The piano player is the person who knows and corrects EVERYBODY on their notes. So Devante is playing, keeping harmony AND listening to where the lead singer is going wrong. Not to come off string but everything has his place lead singers can not no shit, just have a god given voice. Devante had the ear and all the writing and arrangement ability. He wasn’t just a the dude that made the group cause he was so dame pretty. Biggest misconception of that group.
U can tell K-ci and JoJo sings hard in the background cause their voices overpower the background vocals but Dalvin and Devante can be heard as well especially if u listen to their songs with headphones on, u can hear them...These boyz were BAD!!

DEvante made more money than the other members because he was everything besides the lead singers. NOT to mention he is still Zaddy in 2019.
Back in the day nobody thought Jodeci could top their 1st album with a sophomore album. We were so wrong. I showed up to Harmony House everyday for 2 months to see if the new album was released yet. When I got it home finally I had goosebumps listening to it. Every song on that album is a hit.

In my opinion, I think JoJo is best at the smooth and silky vocals, and K-Ci is best at the powerful and raspy vocals. To me there's really no best in Jodeci because they all had something they were better at than others.

You hit the nail on the head... I would always have to go and explain Jodeci's harmony to people. Devante is a genius when it comes to production and vocal arrangements. That is why their harmony is sooo tight and has that weird twang to it because you've got 4 people singing and there are only 2 whole cords the other 2 half cords.

History right here. Laying down the classics. I met Devante in 1997 or so when he was doing the Above the Rim soundtrack at Horizon Sound in Maryland. My man Dino from H-Town (RIP) was in the hallway practicing his lines for the song "Part Time Lover". Let me tell you, that dude had the dopest tone and sounded incredible just singing in the hallway. But anyway, I met DeVante as he was putting the record together and he was a cool brother. I told him I was a huge fan and asked how they got their harmonies so tight and crispy! He told me how they layered 4 tracks per note and that he did all the Low notes because K-Ci's range wasn't deep enough. I was surprised. He also said Jo Jo was his favorite though and that he would probably end up doing more leads, which became the case years later with their solo stuff. Great experience an a pleasure watching a master work his magic. Darrel P. was also there laying down background vocals, guitar, and bass. Another DMV talented brother. Miss those days of real music.
K-Ci part was lit 🔥, everything he does on the mic is divine ✨️ 🙌, He was born vocally blessed! Jojo joking around was nice to hear him him cut a joke, silly. Love the sarcasm.

That might be funny watching that in this video, but DeVante getting robbed really fucked his life up. It fucked him up as a person and also his career. That event led to a lot of other bullshit and hindrances that got in the way of his music and business. He was never the same after it.

My favs are DeVante and jojo,! Man. Jo’s singing voice is/ was sultry and sexy as Hell. Jodeci definitely doesn’t get the credit they deserve, not only were they hot sss musicians they were also trend setters! I didn’t know not one person who didn’t want those Doc Martins aka Jodeci boots in the early 90’s.

I'm the BIGGEST Jodeci fan, and finding this video is like opening the suitcase in the movie "Raiders of the lost ark" (feels so good saying that knowing that ur speaking 2 an ADULT audience if their on this page) Their 1st cd knocked me out. That might be funny watching that in this video, but DeVante getting robbed really fucked his life up. It fucked him up as a person and also his career. That event led to a lot of other bullshit and hindrances that got in the way of his music and business. He was never the same after it.
