Honestly, shortly after I first met the Two Fingers, and definitely by the time I found the first set of "dead" fingers at the top of the first tower, I always thought of them as just roots of the Erdtree. It definitely seems like a plausible explanation to me.

10:40 bet Ranni is known as Radagon of Daughter in the files, and just as Marika and Radagon are two halves of the same person, Melina and Ranni are each a half of her\his daughter with Renalla

My current suspicion is that Melina is the Fingermaiden that got sacrificed in the forge that Shabriri tells us about. What specifically sold me on this was comparing her hair color to the other known Fingermaidens which were all brown hair. Fulfilling duty up to being burned and bodiless would have stripped her of purpose especially when her Tarnished didn't become lord before us. What I really wonder then is who they were, and why Torrent is not with them, along with the spirit caller bell Ranni gives us.

About the fingers, there's nothing that prevents both ideas from being true. If the tree's sap is very blood-like in appearance, the "living" wood could also be fleshy in appearance. There's a disease for humans that mimics a tree-like "woody" growth and there are trees with very red heartwood, a couple trees that "move", plus trees as they age have been known to have some very bulbous and tumor-like growths so it stands to reason that in a fantasy setting, it's entirely possible that a tree can mimic human flesh on some movable, interactive part of itself and if that part "dies" it begins to revert in appearance to a more wood-like state.

Perhaps the fingers at the top of the divine towers are simply petrified. I believe they "died" around the time just after the shattering which was a few hundred years prior to the events in the game. Maybe they are flesh and blood but became petrified over time.

About the butterflies, yeah there's a surprisingly large amount of lore if you read every single item description. When I saw the nascent butterflies mentioning a coccoon I'd already fought Mohg and seen Miquella's coccoon, the mention of it in the item description seemed very purposeful, specially once I remembered the aeonian butterflies.
That left me confused about the fiery butterflies, they don't have much of a description (lore-wise) and only the fire giant seemed deeply connected to fire at all. When it was brought up that Melina's coding name referenced Marika, it just fit in and made sense, which tends to be how most of the game lore works, a lot of different facts start to fit in and connect to a million other facts, it's surprisingly well put together, albeit intentionally obscured.
That being said, the fact she mimics the Black Knife assassins animations, has a similar dagger, has an unique erdtree-esque incantation, bears the eye mark like Ranni (which I assume is related to the rune of death) and has a glowing blue eye on the Madness ending *(by the way, if you use her to burn the tree then get the frenzy flame to burn you, she doesn't show up for the cutscene, since she died burning herself)* still leave me intrigued.

I think I found something new! Just used the incantation "Stone of Gurrang" to block a Lightning Spear in PvP. They collided and the stone broke, but it saved me. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm thinking it'll work to block other projectiles too (or visa versa)

Well about the Giant head thing: we know from the Milos sword, that human sized Giants are a thing, so it wouldnt be too far fetched to think it goes the oppsite way too. Those are simply bigger variants of the Giant race, most likely killed by Godfrey in the war against the giants.

Melina being the daughter makes even more sense if you pay attention to Hewg's prayer, Melina is the one who encourages you to commit the sin, my personal take on it is, Marika wanted change so much Melina was created purely to bring that change. Marika wanted someone to end both the current age, and to that extension, Marika themself. Hewg himself is creating a weapon to "kill a god" afterall. Sorry if this is seriously offbase/wrong, just my own thoughts on the matter.

  • @franciosdauteuil4626
    @franciosdauteuil4626 ปีที่แล้ว

12:30 I always thought Melina was clearly intended to either be the daughter of marika or else make the players think she is. Think about it this way: Melina keeps telling the tarnished not to worry about her burning as this has always been her purpose, she tells us she was born at the foot of the erdtree but we are also told time and again by those such as the finger reader crones that the burning of the erdtree was the cardinal sin and that many have glimpsed the erdtree burning in their visions being seen as heretics and cast out, meanwhile the gloam eyed queen was the embodiment of death and fulfilled a necessary function of lifes proper order in the lands between and it seems like not only was she more important back before Marika banned death by taking the rune of death and binding it to her brother maliketh but that she almost certainly had a body as well. Then we consider that the dragonlord placidusax was a lord of a different age before the erdtree and how the crucible seems to have once been a growing tree itself and you start to get the pieces of a larger picture of Melinas role in the story of elden ring. She was created to serve the purpose of removing that which was old and making way for a new age, the age of the erdtree. She was the embodiment of the death that brings about new life within the lands, by burning the old age and its realm she allowed the erdtree to flourish without competition and played her role as the gloam eyed queen of death reaping those that remained and even taking the many now nameless offspring of the lands between including the many nameless demigods in the wandering mausoleums before Marika sought to banish death and seal the rune away. When Marika sealed death away the gloam eyed queen lost her body and became what we know today as Melina and that is why she is so knowledgeable and capable of filling the role of a finger maiden despite making a point of saying she is still not a real finger maiden. She helps encourage us to burn the erdtree not just to fulfill her duty of shepherding in a new age for the lands and in the our tarnished's journey we kill maliketh releasing the rune of death and giving the gloam eyed queen her power back. This is why if we choose to let chaos rule then we are given the promise of hunting us down no matter where we hide because if our tarnish chose this path she would ultimately loose her purpose.

