    This week I had the opportunity to get up with my buddy CJ Lord (@cjlord) and get into some big browns in skinny water. He introduced me to a new flipping streamer technique that turned out to be very effective. Although we only caught 3 fish, we moved at least 10 fish with a few being upwards of 25 inches. Super fun time and a 100% public and wild stream.

    Awesome as always guys. Gonna try this next time I get out after lock down on some big Nz trout. I’ve been doing some extreme close range streamer fishing and it’s worked a treat, but from watching what your going is heavier might be the go. Did a nice vid recently “huge trout small creeks fly fishing” using this close range method but I’ve learned a few thing from this vid I’m twitching to try

Great video and camera work to. Good job!

    Nice streams, that's for sure! And the fishing this way, with these large streamers, is sort of reminiscent of lure fishing (just an observation from a die hard lure fisherman who knows nothing about fly fishing ;)). BTW, I agree completely regarding longer rods. I'ts a mystery why lure fishermen by default will chose rods that are 5-6 feet long and even shorter, but fly fishermen will go with much longer rods in the exact same streams. Longer is better! :)
    Tigh lines!

    Another great video and my compliments to you both on the fishing, the tips, the camera work, etc. BTW, which backpacks are you each using here? I'm shopping but haven't decided on the right one for me yet. Thanks On another note, I'm an ex tournament bass angler and the idea of flippin' for trout gave me some real chuckles as I watched.

      Bass Star that's great man and likely where I get it from being a traditional bass fisherman growing up. It almost felt natural to flip. I wear a fishpond pack but cut the hard flying pouches off and absolutely love it!

      around 3,300 and higher but you can find them really at any high elevation as long as theres deep sections and cover for them to hangout under.

  • @backbonz
    @backbonz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    10’6” 3 wt right? Can you run down line/leader combos y’all were using? Flipping you basically had no fly line out of the guides right? The 2nd half of the video on bigger water, he made casting seem easy, was he throwing larger streamers there? Couldn’t tell. I struggle throwing streamers on a 5wt even.

    • @theclordj12
      @theclordj12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      backbonz I use Appalachianfurledleaderco big meat leader. Which is a 36 inch flouro furled leader. When flipping I keep a few feet of fly line out of the guides. When on the big water, that's a very heavy articulated sculpin with sculpin helmet. Just gotta get your timing down. 😀

    • @backbonz
      @backbonz 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      theclordj12 what kind of fly line? You said it wasn’t sinking right?

    • @theclordj12
      @theclordj12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      backbonz floating line. Sinking line just gets down too fast on the small water, so I use weighted flies instead. Its Airflo Kelly Galloup nymphing line.

    • @urbanflyman6389
      @urbanflyman6389 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to use a flyline to cast these bigger\heavier flies,try something like an OPST Commando,or a dedicated streamer line,lots available.

      It’s more of a flipping technique to get your streamer in tight spots with minimal splash in the water. Really good technique for small streams.
