Scolds Sonic for going insane mode, gets out of prison cell by himself just to prove a point, his spaceship is not powered by chaos emeralds and can still somehow follow Tails' spaceship around, took the time to make a machine for Chris to return home without anyone knowing, tried to give a little nice push to help Tails shoot Cosmo. Truly a Dr. Gigachad.
@@leociresi4292I know this is 5 months late but you're right Shadow saved everyone like 3 times in this series with near life ending Chaos Controls but somehow lives. I think he's kinda broken in Sonic X tbh cuz he 1 shotted sonic in like every fight except for their super form fight.
@@ItxukiYT that's the thing tho. He isn't called the ultimate lifeform for nothing. He was created by Robotnik to be a more perfect version of Sonic that has complete access to chaos control and all his powers. Like he can literally teleport which Sonic cannot do. His power is so great he wears the inhibitor rings to keep his powers under control.
The whole entire deal with humans in sonic universe is depressing compared to there own universe. Honestly the final deaths of them remind me of the gravemind scene in halo CE.
Major respect to the writers for making their own original story after the Adventure Arc, and to bring some much action and emotions into it. Especially with the scenes with Molly and Cosmo's sacrifice.
The series was cancelled after season 2 in Japan due to low ratings and sonic not being very popular in Japan, this third season was requested by 4kids for direct to dvd yet it is really dark.
Cosmo's sacrifice was kind of unnecessary though, to the point where it's a misstep... I know that's not the most popular take, but objectively Tails' character development peaked in episode 73 when he risked his life to protect her. All that killing her in that manner really served to do was return things to the status quo at the end of the series and more/less regress Tails, something that the games would go on to do for decades after this series ended, to the point where Frontiers calls out this fact. Aside from the sapling at the end, this season caused absolutely no real change. And they had creative control over it. And yes, I know there were plans to bring her back in season 4 of Sonic X before the show was canceled by the production company (NOT Sega, contrary to popular belief), but the fact is that never happened. We instead got one of the most depressing endings to a Sonic series ever, made even more depressing by the fact that it ended ambiguously (at least in the Japanese version it did; in the 4Kids version she's just dead, which is ironic for that company; you'd think it would be the other way around). And it ended in a way where it was as if Season 3 never took place. What SHOULD HAVE happened is Tails goes Super, and each of them takes out a head. Three heads, three Super characters. It just makes too much sense. And yes, I know, Season 4 would have done something like this (apparently they were going to fight some other force that attacked Green Gate before Lucas and the others became Metarex). But again, they can SAY what was going to happen all they want, but it would be FAR better if they could SHOW it instead.
@@justinarzola4584 SEGA requested the 3rd season/2nd series themselves due to the show's sucess overseas. Also Japan never even got a direct to DVD release for S3. It only got a streaming service release (just to promote the game Sonic Chronicles) before the TV airing in 2020.
@@Oneforus21111 It's kind of like what happened with the US and the final season of Sailor Moon. People used to say that Cosmo wasn't popular in Japan. But it wasn't even at all the case. She wasn't popular because people in Japan didn't KNOW about her until a few years ago. Now not only DO they know about her, but apparently there are alot of Japanese people that like her, and with bronies latching onto her character as of a couple years ago (this is a big deal; like them or hate them, bronies get things done), there is definitely a resurgence in popularity. And I don't mean a little resurgence. I mean a whole fandom that wants her back to the point where there are petitions to bring her back in some capacity. And at least one of them was signed by several people that are directly involved with Sonic, including Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails' current VA) and Ian Flynn (the person in charge of the IDW comics and also one of the main people in charge of the games). Cosmo is still extremely popular. There's a reason that I keep mentioning that she is the single most requested character in the history of the franchise. If Sega wants money, they should really be paying attention to this.
As I said in the previous upload, I like how this arc actually made Chris somewhat likable and useful. He's no longer a whiny kid who clings to Sonic like he's the only friend he has. He's grown up, literally being an adult in a child's body, and his inventions and plans help Sonic and his friends significantly. And when he's forced to choose between helping his friends and getting what he wants, he chooses wisely and saves the day.
“He’s no longer a whiny kid who clings to Sonic like he’s the only friend he has. He’s grown up, - and his inventions and plans help sonic and his friends significantly.” That’s literally just Tails’ character, so at that point why even have Chris?
So he was basically Tails. Now don't get me wrong. I have no problem having a human character in Sonic. In fact, some of my older fanfics had human characters in them. But they shouldn't have just made Tails 2.0 with him. At least give him a personality that's different from the other characters. Hell, just do the same thing with him that they did with Takato in Digimon Tamers.
@@SBaby kinda But also no It’s like the difference between a microbiologist and a geneticist Chris: personal sized equipment and energy efficiency Tails interpersonal technology (mostly vehicles but he can do more) high intensity energy management and exotic material usage
Cosmo is my #1 favorite character in all of Sonic media. She's a fine example of this trope: no matter how traumatic your past was, someday you will find the strength to rise up from it and do great things.
When I was younger, I thought that when Sonic Adventure 3 would come out - it would be based on the Metarex Arc. I literally thought that Sonic Heroes happened in that timelapse where Chris gets older and becomes a scientist of his own and before the Metarex Arc.
I honestly think there should be a game adaptation of the Metarex Arc. You could do so much with the concept, especially with the Planet Egg Gimmick of Worlds being changed depending on if they have their planet egg or not, leading to very different Act 1 and 2's.
@@BigFearedBalloon I'm making a fanfic about, although in my version, I'm not sure of I want to keep the planet eggs. The Chaos Emeralds being sought after by the Metarex is enough motivation for the plot, adding a time limit of gathering another set of mcguffins was really unnecessary and is just tension that goes nowhere. When was the fact Sonic's planet's Planet Egg being stolen actually mattered after it happened? You can just, cut that out and tension would be still be high enough.