I know this may sound dumb but is there much lore on ensha besides his armor? I just find it strange how finding half of the haligtree medallion seems to piss him off enough to attack in the roundtable (which is weird since its suppose to be neutral to all within) but otherwise could care less about Pcs. I know the armor description depicts him as a long forgotten king of sorts but if that's the case then why does he listen to Gideon whom could also care less about ensha. In all enshas purpose is so out of place to me. Though parts of me think he has something to do with Miquella, Melania, and/or Mohg but only because of the Haligtree medallion.

another thing about the fingers, the 2 fingers represent the order and 3 fingers the chaos, together they form the gods hand, the balance in between order and chaos, but apart they follow extreme paths, 2 fingers with the golden order and 3 fingers with the frenzied flame

    • @franciosdauteuil4626
      @franciosdauteuil4626 ปีที่แล้ว

Always seen it that way myself, i personally would really like if given how we found so many possible ending cutscenes that when we get a proper dlc we had a way to unite the fingers in one ending, a dlc where we are gripped by frenzy and use miquellas gifts to cure our madness and then mend the golden order with goldmask while also finishing the prince of death questline and ranni questline. When you think about it the elden ring has so many rune slots displayed, if we were to solve all these issues and combine their runes into the elden ring then we would create a balanced land where death is once again a natural part of life and where those trapped between life and death such as godwyn would be granted peace and either reborn into the new order or move on into a proper afterlife. We would remove the hypocrisy of the golden order with goldmask and allow an unbound ranni to brave the dangers of the void that maid such creatures as astel and the star beasts. In essence we bring balance to the world and could have a ending where the fingers recombine and achieve balance. We see some finger readers such as the one at the roald lift and the round table holds ones disagree about what the will of the greater will would truly be telling us to do and if we were able to cure the elden rune of these imperfections perhaps we could properly communicate with the fingers without having to rely on mediaries with their own biases and beliefs.

So my theory is that Melina isn’t marika daughter rather a piece of her. When the elden ring shattered it was probably a powerful explosion searing a piece of marika Flesh off. That’s when we fight the fused radagon/marika their missing pieces of flesh. Only when we get to the burning of the tree she sees marika goal wanting to remove the eltree but when we burn everything with frenzy flame the piece of marika awakens and is furious.

I always thought Melina was another aspect of Marika, like Radagon is. In my head canon, Marika made Melina for the purpose of burning the thorns that guard the Erdtree so Marika/Radagon can be set free.
Melina was burned before, but it proved to be unsuccessful, which is why she needs the help of a tarnished.
In short: Marika isn't Melina's mother, she is her maker, just like she is Radagon's.
I think this is one of the abilities that makes you an Empyrean.
Anyway, who knows! Roll on the DLC so I can be even more confused.

Not sure if anyone know this about Blaidd, which make his role even sadder than before to me.
When you fought him at the end of Ranni's quest, if you look carefully, Blaidd was never losing control of himself. In fact his loyalty to Ranni was so strong that he actually fought off several Black Knife assassins just like Iji.
It took me a while to realise the bodies scattered around him. He refused to die until he saw you, the tarnished. The reason of him fighting you is not because he finally lost control to the curse of the fingers, but he saw you as a friend and trusted that you, the tarnished, are strong enough to put him out of him misery.
Maybe this is an already known fact, and I'm just late to the party. But hey, would be an interesting topic to dive into.

Given that there are 4 Black Knife Assassins guarding the seal to the secret entrance to the Haligtree in Ordinia where the Black Knife Assassin Armor set is found it seems they are in service of Miquella.

