Those two things have nothing to do with each other...Tanmay's issue is that comics aren't accepted and body standards are harshly judged while her issue is sexism...neither of them deserve it and also....neither of them have the right to disregard the other's issue...meanwhile..you and I have no relevance in disregarding anyone

I think the reason there are fewer women in comedy is the same as in case of fewer women in company board rooms , both of these jobs require a large gestation period and as a society we do not provide our women enough space and time to pursue there careers

Aditi have problem with camel toe but "Landh" is ok it's funny hahaha..... Double standard comic.
When used in a joke and when used for someone specific, has a difference, no one talks about a male comic's landh, but if you are doing the same for a female comic, there is a gap right there.
Actually, she had gone quiet even before this question, if you observe closely in Part 1. And I could feel it very clearly as a woman, 'cause most of us get to a point of isolation in group discussions like. The "brohood" between the five men on the table was visible from the second the discussion started and that Aditi was excluded from that camaraderie is also clear if you read between the lines. And as a woman you bring in all your past struggles for representation and equality to the table which can enhance the sense of isolation to another level. Even when Anupama directly asked the question to Aditi, Vipul decided he should answer the question, despite an interjection from Kanan. And then Aditi had to be invited to the table once again by Anupama cause the men just hijacked the discussion.

And to all those below who feel the need to point out Aditi doesn't deserve to be on the table because she isn't funny enough, just a fact - she has 165k TH-cam subscribers (more then the 71k subcribers on Vipul Goyal's TH-cam channel), who clearly find her funny. She was invited, and by that merit alone, she had the full right to speak her mind on this table as much as any of the men.

To all the men góing "but why is aditi being so passive aggressive yaar", a question was asked about women in the comedy scene and all the men (except kanan) seemed to think "oh, i am clearly more suitable to answer this question than the ONE FEMALE comedian sitting on the table!" and despite being the only woman on the table (apart from anupama herself) she was given the opportunity to speak in the end. Does it not make any sense to you guys that she was clearly pissed by this behavior which women by ṭhe way face almost everywhere?
when you speak in the end, it can often be counted as a conclusion. I don't see anything wrong with it because she had the bigger say without interruption of others wanting to speak about it.
@S RG sir it's not a comedy special so she didn't need to crack a joke. Plus she didn't speak much at all, she only spoke when she was asked to and I don't think it's really appropriate to crack jokes while discussing such an important topic...She made very valid points which needs to be put out there so yeah...I hope u got my point and wish u all the best

Aditi spoke really well..there's a difference between standup comics and comedians like Bharti who earn crores for her MCing shows. The same Indian audience who would ROFLMAO at a "fat" woman jumping on the laps of superstars, or a man dressed as a woman kissing other men, would suddenly become uncomfortable when a woman expresses an opinion or takes a side through her act of comedy. That's the biggest obstacle female comics in India have to face. A lot of tricks were discussed in this round-table about how to make audience laugh- like use slangs "bhenchod" etc, catching a random couple and asking them uncomfortable questions- be honest and ask yourself how many of the people around you would find it as funny if a woman does these things on stage? Again there is also a physical element to these stage performances- I saw one of my favorite comedians Daniel Fernandez holding his mike on his crotch making it look like a penis of a man who took off his pants. Ofcourse there was a context to it and people burst out laughing, but can a woman pull off exactly the same in India? In established art forms like drama women can be as physically open as men are but that's where they are playing some character- in standups you are being yourself- so yes, there are bigger obstacles for women stand-ups than men, but more than anyone else it is us the audience and our perception to be blamed for this.

