Here is the step by step plan to a good avatar game
1: Give the license to a developer like Sucker Punch Productions, Avalanche Software or Insomniac Games
2: Throw money at the project
    3: Profit

I can really see a avatar game styled like sifu or any games from the tales series, due to it deep display of martial arts both from avatar, sifu and tales, and tales games do use magic or artes as they call it in-game, hence where the bending aspect can come in, any devs out there wanna create a demo of this idea?

Great idea! It definitely is a common thread amongst the avatar cycle. Some people care too much about the spiritual realm of being the avatar and neglect their duties as the peace keeper of the 4 nations. Some people keep too much into the human world that they neglect their spiritual duties and being the bridge between the two worlds

That’d work pretty well. I could even see certain moves and abilities being tied to each side of the scale. Fully embracing one side might provide stronger abilities related to that alignment (and possibly different dialogue options) but would cut off abilities that are too far in the other direction. Meanwhile, pursing Balance by staying closer to the center of the scale would allow access to skills from both sides of the scale, albeit slightly weaker than they would be were you to fully embrace one side or the other.

More like Jade Empire that KOTOR. It's still have all of the things you liked from KOTOR. But themes, looks and philosophy works better. And Way of the Closed Fist/Way of the Open Palm works better then Paragon/Renegade.
The Way of the Open Palm, is all about maintaining harmony with nature, one's own surroundings, and the place that one has within the world.
The Way of the Closed Fist is h emphasizes combat, turmoil, and constantly challenging oneself. Closed Fist followers are not concerned with balance or harmony or the larger world consequences of their actions, but they are not disconnected with the world. An evil man ignores a plea for help because he does not care, but a man on the "low path" ignores the plea because that person will survive on their own if they are strong enough.

@@AntoineBandele Totally agree with that, perhaps a more spiritual path leads to a more potent Avatar state, while the other leads to stronger core bending abilities.
I could also see it as playing a role towards a very bittersweet conclusion where the Physical path leads you to being lauded as one of the best Avatars by humans at the expense of worsening relationships with the spirits, whereas the Spiritual path does at least stave off bad blood for a time, but ultimately souring your own reputation amongst humans.

I agree entirely. They could even have a skill or talent tree system where certain bending techniques lead into others and maybe even rare techniques can be accessed by unique combinations. My biggest things that I’d want with an avatar game from any era are for them to go all out with the bending and the environment/world. It doesn’t have to be the most engaging or rewarding game, as long as it goes all out on the cool factor and world building. I’d happily do side quests for hours as fully realized avatar Kyoshi in the earth kingdom

I totally agree with the bending skill aspect of the game. I think it would be a great idea if each bending style had their pros and cons emphasized in a possible game. For example Fire bending would have the most offense and a burn effect. Earth bending would have the best defensive moves and allow you to detect attacks from behind. Water bending would have the best area effect and allow you to immobilize enemies by freezing them as well as heal yourself and your team. Lastly Air bending would have the best speed and evasion, allowing the players to quickly glide and hover to dodge large scale attacks. This is just my idea.

I've said this in relation to other topics, but a story of the second Avatar would be awesome. You would have so many things to discover: your powers, your place in the world, the world itself, the forming of nations, etc. It lends itself perfectly to an RPG. New fans get introduced to the world and what the Avatar is (because the character of the Avatar themselves doesn't even know what the Avatar is), and older fans get to choose what kind of Avatar they want to be on a largely blank canvas considering we don't know much about what happened after Wan's time, besides there being "a" war. It's close enough to a notable time in Avatar history, which makes interesting immediately, but there is enough room to write an unknown story together with a largely unexplored world.

And your actions and advice would influence the way they act as Avatar." You could have a lot of talk about spirituality, morality, the idea of Peace vs Justice. Peace vs Freedom.

I'd actually prefer a Massive open world Avatar game where you don't even play as the Avatar, but get to choose which Nation you would like to start in and your choices at the start of the game dictate which bending ability you have (kinda like the Fable games, where your decisions would have story consequences).
The game would then be like Skyrim and the Witcher 3, where you have to choose which side to take in an up coming war, or for a really difficult path you could choose no sides and have every nation see you as a threat. Certain nations would make for an easier play through, acting as a difficulty setting (for example, the Fire Nation would be easy mode and the Air Nation would be Hard mode). The game mechanics would have a "Skill Tree" system where you need to slowly master your Element to unlock new abilities (for Example, the Fire tree would have its core Fire abilities and skills, but you would also have a "Lightning" tree and a "Combustion" tree), and like games like Jedi Fallen order, once you unlock certain abilities they will allow you to access areas you couldn't before, like a fire ability that lets you boost into the air, or an earth ability that lets you climb up certain walls.

