Good job man. The hard part is over. Now that she's yours, you get to part of a very special club of sailboat restorers who give sailboats a second life. All sailboats deserve this, but few get it. here is hoping she meets your requirements for full restoration and that you can get her on the wind sooner than later.
Good on you boys. You will remember this time together as brothers for a long, long time. A tip, get her lifted, cleaned and anti fouled as early as possible. Check all through hull connections, valves and hoses, and bilge pumps /alarms asap. It's a boat, the most important thing is that it floats without a risk.
Might want to get an official survey done on this vessel.. the amount of water damage on the sole/floor, walls, etc... and that rot around the mast, I'd hazard a guess that this ship was a salvage. Not impossible to restore, but this one may easily end up costing more to fix than buying a newer vessel in better condition. Either way best wishes to you both, and good luck with the project!
.... watching others create & build like l am but l do love the joy it brings to the creator when they know they did something well. Masculine skills are admirable .
I like watching DIY projects with boats. Good luck and keep your spirits up. I’ll subscribe to watch your progress. Reread all the feedback so far, pay attention to a lot of the advice about assessing your boats safety and seaworthiness. Then plan your repairs for safety and affordability, and have fun. Major “restoration” is for later on. It’s a good sign to see your Dad is on board with it.
As project boats go, I've seen worse. Just cleaning it up a bit you can probably double your money if you wanted to sell it; and if the engine works you could at least triple it. Make sure you find all the thru holes and open/close them to make sure they aren't seized. Best of luck!
Oh my goodness ! , best of luck and I hope she gives you both an eventful and exciting future .Kudos to you for showing the ol girl some well needed love.
When on dry land, please hit all copper/brass/lead/.. fittings where the boat discharges or inlet fittings from the inside of the boat with a hammer perpendicular to the side of the fitting, along the line of the hull. After that you will know how close you came, or not at all, of sinking the boat.
I'll add to immediately ID all thru hull fittings below waterline and including those 2 feet above waterline. Then secure a Wood bung, plastic sheet square of 1ft square, and a foam plug such as a mini nerf-like football or foam beach float. Then install a high water bilge alarm. I subscribed and look forward to your journey of discovery as you dig into this old girl.
Nothing wrong with that boat that gasoline and a lighter won’t take care of for you! More seriously, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Start with the deck and roof. If you don’t address that first it’ll come back to haunt you. It’s also the biggest potential project sinker.
I did the same thing, bought a boat fixed it up, been sailing her quite a bit, now back in the yard fixing her up more. You have a good deal of work to do to her, but if you are able to get her back up to speed you will have a nice steel boat on your hands.
What a great project boys. Congratulations. I can see many hours of work, fun, excitement and satisfaction ahead of you. What a healthy way to spend your days. I'm all for it and can't wait to watch your journey. I'm hooked already. Love the steak scene as well. Yum!
The longest journey starts with the first step. I'm sure you'll get the boat ship-shape. It's already looking like a liveaboard. We'll done, I think you've got a good buy. I'm also looking forward to the rest of your journey. Good luck.
congratulation. when recording, please slow down on swinging from one side of the view. I like show like your, but, the fast move. beside that, i be looking for your next video
If you can afford a yard or have a place to park it on land or in a big shed then get it out of the water. Get the hull clean and repareert the decks, get it painted, clean all the gear etc. etc. But get it watertight. Looks great for the money you paid.
Looks like you got a terrific deal!. You can always pitch a tent on deck to sleep in while you are working and sorting out what is below deck. Cheers!. Best wishes. I think on a ketch the sails will cost twice as much as there are two of them but when sailing looks very nice. My favorite
Good luck to you both and congratulations on your boat.... what an amazing adventure. Learn new skills.... Needs to be more young men doing creative things 👏👏👏
You better get a really, really, really, really great job. Boat = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and then more $$$$$$$$$$!!! Oh yes, don't forget about the time, time, time. Good luck man!
If you have two sets of 12 volt batteries, you can isolate them from each other and charge them on separate controllers. If their voltages are similar, you can connect both controllers on the same solar panels. Batteries don't like to be discharged. Cut back your draw during cloudy spells.
@@TheBrookeBrothers There is nothing wrong with ferro yachts just dont let water into the mesh matrix of the hull if you find rust fix asap good luck !
BoyZ, I agree with Haladmer, to get an official survey to see what you’re - really - into. I also agree that it is a hella, hella! boat for five grand but, from experience I can tell you that a $600 survey, might save you $5000 a week.
The seas dont curve, if a boat dissapears in the distance out of view it is not because it is going over a curve, if you pull out a telescope and bring the boat right back into your vision. That wouldnt be possible it was actually going over an actual curve
It might have been an interesting video. I did start to enjoy the content but felt sick with you moving the camera around so fast. Keep it still in one place and film.
a budget of at least 30k.Yes check the sea cocks . What is the condition of the engine ? go and look at all the other channels and see whats involved.Sorry for my negative comments .
Come on boys your going to be sailors ? first things first, the kitchen is the Galley, the bedrooms are cabins and there are books available with nautical terms I suggest you purchase one, and then all yachties will then understand your Jargon?? look forward to following your adventures. Cheers and fair winds, Mick
Stop whipping the camera around. It's hard to watch. But great luck, lots a work to do. Looks like you will need to spend about 100k US dollars, to get that boat anywhere near usable. How much did you pay for it, year and make?

ya the mast was just one of my main concearns too from the rot around the ceiling and the stay lines.
Just take it out and sail it in strong winds and see what happens
I think you did good even if it needs a lot of work, ignore negative comments most of them are just jealous because they sit in their couch all day

Congrats young man on your new sailing vessel! I will look forward to following the refitting postings!
Brilliant video, I am excited to see the transformation of this beautiful vessel.
Good job Sol, really looking forward to seeing this come to life. What a great clean up in just a couple of days

It would be funny if the previous owner used celestial navigation.
🤣🤣
On the upside, it probably didn't circumnavigated the world 😊
What an amazing adventure this is going to be... Bloody good steaks too...
You mentioned 55' Ketch but What name brand and model is the boat? I would like to review the specifications of the boat.
Congrats on your purchase ! what make is she ? and what is she made of ?, good luck on your rebuild journey just subed to watch your rebuild cheers
Hi Trinescape thanks for the support. It’s made from ferrocement, the make is a Sea Breaze.

check the deck especially around the mast and deck fittings spongy means rotten. check the seacoxks work old boats sink because of them.
'I bought a boat form a flat Earther...' they obviously didn't take it past the horizon then?
At least not beyond.

Na, don't waste your money have a drink down at the pub to cool off after you spend a long day fixing her up.
We are pulling for you young Lads!! go get em!!
Sheesh. Woulda haggled a tad more lads. Someone unloaded this on you unfairly.
Lovely boat, good luck
Lots of us sailors know instinctively that water is flat.
🇦🇺Hi guys, congratulations. Where are you, roughly ?. You are making me dizzy with the camera. Looking forward to your videos
When i first looked at what you are about to do but after the initial clean up didn't look to bad but as someone said get a survey done. 😀

He obviously never sailed it, 20 miles over the horizon and he would have been shocked.

Looks like a tremendous amount of work. The deck seems to be rotted out, specifically around the mast. Best of luck!
Bit of love and care later she’ll be looking good😅
