  • This is a detailed review of the operation of a Sony PMW-EX3 professional camcorder with a Canon broadcast B4 lens.
The instruction manual states that a Sony 1/2-inch B4 mount lens can be attached to the PMW-EX3, but what does that really mean?
The PMW-EX3 is a Sony EX mount, so it cannot be used as is. The PMW-EX3 can be used with a broadcast lens by using the ACM-18 mount adapter made by Fujinon.
The kit lens (FUJINON VCL-614B2X) included with the PMW-EX3 is a small but very good HD lens, but it is not as good as the broadcast B4 lens (Canon YH19x6.7KRS) in terms of operability alone. The focus ring and zoom lens are very light and comfortable to operate, and the servo zoom can be operated at very low speeds, probably because the servo components can be designed to be large.
For B4 lenses, the zoom remote control is also attached to the servo part of the lens. I also purchased the ZC-9Pro made by Liebeck and am reviewing how it is attached and how it feels to use.
The flange-back adjustment is unique to B4 lenses, and we also introduce zoom images with and without flange-back adjustment.
The end point of the goal of an ordinary office worker playing TV station with a camcorder as a hobby has been reached.
In this article, we have not been able to mention the image quality when an SD lens is attached to an HD camera, but we will report on this in more detail in the next article.