An action rpg is definitely the way to go. A huge open world where you can visit iconic locations as well as new ones. You should meet Oma and Shu as well and help them with their romance. It was never specified when exactly that happened as far as I am aware?
A couple of ideas though - have origins for your avatar. So whichever nation you choose to start in, you then choose whether you are highborn, a street thief, etc. As an earthbender for example, this could determine which ring of Ba Sing Se you were from. Which will also affect how others react to you through the game. Wealthy may not want to deal with a commoner, and the poor may resent you if you come from wealth. Also you should have a spirit animal from your chosen nation that gives you access to certain areas that you can't get to otherwise. Not only will this encourage replayability as you won't be able to see everywhere in 1 go, but will also let you have an animal companion. Could be sky bison, dragon, badger mole, and an eel hound. Badger mole can dig to secret tunnels and caves that you can't access in other games. Eel hound could let you swim to hidden underwater areas, etc. Also, maybe you can only master advanced bending skills of your chosen nation. So lightning, lava, blood bending, and flying. Although being able to do all of them would be incredible.
It would be sooooo good. I don't think I'd ever play another game.

I might be alone on this but I would love an open world game, especially if along side choosing what your character looks like you can also choose your animal guide so exploring is easier. Also if the game is set before any of the other stories you can also play around with the map a little to add some unique touches to the world, a lot can change in just a few hundred years so you can come up with whatever excuse you want to explain why the location no longer exists or maybe you can put this information in an art book. If the art is good and the game is awesome people are willing to pay a bunch of money for art books.
Also if your game is a party system like in a turn based rpg, then a talent tree would be awesome. If you favor one particular element all you need to do is upgrade the abilities of other party members to balance out the team.

i think it would depend on how the combat system works! turn based vs real time, if your party members can learn bending and combat styles and niches unique to them, like if you go down a certain branch of a skill tree in a style of bending.
Lets say earth for an example, if you choose to go down the metal bending skill tree, the lava bending one gets blocked off, and your earth bending party member learns that? or they have their own unique skill trees separate from ours. (yes my example was a clear parallel between bolin and his struggle to learn metal bending vs lava bending) Or any non bending party members learning different weapons.
I also feel that it depends on if you are in combat at the same time as your party members or if it would be more like say Sly Cooper, where different party members are sent on different missions individually.

awhile back now i used to play on this Minecraft server that had a 'Bending' plugin on it. it was nothing *too* fancy, but i really loved it because it was basically an open-world map with different areas to discover, different items to unlock, different scrolls for abilities to work toward, etc. it was very simple in nature, but i found myself wanting more and more every single time i got off; it was addictive.
at first, you picked one of the four core main elements (fire, wind, earth, water), and as you played through the game, there were ways (like fighting other players, fighting other enemies around the map, etc.) to level up and thus get skill points to put towards new skills under your elemental-based branch. it was always super fun to see how every element differed; water would impact the environment by the player and make the water-benders more slippery / hard to hit (no pun intended), wind would make the wind-benders fast, able to fly, and hit opponents quickly or push them back, fire would fire-benders able to have quick and powerful offensive attacks, and earth would make the earth-benders durable, defensive, and good at throwing the opponents off with environmental changes or speed changes.
it sounds a bit complicated, but it was REALLY linear and very fun. not to ramble on more and more, but in case it isn't obvious already... i really enjoyed it. i just really think that THIS is the type of game the Avatar franchise should aim for: an RPG/MMo that is rewarding, has combat with others, lots of replayability, is linear, and allows the players to customize their characters and abilities.
also also, for those who are interested: my favourite aspect of the game was when the four main elements split into sub-branches (you could only pick one), for example, water would be able to get blood-bending abilities, fire would be able to get blue fire abilities, wind would be able to get chi abilites, etc etc. very very neat concept.
im very passionate about Avatar games lol

I agree with you that the world of Avatar is absolutely massive, I'd personally love to pursue a lava bender/earth bender homestead or quest like frame modern earth tribe practices and stuff or really honest the ability to fly like Zaheer to explore the air temples, I'd love to be the air nomad that discovered flight and maybe have something like Hogwarts Legacy's Room of Requirement where we could build and design and decorate our bending arts/styles but I'd like it single player offline experience please no live service maybe multiplayer depending on the style or maybe for a white lotus like functionality to trade and do online quests together but rather have a single player experience.