Always adored this saga. It calls back to the first theme in Sonic - nature vs. technology. Also, it has one of THE best lines in Sonic X, spoken by Sonic himself to Dark Oak while he dreamt under the still waters of Planet Aquarius: “I run home because everyone’s waiting for me.”
I’m just baffled they never adapted this into a game. The story is so well done and everyone gets a moment to shine. Tails and Cosmo are great together and individually. I love the growth that they go through. Plus, those scenes at the end where we see the seed that Tails planted along with Chris flying away in the teleporter are just…amazing.
I guess you are right, but this doesn't deal much with Shadow's past or a quirky story with teams of characters going through an adventure that pit them against Metal Sonic. I see some resemblances in some parts of the plots, but I guess it could still be worth having a game based on this in the upcoming years. It will definitely be a change of pace to continue Frontiers and the movies' impact. Some things need to be adapted like the fact that there will be no Chris, and perhaps Sage or some newer characters and plotlines could be inputted into the arc for continuity reasons.
Should have been one. Something in the style of Frontiers now that it exists but with a touch of Dynasty Warriors... Trashing massive armies of Metarex as Shadow would be immensely satisfying.
Tails and Cosmo relationship was wholesome and heartbreaking at the end. However, I’m glad it exists. They made each other stronger. Also, this is the best version of Tails out of any media. You know when ever I see them together it makes me happy. Our Fox boy was growing and experience true love. I wish we had a season 4 with Tails recovering from Cosmo’s death and maybe Cosmo returning. However, their relationship and love that plant and animal life working together makes something beautiful 💚🧡
I'm actually writing two afterfollowing seasons for Sonic X that feature 3 fictional languages of mine. No kidding! In Knuckles's/K’íbuɂkisiŀ mother tongue, K’ibts’olsiŀéx ʔāséx: “¡Visphalí xunéx qaɂúl!”
The Seed that Tails cares for was confirmed to be 1 of Cosmo's Children for the rebirth of the Seedrians as a species & as such wouldn't actually be Cosmo. The only way Cosmo would return is through Flashbacks or a potential retelling of the Metarex Saga in comics, live action movie universe, etc.
@@volvagianintendo6465 Cosmo's own words before she died confirmed that didn't they? We really should have gotten more seasons of Sonic X. At least we saw Tails still caring for that seed in Chronicles.
Tails blaming Sonic during his breakdown was always such a powerful moment to me, really makes it human Meanwhile in the dub he just goes "She was my friend and I miss her :("
Season 3 gave us another arc where Eggman, Rouge, and Shadow are a Team, something that the games never did explore again. It's honestly a trio that I miss and wished we saw more of. Their objectives were never totally in line -- Rouge in particular is a bit of a wild card -- but they had a certain amount of respect for each other and an interesting dynamic to boot. Everyone -- even Eggman’s -- sense of morality got genuine chances to shine.
@@MrDarthCIS Oh, absolutely! Omega is a thrill and a half. Though, admittedly, he would ultimately sent Eggman on his way. 😂 There's only room for ONE power type in Team Dark, thank you! Honestly, I'd love to see this play out.
I rooted so hard for Cosmo and Tails when I was into this show. Amy’s rant at the end of the fortune tellers episode was hilarious and ironically did a great job highlighting how wholesome those two were. Also low-key loved Cosmo’s design in that she resembles Gardevoir, only further exacerbating my childhood confusion that Gardevoir wasn’t a Grass type
I literally cried at a 1 hour summary of the plot. I can only imagine being inconsolable had I watched the entire season in full, aching for every new episode. Hanging on the edge of tomorrow, from the works of yesterday. (Hey!)
i remember watching sonic x every saturday morning up until the end when i was a kid, and especially how i felt about cosmo saving everyone and the fact that tails had to be the one to push that button, it was an interesting feeling of distraught
Probably the saddest thing about it is that Sonic and Tails never interact in the final episode. This really implies that while they still work as a team against Eggman that they are no longer friends.
Funfact, Forestation, is a real anomaly, where all of Earth’s trees and plants pollinate simultaneously, (Mid April to Mid June, allergy season) due to global warming.
It really is crazy just how popular Cosmo was because of this. I'm damn surprised Sega didn't capitalize on this and do more with her character. She probably would've been really marketable. Sega, you're sitting on a gold mine here. Do something with it.
@@SBaby Not just with Cosmo, with a lot of great characters that they choose to ignore, like Fang, Bark, Honey, Marine, Metal Knuckles, hell, even Cream is not getting used as much nowadays.

The English dub ruined this show but it got really bad this season. Instead of that girl getting shot out of the sky in the dub she just leaves her people to their fate. So they turned her into a coward. Things like that obscure what this story is trying to tell. Sonic X is criminally underrated as a whole but especially this arc. I noticed the re-upload.
This anime made me understand how the original DBZ dub fans feel I know they messed it up, but I love the voice cast almost too much to care. I would ask for a DBZ Kai equivalent to Sonic X, but I doubt they would bring the voice actors back.
@@HazeX2 Speaking of the old DB dubs it is insane to me people claim the original Texas based dub is better than Kai. Like are those people incapable of hearing superior audio, voice acting and dialogue?
Always wondered why Rogue decided to drop Chris into a chasm in this season. Did she know Knuckles was down there to catch him? I know Rogue isn't a necessarily good person, but I never pictured her actively letting someone die
Boy, you wouldn't like her in the mid-2000s Archie Sonic comics, specifically the Sonic Universe story "Treasure Team Tango." Long story short, a bunch of characters are after the Sol Emeralds, and Rouge is one of them. And she is made aware by Blaze that the Sol Emeralds are responsible for keeping the Sol Dimension alive. When the Emerald is found, what does Rouge do? She tries to take it. And even when told that Blaze's world would *DIE* without the Sol Emeralds, she still tries to take it. It's only at the end of the story when Shadow puts his foot down and says to let it go that she reluctantly agrees. Bear in mind, Rouge had prevented Sonic's doppelganger, Scourge, from killing Knuckles' own father, saying "We do what it takes, but we don't kill." Hypocrite, much?
