Nothing compares to the original line-up and especially the original lead singer, Victor Willis. In my opinion Ray Simpson was always a poor replacement.
They were great. Too bad they were fruits who tried to push their weirdness onto others. Nearly every one of their songs promoted the gay lifestyle. In any case, they were definitely one of the best groups of the disco era. My favorite songs of theirs were this one (Hollywood), San Fransisco, Fire Island, Key West, and Just a Gigolo. Didn't care much for YMCA and In The Navy, as they were too over-the-top weird in their messages.
It's ok to promote a gay lifestyle if you're gay,just like heteros promote their lifestyle.There's room for everyone. It was fun dance music,no one got hurt.