And for me, a PERFECT example of a game that is a great model for the Avatar game is another creation of BioWare - "Jade Empire". The game I'm writing about is klnda forgotten, so know this: Jade Empire is also set in the asian-like fantasy setting and have a comfortable fighting system, you can use many fighitng styles (at least one of them looking similar to bending), plus you're getting a lot of teammates, which are able to fight alongside you. Go see some gameplay from the game and see for yourself.

So a good single player game if you are playing a previous un-named Avatar, but i would also LOVE an MMO where you are just playing a regular bender from one of the 4 elements, but during the time of an un-named Avatar, or actually then you could be during the time of a named one, I think during the time of Roku, so as the Fire Nation STARTED to take over there can be your conflict. OR during the time of Kyoshi since so many people just love her (I'm one of them) Or During the time of Koruk would be good too, which if the game did well could later evolve into after and the rise of Kyoshi. Koruk was fighting evil spirits, primarily on his own. But he couldn't be everywhere at once. So the player characters could be fighting the smaller incursions that didn't require the Avatar. And after his death since he had spent so much time solo fighting the evil spirits the nations were growing incresingly angtsy toward each other.... could so see conflict both between the nations for pvp and against the evil spirts for pve would be great for a MMO, so to not mess with either of their stories set it between Koruk and Kyoshi, she's too young to help, and Koruk is gone, and that wouldn't mess with the powerrfulness of his sacrifices fighting the spirits alone... once he's gone then the average every day benders would have to fight them, and then even have some of the story be that citizens are finding out what he was secretly doing for them.

Not sure what ever happened to this game but having an avatar themed multiplayer rpg would just be too awesome. There could also be a single player adventure where u do get to be the avatar and use all 4 elements. Similar vibes to ghost of Tsushima and the multiplayer legends mode.

How about this, since this is supposed to be an RPG? The four nations are in a time of waning peace, when conflict could potentially break out between any of them. They all want different things from the Avatar, so decisions you make to help one of them could hurt one or multiple others. Their philosophies at the time each have have pros and cons that by definition conflict with the others, making none of them intended to be good or bad. You can do missions somewhat out of order by traveling to different parts of the world and doing things for different nations, but if you wait too long to support one nation, your actions will change that questline and the path becomes no longer available to you. There are something like 16 possible endings depending on which nations enter the war and which ones you convince to abstain. The game measures a bond with each of them, and increasing your bond with a nation unlocks powerful new upgrades for their respective bending style. This comes by way of your companions, your four mentors from each of the nations, who will only teach you new things once you earn their trust. If you lose them, you permanently lose the ability to progress in that bending style, doubling as difficulty settings for different endings. The worst ending is the hardest to get because you have to do it with almost no upgrades. That way we have twice as much depth with a four-way alignment system and make the player feel the stress of roleplaying trying to balance the unsteady politics of the world, which is the Avatar's actual job, rather than just letting you be mean-spirited and obviously going against the philosophy. There could also be a fifth spirit alignment meter depending on how well you maintain your connection to the spirit realm that also effects the plot

I think you've made some VERY good points. My only concern is that the game would probably need the avatar to become a master of his first/original element, and therefore start with moving onto the second in line, so no matter what element you pick to begin with, you immediately move onto the next in line and that could prove difficult in regards to the enemy/villain. One villain might work really well for a water theme, but might not work out so well as an Earth-type villain. I dunno how else to explain it tonight, lol.

Honestly I'd never considered a turn-based avatar game but it makes a lot of sense.
Bending is such a free-form fighting style that trying to capture it will never work, so taking a more rigid approach would actually help avoid the uncanny valley of it feeling 'not good enough'
On top of that, having a more rigid system kinda works in favour of pre-Aang stories, since bending was a much stricter practice back then. You could then use qi to allow styles to be used with different elements, maybe making the cost cheaper for one you use often, and you could use the mortality slider to empower certain styles (bending the air out of someone's lungs is always an option past a certain level of mastery but the further 'good' you are skewed the harder it is to begin and maintain it)
Honestly though, the best play would be to do what Larian did with D&D but to the Avatar PBTA TTRPG.