@@sonicstar917 To be fair, the Archie comics were... well inconsistent... The comics never met a retcon they didn't like, and introduced a mechanic into the universe strictly to give them an excuse to retcon anything whenever they wanted to. And I know that some of it was because of a certain artist, but not all of it was because of him, and they kept using it afterward.
Dark Sonic was super creepy in the Japanese version, with his deep voice unlike anything Sonic had ever sounded like. He popped off for sure and would've probably cooked Narcissus if Eggman didn't stop him.
The Molly episode is my absolute favorite in the whole series and has stuck with me ever since I watched it as a kid. Was always upset at how butchered it was in the English version due to censorship, so I'm glad you stuck with the original Japanese version
Yeah, while this saga I didn't watch it back then (at my side it was only aired 4 random episodes and that was it), is true how censorship can ruin stories like that one, glad that I can watch the original JPN version at any time while also having the dub for memory lane as well and see how wrong some stuff is due to censorship.
Yeah, the censorship during that episode was definitely at its worst, especially since it caused there to be plot holes in its own narrative later on because scenes in later episodes relied on what happened in this one (episode 73 in particular literally relied on what happened here in order to fully understand where Shadow was coming from). So they had to change more. And then it got worse, to the point where they had this Butterfly Effect of problems. Moral of the story: If you're dubbing a show from another country, just stick to the script.
The only thing left out in this video is that it is shown in the credits sequence (in the Sub, not 4KIDS) that Shadow survived the Chaos Control move he did to sacrifice himself and save everyone. I always thought he actually died but thankfully he made it out.
@@leociresi4292 Cosmo got spliced to another universe (either from the Sonic Driver or Chaos Regeneration, but probably from the former). Shadow got spliced to Cascade. Well, he might have been spliced to a different world, but eventually he made his way to Cascade. A month passes since the end of the battle.
@@tf_is_this_shit It's what happens when you mess around with Chaos Control. I'm honestly surprised they didn't create a Genesis Wave, or the equivalent with how much they were messing around with those powers in Sonic X.
It doesn't matter that I'm a guy or that I'm 25... every single time I see the final moments of Tails refusing to fire the Sonic Driver at Cosmo I cry it's just so emotional and Tails is just such a kind and brave soul he had ever right to feel the way he did... Rewatching this "summed up" arc of Season 3 of Sonic X actually taught me something just now, as I am currently in a life situation of having a crush on one of my friends who I met at work. Tails didn't say he loved or even thought Cosmo was cute until after getting to know her as a friend first. Which made me realize ya gotta learn to be friends with somone you like before confessing you like em and in some cases maybe even love em... Holy Chaos I freaking miss Cosmo and I feel so bad for cute little innocent Tails the fox is a hero and a brave and true friend... R.I.P. Cosmo...
As a kid who grew up in the 2000s. The Metarex Saga was the best thing for the Dark Era of Sonic. Dark Oak was such a great villain who is pure nightmare fuel. Making Chris more helpful since the first two seasons adds in some character development. Having Shadow to return after saving the Earth made the season even more great. The clash between the two Super Hedgehogs was epic. Seeing Sonic going all Beast mode after seeing what the Metarex were doing to Chris & Cosmo, was insane, until Eggman saves the day. Molly was a good character, who could’ve have a major role for the rest of the season, especially how she remained Shadow of Maria. The fight between Knuckles & Yellow Zelkova was surprising at the end. Shadow revealing to Tails that Cosmo was a Spy for the Metarex, was a big shocking twist. Seeing the origins of the Metarex & what happened to Cosmo’s planet was really dark. Dark Oak’s master plan is just like how Poison Ivy wanted everything on Earth to be ruled by all Plant life. Eggman working as a Double Agent does make him good for the rest of the Anime. And the final battle between the Heroes & Dark Oak was a moment to remember. Especially the final moments between Tails & Cosmo.
As a kid, I remember thinking the Metarex arc was also an adaptation of a game (Sonic Adventure 3) and I would constantly be on the look out for that game whenever I went to the game aisle 😭 I thought this arc was so cool and wanted to play through it!
I have a feeling that the seed that remained from Cosmo and the planet she was combined with is actually Cosmo’s child, and with enough water and sunlight, will eventually come to life. It would basically be Tails’s son. #SaveCosmo
The idea of Tails becoming so independent he basically becomes a parent raising his first love's child is kinda raw actually. Maybe it becomes an excuse to bring back the Chao Garden too?
It really is funny that My Little Pony basically parodied this episode in Season 2 of Friendship is Magic. You know, it astonishes me just how much influence MLP and Sonic have on one another.
The Scene where Sonic comforts Tails after Tails had to Shoot Cosmo was so good. There Big Brother and little Brother Dynamic is always a treat to see Side note: (Since the og video got taken down felt like posting this again)
@@annaleichliter4171 Sonic had multiple opportunities to prevent it and he failed every time for one reason or the other. But at the end of the day, he's the one that can use the MacGuffins to basically do anything. He should've come up with something, even after they got back home. There was an entire month long interim after the war ended where the show could've at least showed or told us that he was TRYING to do something to bring her back. And it's not like Knuckles would've stopped him from trying. He would've been all for it, since he was one of the characters that wanted to stop Cosmo from sacrificing herself at the end. This was something that should not have happened. I had to retcon this in my story, because I thought it was ridiculous to portray Sonic in this manner when it came to how he would act if his best friend just lost someone he loved. He still wasn't able to undo it with the Emeralds (she is brought back in a different manner), but it at least showed that he cared enough to try. And Sonic in the story actually feels responsible for it (which to be fair, would've happened in Season 4 of Sonic X anyway).
