@@StephenChapman A re-upload would be great, would love to be able to see the code you're explaining without having to replicate the steps with this weird Minecraft knock off game :') By the way, loving the series so far, always wanted to learn more about Cheat Engine and how memory works in games in general, but Cheat Engine's integrated tutorial has always lost me at "Find the pointer of the pointer of the pointer of the pointer" lol. Really appreciate the explanations, which almost every other tutorial videos on Cheat Engine lack
Man you're a life saver. No other tutorial video has ever explained the debugger this good. They just said "this here writes value to this.... yaydda yada" and leaves assembly illiterates (like me) hanging worse than a barrel full of vodka. Thanks for taking your time to explain thoroughly :)
I was confused by many other tutorials but this one actually helped me understand instead of providing what is basically a tutorial for one specific game.
Just a tip, @19:42, any values that appear in brackets in cheat engine mean "dereference". So for example MOV eci, [ecx + 8] This operation takes the address of ecx and add an offset of 0x8 (ecx + 0x8) to get a new address (which is an address that contains another address: a pointer). Then dereference that pointer, meaning "read the value at this new address" (this value from the dereferenced pointer can hold a value or another address). After that it moves that resulting value into eci (which once again can be an another address, or just a value). Keep that in mind!
Yeah, I made it a point to mention dereferencing quite a bit in subsequent videos once I learned about the terminology! I made a video a couple of years ago where I dive deep into memory, instructions, terminology like "dereferencing", how/why CE works with its AutoAssembler, and more: th-cam.com/video/L1zfhmTyVGo/w-d-xo.html

Not trying to be rude but even at 1440p I still find the clarity bad . I just wonder if you have noticed this also . Not sure why being it will allow 1440p but its hard to see the text man .
Kind of. =) You can't directly address "E" (you have to use bitwise instructions or the stack if you want to modify/access "E"), and CX is like saying CHCL. That said, the only applicable mnemonics are ECX, CX, CH, and CL. That's 32-bit, though. Moving up to 64-bit, you then have R prefixed, so you have the following: RCX, ECX, CX, CH, and CL. They're all just different sections of the same thing (a register). RCX would be like your whole body, head to toe; ECX would be from your waist to your feet; CX would be from your knees to your feet, CH would be from your knees to the middle of your shin, and CL would be from the middle of your shin to your feet. It's all part of the same thing, but specifying any one of them singles out a particular section. For instance, imagine someone wrote one long number across your body from head to toe. Instead of saying "I want to change the numbers that are written from the middle of their shin down to their foot," they could just say, "I want to change the numbers at CL." Likewise, instead of saying "I want to change the numbers from their knee to their foot" or "I want to change the numbers at CH and CL," they could just say, "I want to change the numbers at CX." Here's an image of all the addressable sections of x64 general purpose registers (as opposed to purposed registers like EIP, the flags register, and many others you'll likely never need to worry about): i.ytimg.com/vi/zRqLU_AxNdU/maxresdefault.jpg
must be different for my game, somehow. i changed what you said and the value is changing visibly on the initial search! but its not changing the value in game. any thoughts?
when I click on find out what writes to this address in some games it gives me this " couldn't attach the debugger to this process. you could try to open the process using the processpicker and try that. if that also doesn't work check if you have debugging rights " anyone knows how can I solve this?
Yeah, I'm going to be rebooting this series in the near future. I'm significantly more knowledgeable and better suited to teach now than I was in these videos from a couple of years ago.
can you help me whit something i didn't watch all the video because my head blowed up so i just do find what writes to the address and i clicked replace and i replace the code whit something don't work and the value didn't change not but after sometimes things goes crazy and crashes a lot so i said this okay i just need to return the code and the game will start normal again but this was the problem now the value is stopped to change and i editing in cheat engine don't work so i am stuck here what i do ? please help me out :"(
Could you do a video on how to do the same on bluestacks mincraft pe. I tried to change the value of and container and it didn't freeze it at the value i set it as.
Can you please make a video how to do this on old school runescape i tried following but runescape has allot more windows they use please help it's to advance to do my self without help.
How would you go about dealing with MMORPGs, like Monster Hunter Frontier, that kick you out of the game when you change something? For example, if I changed the amount of a certain item in my item box from 1 to 999, I have to switch location, but after I do that, the game kicks me out, and when I log back in, I am back with the item I modified being back at its original value of 1. It's like it doesn't save. Is there a way to prevent the game from kicking you out like this and to keep your modified items?
Shawn Faris well... MMORPGs and basically all online games dont store data in your personal computer... it stores it in a server... so you cant modify a value that doesn't exist in your computer, right? you might be asking if the value is not stored in my computer what is this value that is being showed to me in cheat engine knowing that it looks like the value that i want to change... well this is not the value itself it is just a display of the actual value that you have and that is stored in the server... so its not the actual value its just a display... hope I've made things straight to you
Shawn Faris Check this thread out; it discusses the fundamental element of hacking online games -- packet modification: forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=103473
kinda confusing now since now for some reason it is showing mov [r13+08],r9w instead of the whole ESI and EAX thing... :/ Edit: Just found out that the reason for this is that I'm using a 64bit only.. but its so dam confusing now