Agreed with pretty much all your points except one biggie. My ideal AAA Avatar game would have us NOT playing as an Avatar. It'd be an action RPG where players get to pick their element at the start, which would massively improve replay value (it'd basically be 4 games packaged into one, gameplay-wise) and also make the open world more immersive and easy to traverse as a regular schmoe, while I feel playing as an Avatar would remove players from the world just by nature of the role. This would also replicate the old West, loner vibe that was so great from Ghost of Tsushima. I think it would be awesome to play as a crazy good bender and the "villain" in the story is the Avatar, who based on the player's choices would turn out to be good or evil and stand in the player's way. This would obviously also make for some crazy challenging gameplay and boss fights, as I feel like it would be easy to be overpowered playing as the Avatar.
Better yet, good ol Nick, just make both

  • @ZeroOrLelouch

I like were your going with this idea. Having a character creation similar to games like baldur's gate 3, cyberpunk, starfield etc. The morality system you mention and having a choice system that can affect the playthrough. But what might work a bit better to possibly add the games story to the avatars canon is to not play as a character created avatar but as a avatars companion. That way in the character creation you would be able to choose your characters gender, physical traits, bender or non bender, bending element, martial arts/bending style and a small back story that you could choose from.

    • @AntoineBandele
      @AntoineBandele  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

In my pitch, you could change all of that for an Avatar-created character as well. That's the benefit of setting the game in the middle of the timeline. It could be seen as a "legend" in the overall canon timeline but the broad events would still be "historical" similar to the vibe of Ghost of Tsushima.

  • @1ManRandom
    @1ManRandom 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I feel like your game idea would also work well as a “real time with pause” RPG (think Dragon Age or KOTOR). It’d make it easier for the game’s Team Avatar to actually be depicted fighting as a team than it would in a Ghost of Tsushima-esque fighting game, while also making fights look a little more active than they would if combat were purely turn-based.
I also really like the idea of utilizing a social links system in such a game. It’d be a cool way for the protagonist to unlock special unconventional moves (kinda like how Zuko would incorporate moves from other bending styles into his own bending) and also be the perfect way to have companions unlock unique sub-bending styles like they do in the shows. It’d also open the door for the inclusion of special companion-focused side quests reminiscent of The Tales of Ba Sing Se or Zuko’s journeys with the members of Team Avatar in Book 3.

1000 years before the Tv series is a great idea:
I'd like to pick a nation, tutorial is learning the basics and combinations etc then your life is affected by a few wars, the avatar doesn't seem to be the best at their job and spirits are breaking through, ruining crops and water meaning the nations are going to war with one another.
you are sent to ask the avatar to help and as you journey through the world and are met with issues you can help with while putting yourself at risk or others at risk. as you meet people, who you can use to help people but are at risk of their own life, ending up in a few companions dying because of your decisions while not achieving what you wanted.
the avatar is a lost soul who isn't sure how to help, you take them back but along the way are met with problems other people are having, do you choose to slow down to help them or carry on to help your village? your actions can change how the avatar sees the world and how they go about their avatar business.
end game avatar dies and the spirits start breaking free, war is engulfed and you can fight to stop it, ng you can be avatar in this new world with the consequences of your actions form your last play.

using mass effect as a model could work with some tweaks
also the story could be very easy to write by creating a parallel to roku's and sozin's story
maybe not ending in betrayal(though that would still be an option to maybe start the game's main conflict)
they could be siblings/friends/lovers and the best part is that the betrayal could just be a difference in opinion on how the avatar is meant to act.
you could be a hands off or act when necessary belief while they believe in the ever vigilant peace force that is led astray and is now a "threat" to the world by slowly becoming the evil they sought to destroy
    and boom baby
you have character dynamics to work off of that players can be invested in
you have a conflict that can set up from the jump
you have a personal stake beyond just duty that can end peacefully or depressing af
do you find a way to redeem them?
    do you kill them?
do they find redemption because of you?(indirect redemption or the iroh approach)
are they driven deeper into being more like a bastard(ozai approach to their character)

know what else they could have done: create a new character that you play as that somewhat travels with Aang, Katara and Sokka and depending on which element could decide what backstories you have and those backstories could decide your skills and stats for example for Fire the player could have been a Rebel, colonial or disgraced noble, Air could have been a friend of Aang who went along with him or the sole survivor of a hidden air colony that survived the purge but siad colony was found and destroyed recently to name a few examples. Attack on titan 2 did something like that and in my eyes it was quite good.