I appreciate that the anime gave Shadow his sacrifice back with no promise of him returning for that continuity... you know... because it ended shortly after
Actually, Shadow did survive but was visiting Molly’s grave, putting a flower down. Gerald Robotnik truly made the ultimate life form whom can cheat death again and again.
I once had an idea for a continuation for this series: Taking place a few weeks after the end of the Metarex saga and Chris's departure from this world and back to his, a mysterious object enters the planet’s atmosphere and crash lands on the surface of Sonic's world late one night. Sonic, Tails and several others head to where it landed to investigate it only to find a large crater left by the impact of the object, but not the object in question. As everyone eventually leaves, Sonic sees someone disappear into the forest. When Tails asks him what’s wrong, Sonic says it’s nothing and proceeds to run off to investigate this more thoroughly. Six months pass by and no one’s seen Sonic since then. While everyone thinks it’s normal for Sonic to be gone this long, Tails and Amy can’t help but worry. Suddenly, an armada of flying battleships appear out nowhere and begin attacking everything in sight. An army of robots also began flying out of the battleships and begin tearing everything apart. Tails, Amy, Knuckles and several others begin fighting back, believing Dr. Eggman is up to his old tricks again. However, a battered and bruised Eggman, along with his robotic assistants Bocoe, Decoe and Bokkun, appear in his damaged Egg Pod, claiming that this isn’t his doing and that some unknown assailant had attacked him, kicked him out of his base and had reprogrammed all of his other robots to serve it instead. While everyone wonders who could be behind this, a large floating platform, along with several more powerful looking robots, floats down right in front of them. On the platform stands a mysterious cloaked figure. When they ask who he is, the figure removes his cloak and reveals himself to be none other than Sonic himself. When everyone recovers from the shock of this revelation, they ask Sonic why he's doing this. He claims it's because after seeing Eggman fail so many times at taking over the world, he decided to “show that big, fat loser how it’s done.” When he returns to his flagship and flies off, everyone is wondering where he's going and if they can snap him out of this delusion. It’s at this point that Eggman reveals he planted a tracking chip on one of the robots and shows that they are heading towards Angel Island, causing Knuckles to speed off in the same direction out concern for the still shattered Master Emerald. When they arrive there, they see several robots taking the shards of the Master Emerald and are somehow repairing it with a mysterious energy coming from the canisters on their backs. When it is fully repaired, they proceed to have it lifted up into the airship, causing Knuckles to fly into a rage and try to stop them from stealing it. That's when Sonic appears and stops him, saying that he needs the Master Emerald to use as a radar to help him search for the seven Chaos Emeralds for his plan for world domination. They all proceed to fight, with Sonic being backed up by his robot army as well as seven of his most powerful servants, the seven Chaos Generals, consisting of Emerald Hawk, Sapphire Turtle, Citrine Clown, Diamond Albatross, Topaz Crocodile, Amethyst Specter and Ruby Emperor. During the fight, the forest around them is set ablaze and everyone begins to feel that they’re about lose when suddenly a blue streak speeds by them and strikes Sonic, revealed to be another Sonic. As everyone is left confused by this, the two Sonics proceed to fight, during which the evil Sonic is knocked towards a tree, causing several burning branches to fall on top of him and catch fire. However, the evil Sonic doesn’t seem to be bothered by this and keeps walking towards them like nothing is happening. Just then, the fire burns off the evil Sonic's skin and fur, revealing a metallic shell underneath. The ruse over, he reveals his true name as Metal Sonic, a robotic double of Sonic created from a combination of Sonic's DNA via one of his quills and Sonic's personal data, made to surpass the original Sonic in every way possible. He then escapes with the rest of his Chaos Generals to search for the Emeralds to complete his plan. Now aware of the true threat, Sonic and his friends, along with Dr. Eggman and his lackeys, begin their journey to search for the seven Chaos Emeralds and stop Metal Sonic once and for all. Sorry if this was so long.
The third season is hands down my favorite one, and even now I consider it criminally underrated, especially Tails and Cosmo's relationship. In a wild way, said season was also what inspired me to learn how to edit videos, because when I opened my first channel back in 2008, 14 year old me made a shitload of AMVs of them that I'll be the first to admit probably looked fire then, but would've definitely looked like fried assholes if you were to watch it today(I don't even have the files and any archives were lost to time). So needless to say I was a fan 😂. Great job as always.

Easily the third season was my favorite. I love the originality, and creativity just flowing from this. It was the most fun to watch by far and I loved every aspect of it.
@@potatoemporer2174 Ikr?! Anything in this Metarex arc was so great, thoughtful and creative! The idea of plants-animals conflict, Planet Eggs' nature, their connection with Chaos Emeralds, any element was well connected with the others! Now imagine if we can have a game adapting this arc with the possibility to include more members of the cast in this great-scape conflict with Metarex?! Like Blaze, Marine, Silver, Babylon Rogues, Chaotix (I know they were there, but I mean, giving them more screentime with a more engaging role than just being comic reliefs. They were funny huh, but just they must be more engaging for such a serious story)! You can even add cool skills to Cosmo, like, added to her skill to read Metarex's writing, she would be the only one who can understand their systems and counter them, and would have the rare but powerful capacity to take control of Metarex's robots with her mind when she is at her biggest despair! And why not a moment where Sonic gets the powers of a Planet Egg and learns to use them? It would be interesting, even better, a transformation fused between Chaos Emeralds and Planet Eggs for Sonic (to be opposed to Final Mova that is also composed with those 2 power sources) and giving him an incredibly powerful form, almost divine and lightful, like a Solaris-like deity in form! And Cosmo, after she died, instead of just being a seed, she could become a tree in Tails' Lab, with her spirit able to communicate with people coming in Tails' Lab (like Earthia was in her planet), connected to Sonic's Planet Egg which allows her to watch over the entire vegetation of Sonic's planet and take control of it when necessary! It will allow her to still have a role even if she has not her normal form and can't be with Tails and crew in person! There are such ways to improve this story keeping the old elements and giving a future impact for the stories coming after this one!