I loved aditi here. And i am sure her apparent frustration does no justice to the amount of sexism she seems to have encountered on her way up! it was also good to see that at least half the men on that table were painfully aware of comedy's invisible women (kannan, tanmay and biswa) and were at least calling out the problem. Vipul and zakir on the other hand seemed clueless of what the discussion was about, one of them went on to say 'there are no restrictions'. I am not even surprised because that's a common argument, that no-one is stopping women to get where these bright men have landed (a glance at the comment section below proves my point) I wish more people could understand that individuals exist and operate in structures that end up deciding their choices and opportunities. This argument is the equivalent of saying blaming a poor person for their poverty and not recognising the market structures that keep them poor. 'the boys club' and 'the ceiling' are all too valid structural points that aditi raised and i hope she remains vocal about these things. And to people who are celebrating amy schymer, amy poehler and tina fey - all of these ladies faced some or the other form of sexism, body-shaming and ceiling on their way up - they reached there despite these structures and have since contributed to making comedy more inclusive of women in the west. Indian comedy scene is yet to have its own gender-aha moment.
Well said, btw notice how Aditi calls out the fact that almost every guy on the table felt that they are equipped to dissect the problem, that was awesome, they did not even get the joke and looked hurt, and these guys are comics they do it for a living !
Hansika Singh Agree with you on this completely, but I was very disappointed and not at all pleased with her participation (or lack of). I don't know if it was just a bad day, but she looked pissed off through the entirety of the show.

It's nice that Aditi showed her side of the story. We should not ignore this fact and act like there is no such problem.
Why is no one talking about Danial Fernandez, he really talks about pretty important stuff in a hilarious way and makes us think.
I like Biswa the most as he can say the funniest things on very simple things which are not mainstream funny.
Aditi doesn't have to sound funny right now. she's genuinely making sense and saying things that should be put forward with utter confidence that many of those questioning her comedy lack. she's given great standups and I have laughed way to hard in some.
Gender bias surfaces in comments like these where you have to clarify to suppress the mindset of few but you mentioning a thing eventually keeps it out on the table for people to argue upon. Don't say such things at all even if you want to clarify !

Kaafi respect for me, and that I never expected. She didn't snap at all. She said what she had faced. If you (or, anyone) would have noticed, she was kind of serious throughout the conversation, both in part 1 and 2. You can't call her undignified. There may be other reasons of course. But there is a possibility that the industry is being sexist here. That's what Anupama tried bringing up. It's not politicising. Lastly, I am neither a sexist nor a feminist. I am in for something normal and healthy. And no, I am not intolerant or rude or puerile. If you have a right to criticise people, people also have a right to criticise you.
There are a lot of professions, I agree. But, what the subject of the video? Comedy. So, no question of other professions in this discussion. Among the 14 people selected, Aditi or any other female comic is at par with most of them. So why not any female comics? MAYBE, it's just a situation and not what we call sexism. What the comment said was Anupama was politicising and Aditi is snapping. That is a absolutely ignorant comment. Because, that is not what Anupama or Aditi tried portraying. They just brought up a possibility.

demon6592 i disagree with you. i think it IS the most progressive field, in the world maybe! i dont know the business or inside politics as a content consumer, but from what i've seen, the people in this field are feminists, respect women, and mark them as their equals. as aditi said, it is the investors who aren't investing in the females more. but after this, i hope at least one of these takes a stand and calls out those investors as to why equal opportunities are not being created.