Honestly I don’t think avatar even needs to go as far as KOTOR to make a good rpg. I think they could achieve great success with an rpg in a style like Jedi Fallen Order or Jedi Survivor. Character customization and story choices in those games were severely limited when compared to KOTOR, but both still had an interesting, unique, and compelling enough story to keep people interested. A game like that about some mostly unknown avatar like Szeto or Salai would be awesome. Even one about say Kuruk fighting spirits might work, as long as it is an interesting enough story. Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor also have that Ghost of Tsushima style combat system that would be amazing if adapted to bending.

one of the bigger problems i could see story wise, would be that if you were able to pick what element you start of as that would influence the starting element of the previous avatar as well, which also in turn influences their backstories. ofcourse we could either limit the connection the player character has with the previous avatars, OR create 4 previous avatars, for each element, and shuffle their order around depending on the element the player chooses to start of with, there would still be some narative bits that can be hard to solve, but than you would still have the previous avatars to connect with like aang had ruko and korra had aang.
the rest of the starting point could be done very similair to how dragon age origins was done. you would have your own starting point, maybe even 2 per element ( maybe noble and lower class) which influences your character in many ways, story wise, skills, characters one might already know, and atitudes others might have towards the players. you would have a few quests in your origin which would eventually result in sages visiting to reveal one being the avatar.
but also do we WANT to play the avatar? just playing ANYONE in this universe seems fun enough, and you could have just as exciting stories with just as much legendary status, and if the player character would be just any random ordinary bender or even non bender, you could place the story in the time period that aang was frozen, which would have the potential of meeting legendary characters we know and love from the francise in their younger years. we could meet a younger bumi, lu ten and any of the white lotus members in their younger years ( or even general iroh when he was still the crown prince and full pro fire nation, that could be a terrifing enemy)
that or we start of similair to how kyoshi started of not knowing that one is the avatar untill later than usual, which could be at the end of a big moment in game where one is in great danger just to accidentally go into the avatar state.
there are so many fun options honestly

Alright i have somethings i want to see in the game if someone sees this pls comment, or help get it to someone who work there so they could see my ideas plsss:
1: the bending shouldnt be like a few moves or whatever, it should have the abillity to do whatever u want for example (for ps) u press lets say □ and u move the joystick in a specific way so u can earthbend or something cool like that.
2: meet a lion turtle; it said lionturtles were hunted 1000s of years ago and were in that time so or we could hunt one save one or even learn from one it will be really cool.
3: tame animals; we need to be able to tame animals like dragons bisons and earthbedger (sorry i forgot their name).
4: meet sun warriors and meet/learn from ran and shu (again sorry i said the names wrong).
5: go to the spirit world; if we cpuld go to the spirit world either from meditetion or the spirit portal it would be a really cool thing to do.
6: legendary animals; like in games like rdr2 there is some big animals that called legendary, so if theyll do that it would be really cool.
7: ofc they need to do free animals and free world but that allready said...
8: we need to make big life desissions like aang or other avatars
9: we need to be able to choose our own avatar grope and that they wouldnt deside it for us (ectually im down for both ways).
So i think thats it tnx it was really fun to write that... do some of u know how can i share this with the workers/creators?

Agree with what you said regarding the character creation choices (if the player chooses airbening, they could get to choose which temple they grow up in, earthbending, which circle of the city or possibly the dessert village - if the player choses the inner circle, they could be royalty - , firebending, if they're royalty, a military family or "regular" citizen, waterbending, which pole, if they're royalty, a military family, or "regular" citizen), and being able to flawlessly/easily swap between each element mid combat. I would also want to be able to pick my own animal companion. And, while this is very likely not to happen, have around 3 characters to choose from for each element, regarding who would be my different bending teachers, with each having a different teaching style, personality and skill set (having the one you pick be the one that's said to be destined to train you. Then if you want, you could have an all women or all men's team).