I'll be fully honest, Cosmo and Tails' arc made me cry and almost breakdown together with him It felt like such a huge hit and deeply impactful moment, kept denying to myself that I felt nothing because they're "cartoon Anthropomorphic silly characters" but godamn it hit so hard it made me legitimately cry since so long I've had my moments where I've felt or wanted to let out, but hell I never thought a two tailed orange fox was gonna be the one to pull the trigger and decimate that limit ALSO BOKKUN'S SECRET CRUSH??? Something I've only just realised: Whether intentional or not, the Metarex saga has a lot of callbacks to the classic anime series Space Battleship Yamato/Starblazers. Both series feature a single ship travelling across the galaxy to retrieve the macguffin that will defeat the race of alien aggressors that are out to destroy all life on their world and restore life to their planet. Said ship is armed with a powerful and unique weapon that is the only thing that can consistently defeat the enemy. Heck, in SBY, the word "Cosmo" is used quite a lot (Cosmo DNA, Cosmo Zero, Cosmo Tiger, etc.)
I love the connection between tails and cosmo, but I really wish they had expanded on the Dark Super Sonic more. Just imsgine the sure power and speed he would gain from this form. Imagine if they added this form to a game. Like why have we never seen this hype @ss form again.
Cosmo is my favorite sonic character alongside Knuckles. Her death (specifically in the Japanese version) bought me to tears. I love her design in character and I'd love to see her return.
Kinda wish some characters like Cosmo were still canon. By that, I mean actually got referenced in the games. I mean hell, Jet, Sticks, and Tangle all got a shoutout in Frontiers. Why not Cosmo?
@@Sybry605 Sonic Boom is a different continuity too, same for IDW before Frontiers gets released. Yet nothing keeps Sticks from being canon alone. There's no excuse for Sonic X that is even closer of the canon than those ones. Especially when Cosmo's story is the only thing that needs to come from Sonic X to canon of games, it's not like we wanted the entire show to be canon, we just want Cosmo and her lore getting canon too, that's not too much.
I remember when we could only watch this season with subs way back in the early 2010s. I never got to see the full arc, thank you for your great summarization of it and making my eyes watery!
They should definitely use the Metarex story in some way if they ever make Sonic Adventure 3, Cosmo and Dark Oak are iconic characters which would also be new to the games.
Actually, a game superficially titled Sonic Adventure 3 so long after Sonic Adventure 2 would ruin the franchise longevity, especially since the 4Kidz original version has more runtime than could reasonably be expected to fit in a video game that isn't an RPG, and more development time than could reasonably be expected to be allowed for a Sonic game. Therefore, a Metarex adaptation, if they are both able and have the hubris to make one, would be better off titled separately.
@@bubbykins4864 I honestly wouldn't call it Sonic Adventure 3. Maybe Sonic Legends. In fact, I'd make it an action RPG, because of how much story there is to this. There is enough story and locations to make three Sonic Adventure 2-length games. This is why I said if Paramount (or whoever owns Paramount after the buyout) managed to get the movie rights to the Metarex Saga, there's no way they could do it all in one movie. They'd have to split it into at least two parts, and that's only if they do a very loose adaptation. Understand this is all very hypothetical and not likely to happen, given the state Paramount is in right now.
Even in an abridged, narrated style like this, that final scene with Tails and the canon will always reduce me to the manliest of tears 😭😂 The way this season was built up, and the time they took to tell the story truly does make this the best story in Sonic X (and *debatably* the best in any Sonic media)

@@SBaby iirc Ian Flynn (the current main writer for Sonic) said that Sonic X isn't canon during one of his podcasts. Idk about the 2nd portion of that reply though, but I'd assume Ian probably said that because the whole Humans + Sonic Characters thing seen in Sonic X is a weird thing that Sega doesn't usually work with anymore. I really hope they bring her back for something at some point too but it's pretty unlikely unfortunately
@@yarknark It's not an issue with humans being with Sonic characters. I think Ian was joking around when talking about the human characters, because of Sonic 06. It's literally a copyright issue with the artist that designed the characters, as well as a copyright issue with the name 'Cosmo'. So it's two things. The first one is actually strictly a matter of money, because Sega doesn't want to buy the rights to the characters or pay royalties when they could just create new characters that have the same personalities and similar enough backstories (Trip). And that wouldn't cost nearly as much. The second one is probably an issue due to a certain fairy. They weren't specific on this, but I'm betting this is the case. That said, if the 'Cosmo' thing is because of that fairy, well guess who owns the company that owns that character? Paramount. So it is not entirely outside of the realm of possibility that if the Sonic movies keep going long enough (IF), we could see something there.
@@SBaby I didn't know about the copyright issues, that makes a bit more sense now. I've always heard Sega was kinda stingy with the humans thing so maybe I thought that had just carried on with today's writing in most of the games. Interesting thought about the movie though. I kinda doubt it'll go on long enough to see that happen but if it does it'd be interesting.
@@yarknark Realistically speaking, if they were planning on doing that story in any way that resembled the original version, I'd estimate that they would need at least three more movies besides Sonic 3 just to get the characters needed for it. Then they would probably need at least two movies to tell the story. The Metarex Saga is a very long story. To put it into perspective, look at how long it is in Sonic X, and then compare it to the length of the Adventure 2 arc. That should give you an idea.