What happens at @7:55 followed by @8:00 feels way too familiar to me. Baat yeh nai hai ki is Aditi funny or not. Anupama asked a question which was very pertinent and relevant to Aditi, but all the men jumped in, trying to justify ki nai itna bura situation nai hai we are not gender biased blah blah blah. Aditi didn't even get a chance to speak up until then. When Anupama says women are also funny, Zakir gets defensive as if being pointed as guilty. With all due respect to all these comedians, I enjoy most of these people's work, par how will you know what a woman goes through, man! Let her bloody speak. The world is designed in a way that the system sometimes favours men, aur agar koi uske against aawaz uthaye toh she's perceived as someone who ruined the good vibe! Even when Aditi frustratingly points out all the explaining done by the men on an issue that does not even concern them, Kanan and Zakir act as if they gave her full platform and it's not their fault. They may be progressive, they may be well-read, but even they are not untouched by systemic patriarchal views.
Yes sexism is the reason for women having smaller share of the comedy business in India, but it is the sexism of audience to the larger extent. Also women comedians are on an average less funnier than men because maybe the funniest ladies are not allowed by their families and all to enter this kind of profession. However Superwoman is the funniest South Asian youtuber. Period. whole of AIB+TVF+every other person on this table is equal to Superwoman alone. Yes she faced different societies but she made it on youtube and same south asians made her famous and she is loved much more than anyone in the same audience as faced by these ones. The society is at large sexist and that sexism reflects in this business relatively more as this is a very social profession and you are constantly being judged by the 'sexist' society. Women comics will thrive more n more with time I hope.
That being said, Aditi Mittal is not funny at all. Mallika Dua is gold compared to her. And I laugh watching every Superwoman video, even her face is enough to make me smile. So Aditi Mittal should not whine so much.
The most interesting I find in this video is that on being asked about sexism in their business all the males went almost numb and room went awkward because nobody knows the right answer actually. And the same thing happens in Bollywood, where noone is deliberately sexist but they are market driven and in market sexist content sells more. But AIB and all find it very easy to ask questions from Bollywood personalities and mock them for the sexist things in bollywood. But they take for granted sexism in comedy business themselves. They should preach only what they practice. We don't need so much moral and political guardianship ........things are always said easier than done. So much for being the most progressive ones in the country.....LOL. I laughed so hard on it, the best joke Zakir Khan has ever cracked, unintentionally though.
If you are funny enough, you will get the laughs.Doesnt matter whether your guy or girl. And also its your choice, If you like vegeterian food and I dont like it, it doesnt make vegeterian food bad. Similarly If I like Zakir Khan shows and dont like Aditi Mittal's shows its simply might be because I dont find her jokes funny, not because she is a woman. So if certain public like a guy's show instead of a girl's show it might be due to their sense of humor, not their gender. Kindly let talent be the yardstick.
P.S. I think Kaneez Surka and Mallika Dua are really awesome and way more funnier than Aditi Mittal.

Aditi. Fucking kudos. Just brutally honest. So much love and respect for you.
I don't agree with Aditi personally....she is not that well known because she doesn't put that much stuff online so people don't know her enough and there is less recognition and her excuse that people criticize online is just what everybody suffers through you cannot pay attention to every criticism. There are female comedians who are appreciated and nowadays like mallika dua who is really funny granted she is not a standup comic but she more liked and recognized because people can watch her stuff online which gives her wider audience. Also if Aditi had handled the question asked to her without snapping at everybody and using the opportunity to actually showcase her talent it would have been more appreciated. Sometimes instead of sticking it to the guys just show your talent and spontaneous comic timing and it would have worked out...by being passive aggressive she just bought the energy down. Also she could have put her own point ahead and spoken why wait till somebody has to ask you question its not like the guys do not appreciate the female perspective. I am not saying the points she put are wrong just she could have put them in some other way....
shivangi kulkarni it's fine that u don't find her way funny but the problem as u can see right here in the video is that guys kind of form a gang, a relatablity which aditi can't relate to and was for the most part left out of this conversation.. so you can guess how much more of that she must have gone through in the green room.. which I think would make any person to not to continue what they are doing and certainly deter any other upcoming female comic

Revisiting this video after having just attended a comedy variety show 2 days ago with Sapan Verma, Aman Jotwani, Aditi Mittal, Siddharth Dudeja, and Prashasti Singh - who was the star performer for the evening and had the closing act. Everyone was funny BUT Aditi Mittal - dead awkward silences, not a single joke landing. Poor jokes, pathetic delivery, forceful (in fact almost threatening) overcompensatory decibel levels and overemphasising of words - basically everything that is antithetical to a good, organic laugh. Whereas Prashasti, who I repeat was the closing act and the star performer, and also a woman, had everyone in SPLITS from start to finish in a sharp, flawless set. So Aditi Mittal needs to wake up to the fact that SHE is the problem, not her gender. If she fails to elicit laughs even after all these years in the business, maybe she is not cut out for this at all and never was.