Just seeing this video now when it made me realize what my favorite Avatar Video should be
Personally, what i want from an Avatar video game is open world. Sounds cliche to some, or may sound stupid, but hear me out. Obviously, we'd be the Avatar, but we'd get to choose how we start (in poverty or like Aang for example) and which elements we learn in each order. We would be able to make our story comepletely from scratch, whilst having a main story to follow. The game itself wouldnt be about its main directive, it'd be mainly about our own story, what we wanna do and what direction we see about going.
Its just a dream, but it sounds so perfect. I could also see them introducing the past Avatars as well, and yes that includes Korra (fight me, I like that series)
But one man could only dream of it, thank you for taking the time to read this.

I agree with most of your points whole-heartedly. I just wanted to add a classic Bioware game I wish you'd covered in this video: Jade Empire.
It was a follow-up to KotOR, and featured semi real time mystical martial arts combat in a fantasy world based on China (sound familiar?).
Jade Empire had beautiful world design, fun characters, interesting villains, an incredible musical score, and solid voice acting and writing. It was also one of the first major studio games that had gay and no character romance options.
Sadly, it sold poorly, and a sequel was never made. In any case, there are elements of the gameplay and world design that would be a good template for adapting to an Avatar game.

    Completely awesome idea.
Mass Effect and Dragon Age have already outlined the path quite effectively in other areas.
For one's combat and other abilities, an experience point based system would work well. Even though the Avatar can master all four elements, Avatars still favor a particular element. Aang heavily favors air, whereas Korra seems to favor fire due to her aggressive personality.
This could be applied into various martial and nonbending arts, such as the art of the sword, the art of the bow, and various schools of martial arts. It could even apply to completely different forms of expertise, like Asami, Satoru and Sokka's affinity for engineering, as mathematical and mechanical brilliance is a talent requiring in depth training.
I would love to see an Avatar RPG set in the distant past which made use of these and other systems.

If they made my dream avatar game I would want it to play in a past time period as well for the reasons you mentioned. I would love for it to be either an open world online mmo-type game or an open world solo story game. Realtime combat seems more fun to me gameplaywise, since there is so many options for movement in fights with bending. As an mmo I think one should play as a 1 element bender whereas in a story game one could play as the avatar and choose the starting element, beginning the story in the corresponding elements kingdom and progressing the other elements once one visits the other kingdoms.

Thing is, how would one create an avatar in this hypothetical game? No matter when the game is set, the Avatar cycle is still a major consideration. So players would have to play a specific avatar from a specific nation. Sure they would eventually learn other bending styles, but they would likely have no influence over what element they start with - unless choosing an element at the beginning starts the player in a different era? Seems a bit too complicated though.

Spirits Vs Humans would be kind of cool. An alignment system for that where it even affects what types of bending you learn faster.
Leaning towards spiritual alignment makes you learn water and air bending faster and fire and earth for human/physical alignment.
    Just a thought.

I mean the good avatar cant really be turned to the evil side, they are meant to bring balance to the world and them being an evil character doesnt fit...however i think i have an idea for those that want a darker side of that world.
So we know there is an evil counterpart to the good spirit that reincarnates the avatar, we know he can be released as we seen in LOK. I propose there be another time he was released, a time so far in the past or future it has been forgotten about, covered up, or purposefully done. You can choose to play as this evil avatar or the good avatar, as the evil one you're task is to stop the good one at all cost. Starting wars, turning people against one another, even posing as the good one to get people to hate them. You can pretend to be good or genuinely help people if you feel it'll help your endgame of bringing the world to chaos. You grow your power through the game learning the different elements from less than reputable teachers until the final battle between good and evil. Obviously the good ending is the cannon one but there will be an alternative story for the bad ending.
As the good avatar your job is the bring peace to the world and the standard affairs. However we know some past avatars weren't opposed to killing so long as its in the name of bringing balance so on the good side you still have different ways of dealing with conflicts. This way even on the good side you're not stuck as generic good guy and can be dynamic.
Throughout the game you encounter whichever avatar you didn't choose battling with the different elements you've learned up until this point. Obviously you can pick your starting element and you will be able to learn the other in any order, i know it's not the shows/books but we're making a game here so freedom would be nice, so you can change up how you play the game each time. It's open world letting your explore to you're hearts content.
It's just an idea, probably not even a good one either but i figured id give my thoughts...

