainless headers, 5 lug with 36mm cv nuts (big axles compared to USDM and EK9) 98+ ITR heads are also machine ported not hand ported like early ITR, 98+ itr is lower then 95-97, 98+ ITR also has a larger rear sway bar and different rear bumper. Quite a lot of differences but the gearing kills the 98+ 4th and 5th are longer but swap them out for the 96 4th and 5th and with the 4.785 final drive it makes for a super short fun transmission.
Loved the driving clips ( Phil Mer for some reason a bit of the footage in the video was pixelated a bit). Now your just need a NSX Type-R or Type S-Zero for the Honda Boy collection.

Yes you’re 100% correct. 98 spec the sought after model. Due to having SLIGHTLY more HP , slightly shorter gearing having a 4.7 fd vs 4.4 in 96 and they also have the five lug vs the 4 lug and they changed some options and such I think too
I think I read somewhere that the B16B from the EK9 basically has the same block as the B18, with different internals and I believe one has a bit more headwork than the other. If this holds true it could be helpful if there is a build in order for the EK9.
Spoon dose alot of b16b civic type r engines where they put b18 type r bottom end inside the b16 type r block ...so you could rebuild the civic type r motor with the b18c5 bottom end

I would like to see a full resto bc it’s stupid clean As for the ek9 I’d say a couple oem upgrades like a different trans would work in preserving value as well as making it a bit faster ? Possibly ? Idk man. Love the new Hondas and all the Honda content as a true Honda boy it’s great to watch
I’d sell the Phoenix yellow ITR, keep the EK and Jdm ITR. They are both great JDM masterpieces. And potentially a Kswap for the ek9. Love the sound of the JDM ITR, sounds rowdy as hell.
My automotive school got sent an Phoenix yellow itr back in the day, directly from Honda themselves. Thing just sits in the back lot with 4K miles on it. I have pics of the car and odometer lol
Try changing out the gear oil to redline or Honda oem, I had the same problem in my accord at high rpm and my trans was over filled by previous owner and had some old ass burnt out fluid in it, soon as I changed it all the problems went away
Between 96/98 spec ITR 98 has 5 lug hubs, bigger brakes and a 4.7 final drive. I think you just need a 98 spec aswell :) Surprised the eg is quicker than the ek9 aswell with the B16b being 185hp.
The steering wheel in the Zenki 96 Spec ITR is nicer than the ones that come in the Kouki models. They use the same wheel in the EK9 and CL1 Accord Euro Rs. It's chunkier. Same wheel is also used in some Ferrari models.
@9:45 My 94 del sol with the b16a3 had skunk2 stage 2 cams and adjustable cam gears, with headers/CAI, and a basic dyno tune and was at 187 whp can't remember what TQ was at but it really woke up with those mild cams and a little cam/ignition timing. P.s. That things engine tone in VTEC sounds so good. 😈
the steering wheel in the EK9 is a Momo which is also the same one used in a ferrari, also B16B is just a destroked B18C Motor, get a legit spoon chip for the ecu to open that B16B

ITR crankshaft into the EK9 will give you back the torque, B16b is a de stroked B18C R engine, you could also get a jdm B20B engine and some RS machine 11.5.1 comp pistons and get more torque..people have done this numerous times all around the world.
hondas shine cornering. i have a 8th gen civic r18 making around 300, has a rotax belt driven and a level 10 trans good for 500hp, people hate the autos but i kinda love it only thing i don't love is the no control over the overdrive if i could turn off 5th gear it would be a real ripper.
They have the 94-97 style rear bumper they are 4x114 and instead of 5x100 the wheels do come champ white and the seats are black wit read sticking instead of red and the momo factory wheel I actually have the exact steering wheel and they have the 4.40 final drive where the 98 jdm itr has a 4.78 final drive but the temp sensor on the side of the cylinder head under the dizzy and vtec solenoid is either bad or bad connection or not plugged in
Stroke the b16b in the ek9.. b18c crankshaft and rods and keep the pct b16b pistons. Youve a high comp fassst “b18c” while keeping the original ek9 b16b block
think the differences is the gearbox the itr maybe have a 4.7 final drive while the civic only have the 4.4 also i think the ek comes with a b16b type r while the Integra comes with with the b18c5
@@JDMz idk that might be true, I’m not super well versed in Hondas tbh. I’ve just been seeing some of the drift guys revving them out to 9-10k recently and thought it’d make for a cool build. Maybe even supercharge it or sum down the road
tommy you need to have the white itr tuned and have the vtec kick in around 4500 rpm instead of where it is now. will make a big difference in low rpm pulls.
I use to have that itr engine in my ek midori green and i did 13,72 on the 1/4, no burnout, slow and nice lunch with good tire. I have to say it had a tuned from a shop from japan ''Feel's'' if anybody know them, they know how honda b,h,k,f series work! And yes do it put that itr engine in the ek9 with the itr trans with 4.47 final drive!