Abhishek I feel no comedian is always funny it's just that u are if once impressed with a comedian you tends to like thier lame joke as well. comedy is very diverse one joke might just roll down you on floor but can't even bring a smile on my face, context and connection is also one of the important thing in comedy

All the people referring to Amy Schumer and Superwoman as successful comedians, please read up about the struggles they had to face to be where they are today. And all that struggle despite the West providing a lot more opportunity than India to talented women in any field. Now compare the same to Aditi and her female colleagues in India - its a bloody struggle to even get recognised as talented just coz ure a woman! Thus, instead of wondering why Aditi was so pissed off, try and wonder how you can change things in ur immediate surroundings so that tomorrow if ur sister, daughter or friend wants to become a comedian, they don't have to go through the same shit!
No. She spoke about the criticism she faced. Everybody faces criticism. Every other comment Tanmay receives is like 'Aeeee Mote, Bhainse'. Go to comment section of any of these guys' videos and you will know. But they don't use it to play the victim card. I think guys are like that because since childhood their friendships are about mocking each other. Whereas for girls it is more about fake pleasantries, compliments and not hurting on the face.
From what she said the only conclusion I make is that she takes criticism very personally. She seems to have come to the room with preconceived notions. She is sitting at the far end and sulking. She is not speaking. All guys are pitching in without invitation. No body is stopping her.
Aditi is very funny but she clearly didn't make use of social media to endorse herself. I have seen only two of her stand up videos which were actually hilarious. But how will people know about you until they see more of you as a comedian?

I agree that there are way too many idiotic men in India (and around the world) who say stupid things like women aren't funny. But in this particular case I was surprised that Aditi wasn't engaging in the conversation (in part 1). She stayed aloof and it wasn't even the case of others talking over her. She just seemed totally disconnected. She wasn't leaning in.
I only know of Aditi because of the roast and in my opinion she was the funniest at the roast. I've also seen other content of hers featuring more popular male Indian comedians. So it's a bit baffling she would act as if the rest of the comedian fraternity has not helped or even impeded in her success. Aditi thinks that she is not popular or not important but this is far from the truth. She has quite a bit of visibility and she needs to double down on it instead of backing off.
heyzutube Absolutely agree! The whole point here wasn't discounting anybody's else's struggles or even Aditi's but the attitude. You cannot have such an attitude to criticism and to hate. When we girls come on social media and put ourselves out there, we know (or hell, yeah, should know!), that haters are gonna be haters. I'm not even talking about genuine criticism. There are people who would be mean to you for no reason. No reason at all. That's a part of the TH-cam game. Why let other people's negativity affect you? For the smallest channel like mine, even I'd random strangers from abroad hitting a dislike on content with Indian ref(without watching a second). ((little do they know, dislike even helps, lol))

Yes, you laugh out loud and instead look at all the positive comments, all the love, all the people watching the video from beginning to end. Analytics gives you everything. To be afraid of mean people n then complaining that you don't have enough content on TH-cam and thus you ain't popular doesn't help. And if a lady, herself counts her down, who's gonna uplift her?
You got to believe you're famous. You got to hold your head high and be eager to learn always.

Now that I have watched most of the Amazon standups (atleast attempted to watch, and left halfway for most), these comments of people saying Aditi doesn't deserve and bla makes even less sense than ever. there were these lousy comedians repeating the same jokes which they had made in canvas club,with ditto same lines ( didn't even take effort to modify) and some unfunny lousy comedian whose name I can't remember although he is associated to a comedy group that I have subscribed to. Biswa, Kanan and Zakir were AWESOME and hands down the best in the libeup, but others not that great. Even Kenny seemed to be dancing around the stage for lack of content for a large part( and he was among the better ones). So yes, i know several female comics who could have made it there,if it was purely about quality of comedy.
Anyway would like to point out to all idiots bashing Aditi for "defending " herself, she just objectively, intact quite reluctantly answered the question that she was asked.she did not even mention Amazon in her answer, she narrated ger experience , her struggle and how she dealt with it and emerged successful.
It was definitely interesting to see that some comedians are that oblivious to the unprogressive aspects of their "clan", that is a passive lack of female empowerment.
It felt like there was a lot of coldness between the boys and her, especially in the first half of the Adda. No one is ready to say There are not enough female comedian who are talented enough. fear of feminism.
However, it is a much deeper issue than that. Comedians tend to speak their minds and voice their opinions - structures in society are such that women face such hurdles to begin with. Speaking your mind is a very recent revolution (if you could name it that) for women. It'll be a slow struggle but hopefully we will get somewhere :)

Personally I don't find Aditi funny.And I know there are fewer female comedians but that will eventually change and the number will increase.There are talented female comics like Kaneez surka,Sumukhi suresh etc and there will be more.It isn't exactly Kanan,Tanmay and all these ppl's fault.Why is Aditi being so bitchy and snappy with them?She makes it look like it is all their fault.i like feminism but she is just being plain rude.