You intentionally kept the first 4 "Container" as 1 byte

There is no real way to know. Just search for "All"

Is there any assistance you can give for the Witcher 1?
Trying to get this to work for The Tribez game for Windows 10 but no luck.
At the CPU's registers, could you also say that the order is E,CH,CL ?
Instead of saying "I want to change the numbers that are written from the middle of their shin down to their foot," they could just say, "I want to change the numbers at CL." Likewise, instead of saying "I want to change the numbers from their knee to their foot" or "I want to change the numbers at CH and CL," they could just say, "I want to change the numbers at CX."
Here's an image of all the addressable sections of x64 general purpose registers (as opposed to purposed registers like EIP, the flags register, and many others you'll likely never need to worry about): i.ytimg.com/vi/zRqLU_AxNdU/maxresdefault.jpg
Ok, thanks for that explanation and the image! It helps so much!
Structure dissect wouldve shown you all the value aswell.
How to select the write lines when we have a online game?
How to watch on hd? Is there any other links to this vids
Everytime I try this the game crashes. DOes this still work or is it me who is doing something wrong :)?
THANK YOU
must be different for my game, somehow. i changed what you said and the value is changing visibly on the initial search! but its not changing the value in game. any thoughts?
when I click on find out what writes to this address in some games it gives me this " couldn't attach the debugger to this process. you could try to open the process using the processpicker and try that. if that also doesn't work check if you have debugging rights " anyone knows how can I solve this?
pure awesomeness, thx
Emm, EAX-EIP ARE general purpose registers. Just so you know.
Yeah, I'm going to be rebooting this series in the near future. I'm significantly more knowledgeable and better suited to teach now than I was in these videos from a couple of years ago.
@@StephenChapman You definitely should, it will be a pro series!
can you help me whit something i didn't watch all the video because my head blowed up so i just do find what writes to the address and i clicked replace and i replace the code whit something don't work and the value didn't change not but after sometimes things goes crazy and crashes a lot so i said this okay i just need to return the code and the game will start normal again but this was the problem now the value is stopped to change and i editing in cheat engine don't work so i am stuck here what i do ?

How would you go about dealing with MMORPGs, like Monster Hunter Frontier, that kick you out of the game when you change something? For example, if I changed the amount of a certain item in my item box from 1 to 999, I have to switch location, but after I do that, the game kicks me out, and when I log back in, I am back with the item I modified being back at its original value of 1. It's like it doesn't save. Is there a way to prevent the game from kicking you out like this and to keep your modified items?
Shawn Faris well... MMORPGs and basically all online games dont store data in your personal computer... it stores it in a server... so you cant modify a value that doesn't exist in your computer, right? you might be asking if the value is not stored in my computer what is this value that is being showed to me in cheat engine knowing that it looks like the value that i want to change... well this is not the value itself it is just a display of the actual value that you have and that is stored in the server... so its not the actual value its just a display... hope I've made things straight to you
That makes sense. Thank you! :)
You're welcome :)
Shawn Faris Check this thread out; it discusses the fundamental element of hacking online games -- packet modification: forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=103473
Stephen Chapman Awesome! Thank you! :D
kinda confusing now since now for some reason it is showing mov [r13+08],r9w instead of the whole ESI and EAX thing... :/
Edit: Just found out that the reason for this is that I'm using a 64bit only.. but its so dam confusing now
thanks a lot
Hi can you help me transfer the address to c++ and make it a dll
Mr chapman , Why don't you try to do this in an emulator?
Thanks