HI! I'm a longtime Sonic fan, and I just wanted to say: I love your channel so much! You've introduced me to some interesting, obscure fandom topics, and taught me a lot more about stuff I might have already known, in greater detail. Also, I adore your theme song! Thanks so much for your content Chaomix!
I really like how this arc stays consistent wit Shadows character arc in Heroes-Shadow(05). That among other things really makes it 1 of the best Sonic stories imo.
Kinda, i think Shadow trying to kill Cosmo without giving any explanation to everybody was maybe a bit weird and too cruel and not fit well with his character.
@@banjo9158 nah I think it fits. He's very cutthroat & headstrong. once he decides on somethin he isn't easily stopped till he gets the job done in the most efficient way possible. Damn, i feel like i didn't appreciate this story all these years, thank you for making this video. I loved seeing the development of the characters, moments like Eggman helping Sonic and his friends, Shadow sacrificing himself instead of Sonic and the amazing ending with Cosmo's sacrifice... it honestly made me want this in game form, i feel like this could be a great adventure type game :)
Thank you for recapping all of the best season of Sonic X, Choamix! This is my favorite season as it is an original story not tied to the games, the characters are all a joy to watch - seeing them be themselves! I loved the TailsMo moments and just their genuine strong friendship they had! I loved how Shadow was still Shadow, once again sacrificing for others he cares for! I admit, I did watch the 4Kids version of this season and I hated it for butchering plot points, character motives, and unneeded censoring. The one that upset me the most was Shadow's Sacrifice as 4Kids made it look like he was a jerk and just. teleported away? Like what??? So yeah, thank you again for recapping the true story of this season! I'm happy to receive clarification over what actually happened!
Even though I watched the ENG dub as a kid (I was around 10 when seeing it for the first time), this season for Sonic X was amazing. I was shocked to see Cosmo say goodbye. She was a personal favorite character of mine. She was absolutely beautiful. 🥺
i know this series came out many years ago, but humor me here... is it possible that the Metarex knew about the Chaos Emeralds because they came from space?
When I first watched the season 3 finally I was balling my eyes out over everything that happened and my eyes still water to this day Sonic X will forever and always be in my top 3 favorite sonic shows #savecosmo
Thank you so much for making this video. This was not only a nice trip down memory lane with this show, a reminder as to why i and so many other fans hold it in such high regard to this day. Stories like this are what made me choose sonic over mario when i was younger and seeing the vibes of this arc again just puts a sad but thankful smile on my face :')
Well done on that Well detailed summary of Sonic X's Season 3 and the events of the arc, and to be fair, I really loved this arc so much, It makes me think about the potential Season 4 of the show if it was still on the air, and imagine in a alternate universe where we got SA3 instead of 06, this might be the story for that game, but man, this story is just really creative and dark, I remember when I was watching it on TH-cam and being blown away at it, but anyways, Sonic X is the goat, and as always, Great Video Chaomix! Stay Safe!
Damn, I never knew the backstory of the 3rd season because 4Kids made it unbearable at point. Now it will be worth it to check out the Japanese dub after all these years!
I've enjoyed the 4 kids dub of this show since I was 12, but I never knew that the locket Rouge blackmailed Bokkun with had a picture of Cream inside of it... Thanks for the video and the little bit of trivia.
I have a funny story regarding the Metarex Arc. When it first aired in my country, many years ago, I only discovered it because I woke up super early one weekend and I watched it on TV; and ever since then, I was forced to wake up early every weekend and record the episodes on VHS. This arc was simply amazing and the story was something I wasn't expecting, thanks to its new characters, enemies, events and finale. I've been wondering about something: with the recent events and lore from Sonic Frontiers, do you think that, in the future, SEGA will be brave enough to use this anime arc as a new game? I already have some ideas they could use: - The Metarex will still be the main threat, but they use The End as a means to do their anime plan of destroying everything - Cosmo can still be their guide throughout the adventure, and create links with Sonic's gang - the Frontier's combat style can be used here for the battles against the Metarex, with each character having their styles (Knuckles and Amy are brawlers, Tails is a ranged, Sonic and Shadow are quick hit style, etc.) - the first battle of the game is the Super Sonic vs. Dark Oak fight, as a Tutorial for the battle mechanics - each world has a select number of missions and secondary quests and they are as wide, if not wider, as the Starfall Islands, and the story is divided into 3 Acts, like in the anime Any more ideas?
I don't know about the games, because Sega seems pretty resistant to using Cosmo or the Metarex. I have no idea why this is, because Cosmo is by far the most requested character in the history of the franchise. It would literally be the Final Fantasy VII of Sonic if they did a game based on this and would likely sell extremely well. Seriously, Sega. Listen to the fans for once. That said, there's also the movies. Jeff Fowler has way more creative control over the movies than Ian Flynn has with the games. I believe the only rules they gave Jeff were that the main characters weren't allowed to die, and they couldn't have kids. Outside of that, everything else is fair game, as long as it's connected to Sonic in some way. So the chance of this saga being adapted into a movie (or possibly two movies) is not zero. So get out there and sign those petitions, because this is probably the best chance we'll ever have to make this happen.
I was waiting for when he would talk about the two conversations between Sonic and Dark Oak: the first being while he was inside of his dragon form, and their final conversation as Sonic is relaxing by the tree. Those were some of my favorite moments.
I watched Sonic X season 3 for the first time and it was incredible. great storytelling, amazing character development everything dark Oak was beyond a fantastic villain imo. Cosmo sacrificing herself to save everyone was emotional 😭
I think I remember seeing the first few episode of this on 4kids, but I also remember thinking for the longest time that it was some sort of fever dream. Mind you, I've watched stuff like Hoodwinked, Spirited Away, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, and several other films that arguably deserve that moniker more, and yet to this day those episodes of Sonic X were the only things I've ever seen that made me feel like I couldn't tell if they was real or not when I woke up the next morning.
