It's the looks on Ripley and Dickie's faces as they listen to her sing that makes this so very mesmerizing ... as well as the performer's beautiful rendition of an Italian classic....
The atmosfear due to the black&white and the use of the camera to make nice and sophisticated images gives a new approach of the story. Even if you know the book or the two movies, french: plein soleil and american: talented mr ripley, this Ripley is a masterpiece for all movie buff.
This version of Ripley is wow ! very upsetting.. very dark and much more dreadful. the crime scenes are very horrible with lots of raw details and very long .Ripley actor is not so young, not handsome at all and he is very frightening. very scary.. i was surprised, upset , wanted to give up, but coulnd t abandon the serie i think its closer to reality , thant the wonderful movies done before, in color and less long the 2 movies avoided the darkest side of Ripley, his life of complete poverty of crook who lies to earn some dollars, ( already a gangster , only atttracted by money ) before he meets Dicckie's Father, they avoided too the crudeness of the murders. the black and white with the inimaginable beauty of the photography , gives a very melancolic but in fact true feeling about italy at this period. and bout the darkness and psychopatic coldness of the character of Ripley Italy 60 's napoli : ruins, poverty, decadence loss of prestige,, baroque art and religious objects everywhere, Napoli in decadence, as the small village with almost no one in it. emptyness of streets, poverty. Post world war 2 feeling. The Serie is a master piece event if it upsetted me. the actors : "Marge " actress yet is not at all realistic and not charismatic at all , the actrice looks too much like today girls hollywood style with too much make up and she has not at all the Class and or the melancholy and the anxious and crazy in love temper of Marge One Marie Laforet and Marge 2 Gwineth Paltrow ( Who was the best Marge, in fact ) Dicckie is too old, but finally its is great character, and we are in pain for him when the devil Ripley pland his muder.. Dicckie here is more arsitroctratic, much more calm and enigmatic than Jude Law or Maurice Ronet . Freddie Miles actor is a disaster, he is much too young , looks like a girl disguised in boy, his acting is too obvious too 'evidently ' sarcastic but with the wrong Physique, it doesnt work. its the only one who is very bad casting; The Freddie from movie 2 was the best one

As far as I found, the answer is Hildegard. She is a violonist and a singer with the same kind of voice as Mina.
