Nice video. I have a Bobcat T630, which is 74hp and only about 8,600lbs and the blade size is a major factor. You have on an 8' wide blade here. Good to keep in mind that a D3 or D4 Cat dozer weighing in around 18,000lbs at 80 or 92hp only has between an 8' to 9' wide blade. A Bobcat brand 96" dozer blade just came in to a local rental place, so I gave it a try. Even though it was too much blade for the track loader, it worked good. I've ran dozer before and you're exactly right, if a person has no experience operating a dozer, it'll be trial and error for a long time. A smaller blade would work much better and a dozer blade has it's application.
Also, something to consider with the right size blade, there is less wear on the hinge pins and possibly on the machine in general for certain applications. Less heat in the hydraulics in certain scenarios as well if just pushing which makes for less wear. I used the one I rented for a few days in different scenarios on my property and I'm buying one, but a smaller size for sure. The 96" blade was too much blade for a T630. The proper size blade would allow the machine to work efficiently and productivity would be up, providing the operator has dozer skills. I might make a video after I get mine showing the uses and benefits. I've heard the same thing from other guys that it isn't any good but I thought it worked fine. Cheaper than a used dozer in good shape, that's for sure.

I do a lot of residential new construction work and I can see a benefit for backfilling foundations. Quite often we have 10' from property line to foundation walls the angle of the blade could make that much easier for us.. But i still haven't bought one because as you says we can do everything else without it.

They work well for cutting long modest swells , crowning driveways and pulling material towards the center , cutting modest drainage trenches beside long driveways on hills, rolling certain types of material that you need to dry after heavy rains. They can have their place if you do those sort of things. Like all skid steer attachments they are always a compromise between an attachments vs dedicated purpose built machines.

On an mostly flat area it seems a bucket is idea for everything you want to do, this best feature is the roll, with a bucket I use a 4-1 open as a dozer option, but if driving a flat/road on a hill it's always going to follow the roll angle of your tracks, I used to have a small tractor and go over with the box to get the nice roll angle, the blade works so much better. Guess it comes down to where you are and how much of terrain you generally work in if it'll ever make sense.

I have to try a dozer blade this week. blade has been in the yard unused since 2011 at least. I am hoping the new t870 size makes it more useable then the t250s that we tried it on in the past. we never use the harley rake, its been sitting so long it has moss growing on it. the dealer wouldnt even take it in as trade as no one here uses them

The nice thing about the blade though is it tilts for cutting slopes. But you could accomplish the same thing with a tilting bucket mount.

Could you roll any dirt behind he blade and backgrade like you can with a bucket? Didn't really seem like it to me. I've always wanted to try a six way blade because they look like a neat gadget, but after seeing your review it looks like that's all they are is too "gadgety". I totally agree you can set up a pad or find the slope you need to start cutting the grade you need.
You should try and get a hold of one of those Ashland scraper attachments to review!

We have one and I find that at least the bobcat one is extremely hard to finish with. I run a dozer and all.types of equipment. I find that it it a little too aggressive and because the distance from the blade to the tracks is so short that if you chop then you need to stop and start again

I could see it working on small landscaping jobs involving fine grading or even on small roads/ driveways where you need to level things up or put a crown in the road. Other than that, I feel like the machine would just be too small to be useful when compared to a traditional dozer. I also use your trick that you mentioned in order to get the machine at an angle for ditching, slopes, ect. It seems to work fairly well, but it can be hard to be accurate sometimes.

I have a dozer blade and over 10 skit sters Every attachment you can imagine I agree a bucket And a soil conditioner Combo Will finish any job You can get a tilt tach from quick attach If you need to angle your bucket I have thousands of hours of experience I thought I would use the dozer blade on extremely rough rocky roads but you're better off using a A set a Bobcat rippers and then buccanning out the rough rocks If you're going to do fine grading you'll need to have Dave at V blade build you brackets

You say that you have hundreds of hours in a skid steer with a bucket right, well for the most part running a blade is the same as a bucket, with the exception that you can't scoop with a blade and a bucket doesn't have a side shift option! When I am grading wether it's a bucket or a blade they both have to be full!

Put roads/driveways, pads, formed yards way faster than with a bucket and trying to get the machine “level”. If Avery Excavavting needs any help learning or making another verdict ill be happy to teach em. And yes im only 26 but bring it on gramps oh and using a Kubota with that much counter weight and still chopping really shows your inability as an operator and makes your review not only wrong but not worth a plugged nickel.