You know it's crazy that sonic x season 3 were doing a thing with sonic giving him new shoes for each new episodes, and now were doing that concept again in sonic prime and I love it lol!!! 💙❤
Yellow zelkova didn’t let himself die. He was in shock from the excruciating agony and he was litterally bleeding out into the lava. You can see the red sap.
This would have been the perfect plot for a Sonic Adventure 3. Here’s to hoping they potentially look into adapting this amazing arc into a game. Or at the very least, re-dub the arc so that it’s NOT censored.

What I like about these planets voyages... They are actually "alive" and I means that when the heroes fix the environment problem of said planet, they reward them with a Chaos Emerald. NEAT!
Thank you for making this video, I don't have the time to rewatch the show but I remembered it from when I was a kid. Next to Shadow's past with Maria, this is the best storyline sonic ever had
Now that I think of it, sonic frontiers story is quite similar to the metarex sega, for example "the end" wiping out acient civilians mirroring the war cosmos people had and the heavy reliance on emeralds power to stop the eggs power from getting into dark oak.

@@Stupaipai English dub she left (censored)
Japanese dub she died
Apparently, the writer also wrote the story for Unleashed, so what does that tell ya? ;)
TMS and Sega of Japan fixed his characterization after the received hate they've gotten from around the countries especially the U.S/Europe.
@@Oneforus21111 Truly fixing Chris would mean he wouldn't have been in season 3 at all.
“He’s no longer a whiny kid who clings to Sonic like he’s the only friend he has. He’s grown up, - and his inventions and plans help sonic and his friends significantly.”
That’s literally just Tails’ character, so at that point why even have Chris?
So he was basically Tails. Now don't get me wrong. I have no problem having a human character in Sonic. In fact, some of my older fanfics had human characters in them. @breadandcircuses8127 That's because she's never seen or been used again since the end of Sonic X.
When I was younger, I thought that when Sonic Adventure 3 would come out - it would be based on the Metarex Arc. I literally thought that Sonic Heroes happened in that timelapse where Chris gets older and becomes a scientist of his own and before the Metarex Arc.
The sweet naivety of youth where we weren't aware of such concepts as continuity or canon, ngl I kinda miss those days too.

I honestly think there should be a game adaptation of the Metarex Arc. You could do so much with the concept, especially with the Planet Egg Gimmick of Worlds being changed depending on if they have their planet egg or not, leading to very different Act 1 and 2's.
nah just sonic shuffle
@@BigFearedBalloon I'm making a fanfic about, although in my version, I'm not sure of I want to keep the planet eggs. The Chaos Emeralds being sought after by the Metarex is enough motivation for the plot, adding a time limit of gathering another set of mcguffins was really unnecessary and is just tension that goes nowhere.
When was the fact Sonic's planet's Planet Egg being stolen actually mattered after it happened? You can just, cut that out and tension would be still be high enough.
Always adored this saga. It calls back to the first theme in Sonic - nature vs. technology. Also, it has one of THE best lines in Sonic X, spoken by Sonic himself to Dark Oak while he dreamt under the still waters of Planet Aquarius:
“I run home because everyone’s waiting for me.”
Totally true!
I’m just baffled they never adapted this into a game. The story is so well done and everyone gets a moment to shine. Tails and Cosmo are great together and individually. I love the growth that they go through.

I know Rogue isn't a necessarily good person, but I never pictured her actively letting someone die
She had to have known tbh, she was looking down
She's like the sonic version of catwoman
She probably knew.
Bear in mind, Rouge had prevented Sonic's doppelganger, Scourge, from killing Knuckles' own father, saying "We do what it takes, but we don't kill."
Hypocrite, much?
@@sonicstar917 To be fair, the Archie comics were... well inconsistent... The comics never met a retcon they didn't like, and introduced a mechanic into the universe strictly to give them an excuse to retcon anything whenever they wanted to. And I know that some of it was because of a certain artist, but not all of it was because of him, and they kept using it afterward.
The dark sonic moment was definitely a "hold up, let him cook" moment

39:47 eggman going into the chaotix cafe. Is pure gold it’s the funniest scene in the entire show for me.
Vector:”I thought I told you never to come here again!”
Dr Eggman:”Believe me, the feeling’s mutual.”😂
"Play it again, Vector."
R.I.P. Cosmo...
The worst part of it is this never would've happened if Sonic had just taken the initial fight against Dark Oak seriously.
FINALLY Somebody talks about the meterax arc for once there some of the most underappreciated sonic villians of all time
Yes thank you
As a kid, I remember thinking the Metarex arc was also an adaptation of a game (Sonic Adventure 3) and I would constantly be on the look out for that game whenever I went to the game aisle 😭 I thought this arc was so cool and wanted to play through it!
@@chaoscontroller316 SONIC ADVENTURE 3 LEAKED 😮😲🥵🔥
No seriously, this would be a great plot for SA3.
Cosmo’s sacrifice scattered the seeds of her clan throughout the universe, surely one of them is Tails’s offspring
From what I understand, it was actually going to be a daughter. I always used to joke around that he should name her Nicole.
He's 8 though...
I hope Cosmo becomes fully canon someday.
I love how when everyone else crash lands to the ground, whereas Cosmo’s (petals) spread open, and she gently goats down like a dandelion seed😁

@@JonyPlayz1 True! This story is so creative and dark! I wish to see a game adapting it!
Vector's plan to bring Tails and Cosmo together is undoubtedly where and when the ships began.
It really is funny that My Little Pony basically parodied this episode in Season 2 of Friendship is Magic. You know, it astonishes me just how much influence MLP and Sonic have on one another.
