Back when I was a young golfer, only rich guys could buy those shoes. As I got older and could afford them I bought similar shoes for several years before the more comfortable, but less substantial, models hit the market. I still own several pair of what I now call "traditional" golf shoes, but, alas, my back doesn't allow me to play any longer. Very nostalgic video. Love your work and those shoes brought back a lot of good memories. Thanks

The finished soles are my favorite part of the job. To me that’s where the real art work comes in to play. Sort of where the rubber meets the road. Pun intended! Thanks Steve for another pleasurable experience.

Footjoy Classics, like you have there, were made in Brockton, Massachusetts. Unfortunately they closed the plant in 2009 and now all Footjoys are made with glued construction and made overseas. Thankfully you can still get the Classics on eBay (I own about 5 pairs). It's good to know there's still people who can recraft them. Loved the video!

There was a few dozen shoe manufactures based in Massachusetts. New England in general had probably over 100 companies at one time, and even the tanneries, and shoe machine manufactures, sadly they are long gone. Now there are just two left in the state, Alden, and New Balance (which still makes some models in the Lawrence). All the other companies went bankrupt, and/or moved production overseas. Still a few other companies based in Maine are still kicking.

Nice to know some guys are still wearing what I call traditional golf shoes (although without the leather soles). Those shoes were classic, well made, and comfortable. Nothing like the sneaker style so ubiquitous today. Beautiful work as always. Thank you again.

Awesome, awesome video. I first started watching shoe repair videos to find out how I could maintain my vintage leather golf shoes. After that I became interested in the whole thing such as shoe construction, different kinds of welts and all the other things you cobbler guys teach us. You mentioned those shoes were maybe 20 years old, could be 30 or 40! I have a pair just like those in black. You sacrificed the vintage leather soles for rubber but improved the shoe greatly. The owner will love what you did. One can not really buy shoes like those off the shelf anymore. Another great job from the best in the business.

I'd have to have two pairs of white golf shoes. One to play the course with and those to change into after the 18th hole and walk into the club house. Those are a work of art!! Beautifully done, sinful to get green grass stains on.

My ex had those exact golf shoes. I bought them for him one year for Christmas. Glad to see they were well made shoes. You made them look better than they had originally. I also loved your coordinated outfit today, you really do have an eye for detail that serves you well in your profession.

I had a few pairs of leather soled FootJoys. If they got really wet, the leather soles would stretch out and the fit would change. But, they still lasted a long time.
Those are beauty's. I really like how you made the thread go all the way around it looks great. Its sad to think someone will wear those clean white shoes out into wet grass lol.

Thanks for the closeup on the welt stitching...it really made sense to see that. I might have tried black or red laces for a little contrast but superb save as usual. Big thumbs up.

When I took up golf I bought two pairs of these, they were white and crocodile correspondent's. I had a complaint and sent a pair back and they objected to me having removed the Footjoy badge which was nailed onto the outside of the heel. I like metal spikes and have quite a few but no shoes to which they can be fitted. I am surprised that the welt is not 360 degrees since golf is not played on level ground and the spikes have the effect of separating the sole from the uppers in hitting a ball. Golfers no longer wear traditionally made shoes which require maintenance and company logos are now integral to the shoe.

In my high school marching band we were required to wear white bucks with our uniforms. Since you had to march on football fields in all kinds of conditions, they got pretty filthy, and since they were suede it was more trouble than it was worth to try and clean them. Yeah, you could brush off the worst of it pretty easily, but cleaning them so they looked as good new was futile. But they needed to look nice and white for the uniform. So we just took a bottle of Kiwi whitener and went over the dirt with it. Wasn't great for the texture of the suede either, but it wasn't as if you'd wear them with anything but your band uniform anyway.
Did they have the red rubber soles? I had those in jr high marching band. ROTC black oxfords in high school marching band.

Well I tried to get spikes but unfortunately everyone sells the plastic, this was with metal threads and no one had stock around me. The customer wants to put his own anyway.
Another job completed, I really like the sanding you did to the soles. I am still waiting to see you make a pair of shoes from scratch on this channel.

I worked at FOOTJOY in Brockton Massachusetts 144 Field Street. Best shoes in the world. Factory closed in 2007. Awesome people and products.
To answer your question, yes FJ are still making those (the cheaper mass produced are the Icon and run for around 300$with rubber sole and custom options - very solid shoe which replaced the Classics) but they also have the 1857 Collection where they offer Goodyear Welted construction. Full Leather Linings & Outsole like the Classics (that pair you repaired). Price is 750$ though. You did great job with this pair. I love my Footjoys and most of mine are white leather but I learned to give them some love and care so hope they last 10+ years and hopefully longer.