This is what i had in mind for avatar game:
    - open world game
    - players can choose their origin (air nomad, water tribe, earth kingdom, fire nation)
    - players can unlock sub-bending of their respective element (hidden limited quest)
    - can choose their bending element (or can choose non-bender)
    - the game will randomly choose an avatar among the player every 6 months
    - chosen player will need to master all 4 elements and unlock the avatar state in that time
    - chosen player will have special Avatar Quest
    - there will be main quest for every avatar cycle (if players failed there will be bad consequences to the worldview)

Imagine an avatar that lives with nonbenders and started manifesting other elements right away. This way, the game can make the player choose what bending they start with, leaving out, but not getting rid of, the avatar elemental cycle of fire, air, water, earth.

  • @RogueMastermind
    @RogueMastermind 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well...the biggest problem with doing justice to the Avatar Universe with a AAA game is that it would be super expensive. Imagine a budget in the ballpark of half a million dollars or more - game development is super expensive, especially for a AAA studio, and doing Avatar as a low-budget indie game would be near impossible.
I think a proper Avatar game has a few key elements (ha!) regardless of time period, plot, or story:
    1. Has to include bending! While it definitely should be possible to play as a non-bender, bending is what sets Avatar apart from other similar IPs. And to make bending work and feel like bending, it has to be able to include an insane physics engine that allows for things like bending the environment. Even sticking to more basic bending like Earthbending a shield to block with or just generating air or fire blasts, that's going to be absolutely crazy to build into a game engine. Probably the single craziest system to come close to that scope and scale is the Ultrahand system(s?) from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and that's still decently buggy despite working the vast majority of the time. Genshin Impact's elemental systems do come fairly close to a more basic version of this, but would not be able to handle things like waterbending the water out of vegetation.
    2. A clear direction: Say this theoretical game is an RPG. Is this game going to be open world? Does it tell a great story, as one always seems to do with the Avatar IP? Does the player create their own character, or use a pre-existing/authored character? Are there separate stories told for a bender, a non-bender, or even an Avatar? Does the game offer the same challenges to everyone and then ask the player to create solutions that play off their player created attributes? I guess this question boils down to genre, but regardless of whether this would turn out to be a directed RPG like KotoR or Mass Effect, an Open-World (A)RPG like Genshin Impact or TotK, an Immersive Sim like Deux Ex, or some blend of genres, the genre definitely has to serve the game's core design and direction. Not to mention, the gameplay has to work well too - as an example, earthbending a fortress should be doable for every earthbender while a non-bender might rely on technology to compensate for not being a bender, while an Avatar should be able to combine types of bending for various effects, yet all three character types should feel impactful and important. And that's before we get into spirits and the spirit world, or goofier stuff like playing as a badger mole.
    3. It absolutely has to have the heart of what makes Avatar so incredible, yet translate that into a game. A lot of the current games look (and probably play, although I've never played one personally) like cheap cash grabs that aren't uniquely Avatar; there's nothing that those games do that couldn't be handled better by different IPs. Beat 'em ups have been done dozens if not hundreds of times over the years, elemental powers or not - slapping on an Avatar art style and playing as an Avatar character does almost nothing to differentiate it from any number of better AAA titles. A turn-based Avatar game sounds almost like Pokemon before trying to make it a F2P game with gacha or microtransactions. I think this has the most to do with the mostly incredible writing and world-building, but that comes into conflict with the core of what differentiates video games from movies and television; video games have player agency. And while I don't have an answer to the question, how does a great game respect player agency while keeping the writing good? There's probably a few answers to that among GMTK's videos, but even Mass Effect 3 apparently dropped the ball here.

I've entertained the thought of an Avatar MMO where everybody creates their own character and play on a massive server together. You could choose nation and a few different bender and non-bender classes. Randomly, it would select a very active player to have the opportunity to create an Avatar character. However, this character will only be able to be played until they die. Once that character dies the game selects a new active player to have the opportunity to create the Avatar.
It could also have a passive skill that once a day if they drop below 10% health the Avatar State activates automatically. Cannonically, this would be dangerous because you're low on health and if the Avatar dies in the Avatar State the reincarnation cycle ends. But because this game would take place before ATLA and other characters need the chance to play the Avatar, being in the Avatar State would just make you invincible for its duration. This would help keep somebody from dying too easily or quickly after getting the role.
Also, if a character goes inactive as the Avatar, when they log in they will find that Coe the Face Stealer has killed them. This keeps the Avatar from becoming stagnant in one person's inactive account.