All three of those plans. Epic, comical, and hilarious fail.
The Scene where Sonic comforts Tails after Tails had to Shoot Cosmo was so good. There Big Brother and little Brother Dynamic is always a treat to see
Side note: (Since the og video got taken down felt like posting this again)
It's the least Sonic could do, since this was basically his fault.
@@SBaby Not like there was any other choice. He himself knew this.
Yeah, you could only tell Shadow was alive just by seeing his... well, shadow.
I once had an idea for a continuation for this series:
Taking place a few weeks after the end of the Metarex saga and Chris's departure from this world and back to his, a mysterious object enters the planet’s atmosphere and crash lands on the surface of Sonic's world late one night.
This Is so underrated
The third season is hands down my favorite one, and even now I consider it criminally underrated, especially Tails and Cosmo's relationship.
In a wild way, said season was also what inspired me to learn how to edit videos, because when I opened my first channel back in 2008, 14 year old me made a shitload of AMVs of them that I'll be the first to admit probably looked fire then, but would've definitely looked like fried assholes if you were to watch it today(I don't even have the files and any archives were lost to time).
So needless to say I was a fan 😂.
Great job as always.
i remember watching this as a kid and SOBBING… i think it’s the first piece of media to ever make me that emotional. honestly such a timeless masterpiece
Honestly, I tear up near the end of this show everytime and I don’t regret it
Easily the third season was my favorite.
I'll be fully honest, Cosmo and Tails' arc made me cry and almost breakdown together with him
It felt like such a huge hit and deeply impactful moment, kept denying to myself that I felt nothing because they're "cartoon Anthropomorphic silly characters" but godamn it hit so hard it made me legitimately cry since so long
I've had my moments where I've felt or wanted to let out, but hell I never thought a two tailed orange fox was gonna be the one to pull the trigger and decimate that limit
ALSO BOKKUN'S SECRET CRUSH??? OKAY FCK I THINK I WAS LEFT COMPLETELY MINDLESS OF EVERYTHING ELSE AFTER COSMO'S DEATH CAUSE I DON'T REMEMBER THIS OH MY GODDGKWSKSK
@Kian Bokkun, that's a felony.
How old is Bokkun anyways?
If you grew up with the 4Kids Dub, then it makes sense you never knew Cream was Bokkun's crush.
@@starttogo921 It's implied that he's around Cream's age. Also it's implied that he's a cyborg and not just a robot. So if it worked with Krillin and Android 18, it could definitely work with Cream and Bokkun.
I would've liked a fight between dark sonic and dark oak.
its mentioned somewhere that darkspine sonic from the secret rings may have been inspired by dark super sonic.
Man seeing Tails like that STILL brought me to tears all this time later
Cosmo is my favorite sonic character alongside Knuckles. Her death (specifically in the Japanese version) bought me to tears. I love her design in character and I'd love to see her return.
Kinda wish some characters like Cosmo were still canon. By that, I mean actually got referenced in the games.
I mean hell, Jet, Sticks, and Tangle all got a shoutout in Frontiers. Why not Cosmo?
Cause sonic x is a different continuity to the games(would be cool to have this story be canon but, eh whatever)

They should definitely use the Metarex story in some way if they ever make Sonic Adventure 3, Cosmo and Dark Oak are iconic characters which would also be new to the games.
Cosmo is literally the Aerith/Xion of Sonic. It's just stupid that they are so resistant to using her.
If this story was a game I feel like it would Sonic Adventures 3.
This was so enjoyable to watch. It makes me want to rewatch Sonic X again
I genuinely started to tear up again when we reached the finale with Cosmo's death.

Even in an abridged, narrated style like this, that final scene with Tails and the canon will always reduce me to the manliest of tears 😭😂
The way this season was built up, and the time they took to tell the story truly does make this the best story in Sonic X (and *debatably* the best in any Sonic media)

Broo ur bringing up my childhood feels. I love this story so much, its cheesy and goofy but dang it its so close to my heart. Thank you for making a video about this!
I know it's unlikely but I hope that Cosmo returns someday. She's such a good character that I'd like to see her in the modern Sonic stuff
@ADOLFHITLERREAL1945 Source? Also if that's the case, it means they're not listening to fans anymore, because Cosmo is by far the most requested character in the history of the franchise. Plus, the movies have an awful lot of similarities to Sonic X, so...
I already have some ideas they could use:
- The Metarex will still be the main threat, but they use The End as a means to do their anime plan of destroying everything
- Cosmo can still be their guide throughout the adventure, and create links with Sonic's gang
- the Frontier's combat style can be used here for the battles against the Metarex, with each character having their styles (Knuckles and Amy are brawlers, Tails is a ranged, Sonic and Shadow are quick hit style, etc.)
- the first battle of the game is the Super Sonic vs. Dark Oak fight, as a Tutorial for the battle mechanics
- each world has a select number of missions and secondary quests and they are as wide, if not wider, as the Starfall Islands, and the story is divided into 3 Acts, like in the anime
Any more ideas?
I learned some much more when I watched it the second time. Great job chaomix keep up the great work!!!!
I'll always remember cosmo. I appreciate every fanart of tails that has a potted plant in his home.
I REALLY wish they would've explored the Dark Super Sonic angle a bit more. It was so intriguing!
Well detailed summary of the Season 3 Sonic X and the events of the Arc
this sounds like the coolest sonic x season ever and i was unaware it existed because it wasnt on netflix when i watched the first 2
also this plot sounds like some sort of dream i would have when i was younger. love it
Honestly man, the ending genuinely made me cry when I first saw, and that’s saying a lot more than think
I always thought The End was more like The Mother from La-Mulana.
I was kinda disappointed the vid got taken down last night so I'm glad it's back up (I know I wasn't your fault, I appreciate the hard work!)
