Hi Jimmy and Jared! I heard this story as a child in Georgia and was told at the time that it was true. Being around ten at the time, I was captivated by it but laughed it off as something told to scare me. I had only lived in the foothills of the Georgia mountains for three years. The elderly man hosting this children's Halloween party had lived there all his life and was very good at telling such tales! This one, however, was the only one he claimed was true and swore it to me upsidedown and backwards when I quietly got after him for telling my friends a lie! Flash forward two decades: a friend from the area where this supposedly happened sends me a newspaper clipping. The headline reads that a man on his deathbed confesses to his minister that he was one of the two people involved in the ax murder of __________ before he himself dies! My jaw hit the floor! Old man Robinson was telling the truth! Apparently, this fellow was one of the robbers that night! He swore that the fellow who was the actual ax murderer was himself killed in a brawl behind a bar not two years later and the second death sobered him up! He died having a wife and children and was not rich but well respected in his church and community, so the confession shocked everybody, including his minister! The story was quickly buried after that, so his family wasn't too traumatized. His grandchildren would be adults with kids today, so I'm not mentioning names, towns or dates for that reason. Just thought you'd want to know that this one is actually true. Maybe you don't want to know. That makes it really scary doesn't it! 🎃👀☠ Y'all take care now! May God bless you and yours. 😊
