😂😂 I was thrilled with the pergola! Pleasantly surprised that he finished it all before I got home - I thought I was coming home to help! I have no doubts in his skills 😉
@@LindiandRuss it turned out phenomenal! Lol you guys need to do a "most used tools" video so I can deck out my garage with your power tools recommendations and copy your projects 😄
I’ve been dying to put a pergola at the home we just moved back into since it’s my childhood home, but the concrete is already level, set, and praying I can still add one to my backyard for my kids and outdoor fun with friends! Please if you have any advice on my message about let me know, I would really appreciate it. Plus as a single disabled mom of two I can use the help and knowledge!
You should start with checking what local permits if any are required. If you are unsure of what structure is required the best bet would be talk to a local contractor. We have a great blog post on our blog at Love Create Celebrate and search "Pergola"
Arms folded, feet spread at 30° angle, sweat on his brow, favorite work t shirt with another hole in it, a husband stands with uncertainty in his heart. He asks, “so what do you think?” As he waits with baited breath for his loving wife to validate him and his hard work. It is a tale as old as time.
@@LindiandRuss and with those four words, he lets out a small sigh and drops his arms releasing the tension in his shoulders. His reply, “cool, I’m going to get in the shower”. This man has survived to build another day. The end. Came out great guys.
Russel had the building plans/photos of the structure as his parents built the house. Depending on your own home, there are generally studs every 12" or 2'. Generally you also have stubs going vertically up along side windows and doors. If you are unsure you can contact a contractor or engineer to assist :)
Awesome work done especially in pergola..Planning to build same for my patio.Did you make 2 inch notch on 2x6 beam to hold purlins? how did you fix purlins to the beam? Thank you!!
@@LindiandRuss Thanks I will do same. Wondering what screw should I use to secure it..Please advise..sorry i am bit naive in this type of work :) and for concrete base, how much gap should I keep with house foundation? Thanks!
Did you notch the rafters where they meet the horizontal beam? If so, did that put them at a bit of a slope? Did you have to calculate an angle at the front of the rafters in order to put that board on the front of them. (That board looks great, btw!)
We set the beam so the rafter sit level. We had to notch the beam in a couple spots because it was warped. If you plan to put some kind of roof on the pergola you may way a slight slope away from the house.
Good call! Sometimes I (Russel) gets focus on the task and I try to push through moving big things. But my back will thank me in the future if I listen to this!

“Pleasantly surprised “ 😲. I’d never get my husband to do anything again if I said that. Russell - you did great, love the pergola.

Great video and looks great. One question: how did you attached the ledger board to the house?
8" lags into the studs/framing:) Thanks for watching!
Is it possible to install the pergola brackets on an existing pad of concrete? Or does it have to be wet, freshly poured slab?

Hi Mark from Wrexham M.Wales, UK. What did you use to hard cure the slab surface? CLOTH, Paper or something else?
We just used damp white sheets that we kept making wet over a few days
Nice 👍🏽

@@LindiandRuss looking forward to more updates .. love your style
What did you use to hold the posts on the concrete?
We used saddle brackets that we set into the concrete while it was still wet.
Wow
How do you find a stud to connect to sledger?

What species of pressure treated lumber did you guys use?
Just the brown pressure treated from the hardware store - nothing special
@@LindiandRuss Perfect! Thank you for responding and blessings to you guys as you continue on your journey.
How many sq feet is the pad?

We just screwed from the sides at an angle to secure the purlins to the beam.
