Avoid this MENTAL error from the baseline

  • There are two main types of errors. Mental errors, and physical errors. Physical errors are understandable. Mental errors are inexcusable.
    One of the killer mental errors is missing in the net from behind the baseline. In this video I share my best advice for choosing a target to avoid the net, while also throwing in a few technical tips for lifting the ball above the net.

    This video was a godsend for me. It's one thing to drill hitting the ball higher and with more topspin, but I'm embarassed to admit that it never occured to me to aim higher than my intended target on all baseline groundstrokes. Instead of my moments of inconsistency landing balls in the net like before, they turn into hotshots now, and the "normal" shots aimed higher are still effective. You turned my inconsistency into an actual tool on the court 😂

    Something really cool in the way you transmit and express ideas and info on tennis . I've watched pretty much all the TH-cam tennis channels and you have a balance and casualness and relaxed but convincing style. 👍⚡ Keeping that pro vibe of yourself but speaking for everyone! Clarity!
    Thanks a lot for the content!

    For as accomplished as you have been in your career, you recommend the drop-hit for self practice. That’s how I taught myself topspin, just like you dropped and brushed up on the back of the ball. I did it repeatedly with hoppers of balls until the swing through the “strike zone” was absolutely grooved. Then, when I practiced or played against a moving ball, I only needed to think of my feet keeping their distance to the side of the ball to produce that same strike zone every time. I really like how you break down the technical so cleanly and simply to see and understand. Thank you for sharing and for keeping things simple and real.

    I live in Japan and have been playing tennis for just over three years now. My wife and her tennis friends finally convinced me to join them. Since my Japanese is far from fluent, I've relied on TH-cam to get me this far (the people with whom I play often compliment me on my progress, and more and more often, I kick their butts, especially in the past month or so). Here's my point--I have watched dozens and dozens of TH-cam tennis channels and coaches, and likely several thousand videos. I found your channel only recently, and in my opinion, you are surely at the top of the pyramid.
    I've taken in more "useful" information from you in a single month than I have from all those previous channels, coaches, and videos combined. And yes, I am absolutely serious! I even opened an Instagram account, so I could follow you there. I added your podcast too. Yours is the only Instagram channel and the only pod I tune in to (at least for tennis). I hope to see your numbers swell--as long as my opponents remain ignorant of you (their English is even worse than my Japanese). I wish you well, and I sincerely thank you...

    I've tried to play tennis for many years, and I have fed myself balls from the baseline for hours at a time, and I still cannot get any appreciable amount of topspin no matter what I try. "Fortunately" also I have little pace so my balls can still drop in. Rarely hit into the net.

Im not exactly sure how to hit the ball hard with forehand and keep it in mid range height without lining the ball. Any suggestions? I have been learning along the way with my daughter, who made the junior high team.Thanks in advance!

  • @rsh8057
    @rsh8057 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Thanks for the video. When playing doubles, especially on return of serve, how do you adjust your target range over the net compared to singles? Or suppose in singles you have to hit a passing shot and are trying to dip it low?

    • @StokkeTennis
      @StokkeTennis  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course you want to keep the ball a little lower at times, but not at the risk of missing in the net. So if you have great control, aim lower. If you don't, aim higher and use variance to your advantage!

  • @CR4WLFC
    @CR4WLFC หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    If you never done this its really hard to mentally stay disciplined and hit aggressive with margin like you’re telling us to do for a whole match. I have a pretty flat stroke i can blast some fun winners with it but obviously i am not good enough to hit that over and over again. I played a match this weekend where i would just lose games by hitting multiple errors in the net. I quickly regrouped but there’s always this little voice that tells you now take on this very low percentage ball down the line.