Why is Aditi even invited when she is not even given a chance to speak in the first half of the discussion...??? Even when she was asked to answer the question she had to ask for permission to speak when others were interrupting her constantly...

Invigorating discussion. It was saddening to see that even comedians have to undergo such an amount of self-censorships before their acts. Aren't they supposed to be "Shakespearen wise fools" of our society by putting some truth in their jokes without any fear. And yes Aditi's frustration is justified because apparently female comedians have to undergo through gender stereotyping(sadly by audience too). So basically they do not have to struggle to thrive as a comedian only but also as a female comedian. Like people must be like even before watching their acts "Arey tu aurat he how can you be funny?"

I think this is wonderful - giving this insight to us outsiders of the comic scene on what is going on and asking these questions, which are very pertinent. To the ones who can encash, this gives a good sense of understanding of our society, though not complete. The comic scene is not the only new industry - there are MUN circuits, Poetry movements and other budding industries - which can pick up tiny, yet pertinent and productive a lesson from this - provided there's an open-minded approach.

First of all kudos to Aditi for responding the to the self-unaware and patronizing ass-holery the way she did.
I love how Anupama asks a question to Aditi directly about women and Vipul just takes over "I don't know if I am the right person to answer this... blah blah blah..it's not about gender." (a) The very fact that you felt entitled to respond to something that was not yours to respond to shows that it is about gender. (b) The very fact that without hearing the person you feel entitled enough to dismiss a problem proves that it is about gender. (c) If you don't know if you are the right person to answer this, don't answer. (d) You should know you are not the right person to answer this because your name is not Aditi and that question was specifically asked to her. If a gender-based question is asked to a woman, let her answer. Then if you disagree with her, debate. What's with pre-emptively diffusing her comments? So ignorant. So entitled. So typical. So gross. Another evidence of patronizing masculinity is from Zakir when he makes a self-congratulatory declaration about how they recognize and appreciate humor in women. That you consider saying "funny hain," "achcha kiya" a notable event is evidence that there is some more evolution required. It's almost as if, like in every field, men in this field tend to think they are primary proprietors of this art form and other people participating is an act of their generosity rather than the professionals' merit. And that's not all. There are so many microaggressions in this conversation, I can only imagine what it must be like in the field. I hope the participants watch this video carefully and figure out where the biases and bullshit lie.
Also, Aditi is not the only female stand up comedian in India. So why is she the only woman at the table? Why does Anupama say something along the lines of "sorry to bring you in now because I have to?" She had been mostly silent throughout the conversation, obviously because she isn't a part of the broternity. As one of the guests at her table, Anupama should have drawn her into the conversation much more. Why is it that women are only expected to speak about the "woman experience"? Why can't Aditi also speak as a comedian? Why is she only a gender? Why can't she be a professional too? Even then the mainsplainer can't keep his mouth shut.
I agree with what Tanmay said right after Vipul, but I wish he paid attention to the fact that Vipul just steamrolled Aditi's space and stepped aside that moment to let her answer the question she was specifically asked. Especially because she barely spoke amidst the bro love throughout the show.
One of the reasons you guys have as many appreciators as you do, including me, is because as Zakir said, your politics is generally progressive. There are elitist slip ups (enough with using "meri bai" to demonstrate incompetence/low standard/bad taste, etc. please). But there are concepts, there are singular actions based on them and then there is integrating those beliefs into ours lives so they graduate from being ceremonial utterances into actual lived values. Hopefully you will gain refinement and maturity over time. I am rooting for all of you (maybe not for Vipul because this is the first I came to know of him and now I have zero curiosity about his work). But this was very disappointing to see. Check your privilege. Be mindful about how much space you are hogging.

Same for Aditi, she has every right to express her opinions and I loved her for it. These people are on high horses when they say they are the most “progressive”. it's been 7 years since this conversation came out, where aditi talked about how female comics been treated badly compare to men, but after all these years currently all other female comics kaneez, sumukhi and prashasti have their specials but i stil couldn't find yours.
