Floor toms record well and may sound good to an audience but not as much to the drummer. Surprising the floor tom is so small compared to drums from other manufacturers. (For example Starclassic has identical kit drums except for a 16x16 floor tom.) Sonor 12" toms, like many 12" toms, can be a pain to tune.
Nice sounding kit. Love birch drums. What a difference the emperors made. The snare ring was a bit overwhelming. A big fat snare mat would have helped. Thanks for taking the time to do it.
I would think that the reso head of the 12" should be tuned up. I am a bit surprised that this tom is causing trouble. It's the 14" tom tuning which drives me crazy.
Ah... thanks for pointing this out. Big apologies, I wrongly assumed that all Remo UT heads were singly-ply, my bad. I guess in someways it makes it a slightly closer comparison between the heads haha. Appreciate the heads up, I'll make a note in the description. Cheers!
Kit sounded beautiful. Nice review. This kit is similar to the yamaha stage custom kit for $800. Both kits are birch shells but the sonor shells are a bit beefier. I just replaced my heads on my birch kit with remo coated ambassador on the snare and Emporer's on the tom batter side. I used remo emporer clears on the resonance side. I tryed the Ambassador coated on the kick drum batter side, but moved it to the resonance side because it was to glassy. I am a fan of birch shells and prefer remo heads.
Sounds very good even with shitty stock heads. As a mapex saturn v owner i regret paying that much money for a drum set. This kit and a set of quality heads will do fine in every situation.
I have that same issue. I think it's the additional weight pulling on the mounting system and choking the resonance. Because, when I lift the outer edge of my 12" a little with my hand, the resonance returns.
I have the same kit in woodgrain black. I love it. ❤ Thankyou was uploading this video. Got to know a lot. it will help me in tuning specially the 12 inch tom 😅. I am still using stock heads.
It works really well for blues. The bassdrum might be a problem, in my opinion it sounds pretty bad when you just lightly tap it ( I guess that's how you play jazz ... I'm not a jazz drummer) If you kick it decently hard it's a 900/10 for me
The Remo Chinese pinstripes are passable. But to my ear's, this went from a cheap sounding kit to a pro-level sound with the Remo Emperors. Very nice demo. Thanks
12" tom is incredibly out of tune with itself, you need to actually tune the entire drum, both heads. Same with the snare.

The Remo UT Pinstripes are also two-ply. You can clearly hear it.

Yeah I'd love to try out a Yamaha Stage custom - I keep hearing good things!
@fartpooboxohyeah8611I don't think hardware is included with Stage Custom kits. That's where the price difference is.
@@corykottick9996 correct, yamaha are shells only. That is pretty decent add on with yamaha then
I slapped EC2s on the toms. Beefy for sure.

The stock heads are just Remo pinstripes. They’re the exact same as normal pinstripes, but made in China, and with a Sonor logo.
11:09 Just lift up the 12" tom near the top of the rod. It will give you a more resonance.
12 in toms are always fundamentally the most difficult for me to tune...ANY brand.Something about the physics of that size...with almost ANY head.

💯💯💯

Ah nice! You’re welcome glad you enjoyed the video!
Would this work for jazz and Latin

THAT'S GREAT ! WHAT IS IT ?
Remo!
Great review 🙌
My man 🥁❤️
Remo heads by far
