"Elvis was a hero to most but aint never meant 💩 to me. Straight up racist, that sucker was. Simple and plain mother-f him and John Wayne" For 1990, that line is brolic.
@iluvdissheet People have been yelling fight the power and F the police for centuries...... That's why I would consider this as impactful as kendrick. When have we heard an artist call out a bunch of other artists by name ?
Jeremy‘s argument makes sense to me. The verse wasn’t impactful because of a direct big blowup response, but it was impactful because it was the ember that lit the fire for a whole ton of shit throughout the next decade of hip hop, including the craziest dismantling of a massive popstar we’ve ever seen. Many of the other moments you all discussed would never have happened if it weren’t for that one single verse. Other verses may be more memorable, or may have been bigger in the moment, but I can’t think of any that had so much influence on so much hip-hop history for such a long period of time.
I mean every 1-2 years they would talk about this verse and now 2024 still talking about it, That should be enough to understand it was in fact impactful
Well duh it caused the GOAT to battle and win Drake I’m speaking about. Because he won based on BARS. Not commercial goofy song. Plus Drake is the *GOAT* everybody talks about him. He seems to be more popular now than he ever was.
Lol, Drake did not win and he's not more popular than ever. He's dropped 10 songs since the battle and they've all flopped. Drake has clearly lost popularity. His entire catalogue went down 5% after the battle. Drake also did not have better bars either. Kendrick has bars and Easter eggs still being broken down from this battle right now. @@dee27206
I hate the use of "moments." A moment just passes by. We have been continually discussing this verse for the last 11 years now. That is not a moment, that verse is Timeless. DJs think that just because they don't play the records we aren't listening. They are so self-centered and that's why they are shocked when a battle ends up different than they expect.
I think the Control verse was the stone that skipped across the pond whose ripples evolved into tidal waves that crash into us with Not Like Us. On some butterfly effect type beat Do you credit the stone for something the wave did 10+ years later? I think so
Damn right!!!! I still bump it to this day and it gets me amped up!!! It’s a classic song and the song is classic itself and everyone did their verse on the song!!!
Its definitely in that conversation. Even outside of Jeremy's point, how many rap songs do you know got mass rappers responding to you even though they weren't mentioned? Symba was just freestyling to it a few months ago and anytime Kendrick does something people go back to the control verse on youtube. Thats impact fr
Jeremy couldn't argue his points well. Dj Hed is bugging. Name one verse in Hip Hop history that had a whole coast (East) running in shambles; I'll wait! Every rapper (hyperbole) was running to the studio after Control dropped. That's impact. Look at the ripple effect it had on the rap community.
Yes it seems theyre think of most popular or something. I genuinely dont know how Nothing But a G Thang is more impactful than Control but it was definitely more popular.
The most impactful verse changes with generations and locations. It's the ones that give birth to transformation. It's a good question for hip hop artists and fans alike. But the answers will be as diverse as those who answer.
Jeremy is on point I'm with him on this one. That verse ignited hip hop and led to another reignite when hip hop sales and interest was dwindling. It directly led to this great battle.
Control is a butterfly fluttering it's wings in 2013 that caused a category 5 hurricane in 2024. But we so rarely know the little moment to cause a big one it is almost hard for us to evaluate this sort of thing, because small moments are so rarely recorded. I get the point Jeremy is trying to make.
Jeremy is right. The control vers was the stone that led to this beef. But in de middle was a planty of other vers which is also very hard. But Kendrick know that Drake gone bite on the " like that" vers. He thought that this Kendrick is not the same Kenrick of 12 years ago.😂 But the boogie man thought "now it's time to finnish this MF for ones and for all"
BIG KRIT needs some respect. His Mt. Olympus response was the best I heard while still pointing to the fact that Kendrick sees him as a peer but the world still puts southern rappers in a box. Genius artist next to Kenny. Go listen to him!
@6:36 Man Kendrick must saw blood after that interview. Drake's words now haunts him with 'Not Like Us'. Even white kids in the suburbs know that song word from word.

DJ Hed minimized the impact of Kendrick's Control verse (perhaps rightfully so) but then proceeds to exalt Snoop's verse on Ain't Nuthin But A G Thang? Lol... I'm puzzled. Snoop's verse is legendary and classic, but how is it the most impactful verse in hiphop history, compared to hundreds of other dope rap performances? C'mon brah.

Recency bias is real Also, I’d argue the opening to “Rapper’s Delight” is the most impactful verse ever as it’s believed to have kick-started the entire hip-hop genre.