I think outsourcing this game to SloClap Studio would be the best option for a New Avatar game. There is potential to base this game on Roku or any Avatars before him. That way we do not have the Game conflict with the canon set by the show. I think Kuruk would be a great candidate as we can get to know more of his backstory. If they could adapt his fast learning of the elements with gameplay in mind. There are so many ways to unlock new moves as you progress in his Journey. Even though we are told he is a short lived Avatar this would give us a much less grindy game.

There was one flash game that was actually really cool where you could create your own character. I don't remember what it was called, but I remember thinking that I really wanted something like that. I mean I would also like it to have puzzle elements like in Golden Sun where you use the Avatar powers to solve puzzles in the world, such as using wind abilities to reach things you couldn't normally reach, or burning things down with fire, or even creating platforms with water and air to make ice.

    This my Avatar game what i had in my mind;
    1. Built your own character whether your character is an Avatar or not (but could be a teacher for the Avatar or a normal bender only)
    2. Choose your elements Fire🔥, Air🌪, Water🌊, or Earth🪨 (like Hogwarts Legacy choose your house)
    3. Your Avatar can also have an occupation (based on Occupation in the world of Avatar; except for Kyoshi warriors, Dai Li Agents, and Republic City occupation)
    4. Your Avatar could have a romance relationship with your companion or other NPC's until they became your lover (like Fallout 4)
    5. Companions can react and comment on your actions
    6. Your actions could had consequences of affecting your relationship with your companion
    7. Gameplay like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (when in fight) whilst during free roam open world gameplay (like Assassin's Creed), and has RPG game style where you have an option dialogue of what dialogue you choose and making choices (like Fallout: New Vegas)
    8. Side quest where you helping strangers, finding rare and interesting items, solving puzzles, solved a murder mystery, and strange quest, and making choices (mixture of Fallout: New Vegas, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Assassin's Creed: Unity)
    9. You can uses weapons such as swords, axes, spears, bows, and daggers and able to brought multiple weapons, and customize your weapon by changing colors and given an engraving (like Red Dead Redemption 2)
    10. You can costumization your outfits and changing colors + Avatar legacy outfit included (like Assassin's Creed: Unity & Red Dead Redemption 2)
    11. You can buy houses in 4 nation or built your own house in not in the 4 nations (like GTA: Online, Fallout 4, and Minecraft)
    12. You could brought more than one companion. Create your own team Avatar or just a lone wolf Avatar
I actually already made this months ago but all of a sudden my comment was disappeared as if youtube deleted my comment (i'm really upset)

BRO! i was just complaining how there is no good avatar games and then i saw this, mans is speaking FAX!!!! i would love to see a guided but slightly free open world experience, being able to travel the nations and free people under the fire nations rule and also have main missions that will slowly build team avatar! also battles would definitely have to be a action fighting style (not tuned based) where you kind of button mash and can switch which bending you need depending on the enemy, also the story would have to be similar to the original only actions can shift it and give you slightly different endings, like maybe one might end up with Zuko as a villian the whole time because the fight between him and Aang is now personal due to something the player did. If this game is made I dont care the price im preordering DAY 1!!!

Perhaps with the release of the new live action series and the future animated movies, they'll attempt to push for something to happen in the gaming area of things.
The perfect fun ATLA game for me would be a sick classic fighting game in the style of Mortal Kombat/Injustice/Street Fighter. Give me a big ass character select screen, unique Special Attack/Finishing moves designed for each specific character, alternate outfit swap options, and I'm a happy camper. No to turn base, make it take place during Avatar Roku, you can pick which kind of bender you can become. Based on your choices is whether or not you aid the war of the fire nation or rebel against it. Depending on whether you aid the fire nation or not will determine whether you help the firelord fight the avatar, or if you help the avatar fight the fire Lord. An open-world RPG with crazy combinations and substyles that you can learn from each bending form. Like Breath of the Wild meets Sekiro.