What you need to do is get a Vtec controller and drop the Vtec engagement to 4500rpm, also the eg hatch would be quicker with a different engine, b16's are ok but slower for sure. Also there might be something up with the Ek cause B16b's aren't slow there right in line with the ITR tbh.
You should check the '99 Accord type R (CH1) with H22A7 engine, it's a unknown Type R but got some serious power, lsd and a good stock chassis. They sold the accord euro R CL1 in japan reffert to the Accord type R, only sold in europe, they are based on the same chassis. I lives in france and I got one CH1 and man it's a real Type R. Loves your honda boi content
The usdm is heavier due too crash regulations yes, all of the cars would respond better with FD and gear kit mods vs engine swaps or building the engines way more.
96 specs are lighter than 98 spec and have a 4.4 final drive whereas 98 spec has a 4.7 final drive. 98 spec has xenon headlights from factory and slightly different tail lights, different rear bumpers, 5 stud hubs, bigger brakes. Pretty sure only the very very late 98 spec type Rx came with the EK9 intake cam.
The B16B and the B18C (ITR) share the same crank. All you need are rods and pistons from an ITR and put it into the B16B to have essentially a 98 ITR Also the 96 ITR is not the “fastest” per se. The 98 ITR with the 4.78 final drive felt a little more peppy due to the taller final drive.
If you want more torque with a b series, swap a b20vtec with couple bolt ons or fully built They are fun engine with more torque than the b18/b16 but have a weaker cylinder wall that's the only downside
man it's sorta sad that nissan didn't really deliver a high revving FWD car to compete with honda and toyota.... I really want tommy to drive a 2000 or 2001 Celica GTS, those things were probably the closest thing to a integra from another manufacturer, they really just needed better suspension IMO, just seeing him drive the ITR reminded me of mine, also I think chris should try a 2zz swapped mr2 from the early 2000s, although i haven't driven one i think they might just be the mid/rear engined miata of that era and although i own a miata i would love to have a go in a swapped mr2 and potentially trade for one (this might be a great OEM+ project tommy) for those that don't know the 2zz was the same engine in the lotus elise (it just revved higher due to ECU tuning) and the mr2 is a midengined car just like the elise so if you swapped it with that engine you basically had a poor mans lotus (you can also make it rev to like 10 grand if you get the right ECU/ tune)
Check out the Nissan Pulsar VZR that comes with an SR16DE with 8 fuel injectors and Nissan's VVL variable valve timing system. Very rare and underappreciated car that competed with the EK9. There's videos of it on Best Motoring back in the 90s. Another similar high revving machine was the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg R with its MIVEC variable valve timing system.

As for the ek9 I’d say a couple oem upgrades like a different trans would work in preserving value as well as making it a bit faster ? Possibly ?
Tommy is making me miss the Honda scene in the 90s, I was a mild Honda boy in the 90s
The vtec crossover in that itr sounds so aggressive. Definitely my favorite part about the driving clips!
Dude thank you for the hondaboy content! I love s chassis but damn so happy to see this!!!
I think you just need a 98 spec aswell :)
Surprised the eg is quicker than the ek9 aswell with the B16b being 185hp.
b16b is dead :) no way b16a2 is faster than b16b
Tommy went full on back to the roots
the steering wheel in the EK9 is a Momo which is also the same one used in a ferrari, also B16B is just a destroked B18C Motor, get a legit spoon chip for the ecu to open that B16B
Anybody else get "Rudnik burning down a car" vibes from that backroad he said he'd never been down lmfao. Looked really close.
Tommy, my guy, you are doing god's work gettin back to your roots a little. I love it. Wish I was closer, for my rust free 89 HF. Wink* Wink*
ITR crankshaft into the EK9 will give you back the torque, B16b is a de stroked B18C R engine, you could also get a jdm B20B engine and some RS machine 11.5.1 comp pistons and get more torque..people have done this numerous times all around the world.
Obviously jdm k20a or k24a2 would be awesome also.
hondas shine cornering. i have a 8th gen civic r18 making around 300, has a rotax belt driven and a level 10 trans good for 500hp, people hate the autos but i kinda love it only thing i don't love is the no control over the overdrive if i could turn off 5th gear it would be a real ripper.
Anyone notice the JDM ITR didn't engage vtec @ 14:00? A bit later @ 15:50 it did engage vtec.
The header and some better porting on the 98+ . Not a big diff at all. Feels slow nowadays but still cool to experience.
Stoked on the jdm itr dc2 so much better. Look up the H22a 220hp to the crank. Had one in my Honda torneo type r. thing rips
The 98 also got the n3e lsd Trans I had that Trans once before mf 4k rpm cruising on highways 🤣
Love the heck out of the itr. All this honda content is killer! That vtec crossover is wild sounding!
