My daughter just got me one of these for a gift, as a replacement for the cheap plastic 'slap chopper' types we've had (and broken) in the past. While I'm very pleased with the construction of this chopper, I'm genuinely disappointed that it doesn't have some sort of containment method when I'm chopping something mushy like tomatoes or onions. 😟
This isn't meant to do tomatoes - they're way too soft. It might dice something firmer like an onion fairly well, but it's really just meant to make fries out of potatoes.
Does it work smoothly on its own without a potato in it, or does it bind up? Also I've found that one quick smooth motion is the best way to do it. If you're still having trouble, you could cut them in half lengthwise, which should reduce the amount of force required by half as well.
I do love this product though I did find the sucker useless & had to improvise a clamp for it & extend the handle for more leverage. Also, I do wish that they did a more chunky chip blade, say 3/4" would be better.
I`ve just bought a Sopito Manual French Fry Cutter and the 3/8" Blade. I already have the similar design Electric Sopito French Fry Cutter and a 3/8" Blade. They are both in a different league to the standard cheap plastic or stainless steel ones. I love real chips and I really loathe Frozen Chips !!!! I am so pleased with these 2 Chip Cutters. They are more expensive but you get what you pay for !!!!!
@@doresoomproductreviews I stand the chip fryer on end with the blades in soapy water and use a plastic brush to clean the blades. I remove the pusher plate then rinse them off !!!! I do the same with the Electric version after I`ve unplugged it !!!! It`s very easy to clean !!!!
@@Fatfrogsrock I bought the manual one because I peel potatoes in the garden, and I throw the peelings on a compost heap, and it's a lot easier to use the Manual one. They are fantastic Chip Cutters, but the electric one is huge, and really is awkward to clean and move around.
Thanks for the reply. I just brought the electric one, not sure if i should keep it or not. It does seem a pain to clean, I was thinking of using a steamer to clean it so then i wouldnt have to take the blade apart. Works really well, but doesnt seem like it was made for infrequent home use@@spaceted3977
I've made sweet potato fries plenty of times with it. Takes a little more effort, but it's manageable. Try cutting them in half lengthwise first if you're having trouble.

I really struggled to get the potato through. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Definitely wasn't easy like it was for you.

Same. Using all my strength for a sweet potato
Sometimes parboiling does help too if you find youre really stuggling

Microwave the sweet potato for 2-3 minutes to soften it.
You need to cut potatoes in half. Some potatoes are very hard and just because they will fit doesn't mean they are easy to cut !!!
Thank you 👍🏻

@@spaceted3977just out of curiosity, why did you buy the manual one if you already had the electric one?

Where it's possible to find 1/2 blade replacement?
I'm not sure - I see a listing on Amazon for the 1/4" and 3/8" replacement blades, but the 1/2" isn't there: amzn.to/3Xj3sdq
Ty for shearing. How bad will it work on a non glossy surface ? Ie no suction for suction cup.
It should still work, but you might have to hold it in place a little.
How much price this machine & how can purchase this in india
Currently $40 USD on Amazon: amzn.to/32ACN1W
Not sure about how to purchase it in other countries.
How I can get it in Pakistan.
It does not work easily on sweet potatoes
