    What a fun removal this one was. We had a surprise guest helper show up and the homeowners were a couple of great people. All in all it was a really fun removal and I got to go back to the abbey with some super bees. I hope you enjoy the video as much as we had fun making it. God's peace. Mr. Ed

    Your pure love, joy and delight (And a wonderful smile) in what you do with bees has convinced me to start a beehive. I want some of that Godly love of bees and their fruits too! We live in Northwestern NM so there will be challenges in winter. However with 1/10th your enthusiasm, and prayer we will be successful! It looks as if that colony had only been there for a short time because all of the comb was so white. It certainly was quite a big colony. I think it’s interesting that the bees chose to draw their comb diagonally across that space rather than longitudinally or directly across it. Most of all it is good that you found the Queen.

    Looks like the free bees make much thicker comb than they do on frames. Would it make sense to create thicker wood around each frame to allow for thicker comb in the hive? not sure if i am phrasing my question well ;)

    • @andrewamann2821
      @andrewamann2821 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Increasing your frame thickness doesn't really buy you anything, since there's a pretty limited depth that the individual cells can be built to. You also run the risk of missing signs of certain parasitic infections in your hive, by missing changes in your comb patterning.

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bees build their comb to very specific thickness depending on the need. Brood comb and honey comb could be the same thickness, about 1 inch thick, but other times you will find honey comb that is thicker. Bees are very intuitive about their needs, and construct the comb according to those needs. Great question Nick, thanks for asking and for watching. God's peace brother.

    Good morning Jeff, my wife and I enjoy so much watching you wrangle them bees. Last week one of our hives that we were inspecting turned very hostile. I got stung thirty times through the jacket. It didn't go well. I'm thinking because there was no nectar flow. I'm becoming fearful of them. What. Advice do you have for a 71 year old man that's in his 2nd year of beekeeping?

    • @RICDirector
      @RICDirector ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on your location, it may be possible that you got some africanized bees...which totally sucks, although I doubt they'd have stopped at 30 stings.
      Glad you are OK, for sure. Please stay safe!

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bees are more aggressive in a dearth which is why I do not go into my hives once I have harvested the honey. Since I do not know all the particulars of your situation, it is hard to give you a suggestion. However, generally speaking, it is common to have bees act aggressive on one day and gentle on another. Conditions change and bees change depending on those conditions. I'm sorry I can not be of more help. God's peace Chuck.

      @@JeffHorchoff Good morning Jeff. I figured the girls were upset because I went down to the lower blood box and they weren't having any of that. This seventy one old man took off. Lol.
      I hoping one of the more experienced beekeepers in the group I belong to is stopping by.
      Just this Monday the hive was very active. It wasn't like it was being robbed out. But more like a orientation flights. Or the queen is gone. Hopefully I'll know soon. I'll let you know. Thanks for getting back with me. Be safe and God bless you brother in Christ.

  • @Bl4ckw0lf1
    @Bl4ckw0lf1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr. Ed. I enjoy your videos. I have a few questions. It looks like you've transferred the comb into that new hive and I was watching the bees and it looked like they were going along the top of their new hive to the outside of the box. Wouldn't they go into the new box because of the pheromones associated with their comb? Or is it possibly because their old home accent hasn't dispersed enough to assure them that it is indeed their comb in a new location. I also assume that be capturing their queen will double down on the scents.
    How worried are you about killer bees in your area?
    Finally, I'm asking this because I also watch KillerBeeGuy. The flooring that you took up, what happens to those pieces? KillerBeeGuy states that he removes items like that (if possible) because of the higher attraction to future swarms of killer bees. Do you do that with those floor pieces that you've removed? If not, what type of treatment do you do, if any?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Whenever I dump bees into a hive over their own comb they never go right down into it, even if the queen is there. Eventually, they will but it takes several minutes. Once enough bees get down there and start fanning the pheromone, the others will join them. We do not have Africanized bees in my area....thankfully. However, I'm sure they will eventually get here but until that day I'll keep on dong things the same way. Regardless if the bees are Africanized or not, once bees have made a hive in a structure and those bees are removed, their scent will remain forever. There is no product made that can cover the scent. Even if you remove some of the material, unless it's ALL removed, the possibility of another infestation is possible. God's peace brother.

    Randy, from someone who was 5'3" and 310 lbs from a lifetime of dieting, I have lost 55 lbs and still going from eating Carnivore/Keto. So no, don't cut out the hamburgers, cut out the carbs...i.e. the bread, potatoes, sugar, etc. Trust me within days I had no cravings. You can eat as much as you want of protein and fat as long as you keep your total carbs under 20, even better if you keep them under 10. The fat will melt away, your joints will feel great, etc. See Dr Ken Berry, Dr Boz, and or Dr Cewyes, aka the Carb Addiction Dr. You will be glad you did.