B18 crank and rods in your b16b will stroke the b16b to a 1800cc. B16b pistons are higher compression too
N/a 10k revving k24 in the integra, also at this rate tommy should start building Hondas like he does skylines for customers😂
Probably no money in it. The honda boys are just as broke as the Colorado boys.
@@chaserdown fair point
Revving a k24 that high won't last long. Due to the longer stroke they seem happy at around 8500. The k20a2 is the one that loves high rpm. 11k rpm
@@JDMz idk that might be true, I’m not super well versed in Hondas tbh. I’ve just been seeing some of the drift guys revving them out to 9-10k recently and thought it’d make for a cool build. Maybe even supercharge it or sum down the road
@@evanpelkey7864 k20’s are the rev-happy motors. K24’s are the ones with more torque.
Yes!!!!! Such a brilliant car. I had one a few years ago, totally loved it. Now own a dc5 integra type r
tommy you need to have the white itr tuned and have the vtec kick in around 4500 rpm instead of where it is now. will make a big difference in low rpm pulls.
You can tell in video the jdm itr is way faster than the ek9
I use to have that itr engine in my ek midori green and i did 13,72 on the 1/4, no burnout, slow and nice lunch with good tire. I have to say it had a tuned from a shop from japan ''Feel's'' if anybody know them, they know how honda b,h,k,f series work! And yes do it put that itr engine in the ek9 with the itr trans with 4.47 final drive!
96' is the rawest of them all. If change the final drive, then its pretty much the best.
Wheels came champ white (sprayed) from factory and the 98 spec also had a diff header over the 96 spec
You should probably compression test the ek9, it shouldn’t feel slow
Yes bro, test the b16b!! That needs to keep up with the itr
The b16b is the same block as the b18c. If you want to make it more power all you have to do is b18 crack and rods
All you need are rods and pistons from an ITR and put it into the B16B to have essentially a 98 ITR
Also the 96 ITR is not the “fastest” per se. The 98 ITR with the 4.78 final drive felt a little more peppy due to the taller final drive.
You should buy an LS bottom end or a b18c bottom end for the ek9, you could keep using the original head and make more power than both Integras
Tommy put speedfactory racing detent springs in the trans, it takes like 2 minutes to change and makes the shifts super notchy
Also on the white type r check the bushings for the shifter rods before you go into the trans
Tommy prefers Mayo over mustard loool
Jdm 98 spec itr also has a 4.7fd and a different 4th and 5th gear (s80 trans) vs a 4.4fd in a 96 spec itr
did you know the beeping sound when u open the door on a honda with the key still in the ignition is morris code for the letter "H" ?
I enjoy Honda content more than skyline content. Sold my skyline and got back into the Honda game. Also should do a FULL track build on this Type R!
If you want more torque with a b series, swap a b20vtec with couple bolt ons or fully built
They are fun engine with more torque than the b18/b16 but have a weaker cylinder wall that's the only downside
man it's sorta sad that nissan didn't really deliver a high revving FWD car to compete with honda and toyota....
@@brittonwritespoetry I never knew about the vzr variant, that is indeed very cool and i wonder how they compare
I just ordered that pleasure Evo pack!!! ......like 5 minutes ago lol
That induction noise when it hits VTEC is sooooo good
Need hondata s300 ecu for all the hondas. Next you need 97+ prelude jdm or euro. Look for one of those for the collection. 220hp with 156ft lbs. Then the s2000 jdm
Did a pull at 15:12 and never got a VTEC changeover. You can hear the difference at 16:14 . Weird.
yo tommy i know exactly what you talking about i drove all integras gs ls gsr usdm itr and now i have a 96 jdm itr myself and seriously luv the hell out of it biiig difference to wit performance. luv the content bro
Toda headers and a B18C crank n pistons into the B16B please.
High RPM issues shifting. If the clutches ok it's likely the synchros are toast.
The ek9 needs a jdm s80 4.7 final drive type r gearbox, be a big difference and more rev happy 😊
98 Specs are also 5 stud with the bigger wheels you have on the EG and have a few more changes, mostly cosmetic.
The inner honda boy in me loving the vtec noises got me wanting to build hondas again
Had a ej7 bolt on tuned making 170hp and the torque on that was nuts can’t imagine a ITR. Been wanting a daily Honda but ive been holding myself back because I know I’ll build it correctly now and spend too much😂
96 spec itr is lighter and has shorter gear 4.4 final drive VS the 98 spec has a 4.75 final drive.
Here in west coast, 96 spec with the USDM front is holy grail itr
The bald head silhouette during the beginning honda clip. Gave me video game vibes. 😂 ❤️