@@masternate2993 The tipoff in Ordinia is that the Black Knife Assassins won't attack the Albanauic Archers and vice versa, they're both guarding the seal for Miquella.
The question is why would Ranni lock up the Leader of the Black Knife Assassins in the immediate aftermath of of the Night of Black Knives. To me that would indicate that something about how the Night of Black Knives went down went against Ranni's plans. And I think (and this is just a theory)that its because Ranni wanted/planned for the Black Knife Assassins to slay Radahn instead of or in addition to Godwyn and by not doing so left Ranni's fate and ambitions suspended indefinitely. So why would have the Black Knife Assassins sabotaged Ranni's plans? I think its because even then they were really working for Miquella. We know that the Black Knife Assassins being Scions of the eternal cities likely had been planning to supplant Marika and the Golden Order with an artificially created Lord of night but all the countless attempts to create such a lord, failed. Now imagine Miquella wishing to establish his order apart from the Golden Order and the Greater approached the Black Knife Assassins and made the pitch that he could be their lord of Night and had a plan to bring down the Golden order an plan that not only would make use of the talents of Ranni but ensure that her fate would remain suspended at the end of the plot so she as the only known Empyrean that could/would rival his order to be was effectively neutralized. Thar would also explain why the Black Knife Assassins go after Ranni's crew once she's had her fate freed and slain her 2 fingers because at that point she was a threat to Miquella again.
But all my theory crafting and speculation aside, there's no real need for Ranni to kill Iji or Blaidd. Ranni is cold and ruthless but she not indiscriminate she wouldn't just kill Iji and Blaidd just because. And even if she needed them dead, she wouldn't need to send assassins both Iji and Blaidd would die at Ranni's command if she asked it. Iji references his own impending death multiple times and simply accepts it, so why bother killing multiple Black Knife Assassins serving Ranni on his way out?

I think there's still a very interesting piece of lore to the fingers i have not heard a theory on yet.: Ranni says every empyrean was chosen by their OWN fingers which emplies, since Ranni is the only empyrean to kill her fingers, ther have to be living fingers for Malenia and Miquella! But where are they? Now I think the fingers in the Round Table Hold, in their wounded "rotten" form fit Malenia perfectly, just like the blue fingers do fit Ranni. And now the kicker the three fingers then would be Miquellas fingers (hence the closeness of the concecrated snowfield to Yelogh Anix and even the color cloesness Yellow/Gold)! I guess that might even be the reason why Miquellas Needle does work against the frenzied flame because he might managed to witstand it already even might be the one to banish the three fingers to the Capitals Underground.

    Three facts and theories
    #1
The ash of war Seppuku originated from Japan. It was a suicide ritual used by Japanese Samarias’ whom disobeyed their rules known as Bushido. The ritual involved one stabbing them self with one of the katanas.
    #2
This one is more of a theory but still. Rennala is obsessed with birthing people anew. She is births new bodies for her daughter, Ranni. Ranni killed her body on the night of black knifes, letting her spirit free from the influence of the greater will. Rennala, loving her daughter, births new bodies for her daughter to inhabit, attempting for her to inhabit these bodies instead of the dolls bodies. Sadly, the people birthed anew are short lived and need constant rebirth. Once she is defeated in her first phase, Ranni spawns a new illusion in of Rennala. Now Rennala knows Ranni is not dead and stops birthing her new bodies in her library.
    #3
Also wanted to add unto the butterfly theory. Both Melina and Malania both had red hair. Just like Radagon. This could be a coincidence but I don’t think so. Also Miquella in his cocoon is bald, so he could have red hair too. Also Radhan had rad hair and it looked like so did Ranni’s body. So I definitely think that Melina is a daughter of queen Marika. What I think happened was Malania was a daughter of Marika. After gaining control of Destined Death and fighting Marika for control, she lost. Then Marika disowned her, which we have seen before, with Mogh and Morgott. So I think people knew her as the gloam/dusk eyed queen. That would explain the hair and butterflies. But, that only a theory.

You have probably already talked about this but I find it interesting that the Heart of Aeonia is directly above the little bridge behind Mohg’s arena. I’m certain this isn’t a coincidence as Mogh has Miquella held in the same area just a few meters away. I’m not sure what this means for the game’s lore but it is definitely important in some way.

Malenia was looking for Miquella who was taken by Mogh, so naturally the search for Miquella brought Malenia to the swamp of Aeonia. She is clearly waiting for Miquella to return or be returned. And when she could not wait any longer, she set out to find him which of course lead her to leaving many corpses on her war path.
Also If you look at the female shaped root statue in her arena you will find a large hole underneath it, that's where Miquella's cocoon was, and it's clearly empty, like how would Malenia not notice that... When Malenia dies she says "my dearest brother, I'm sorry I finally met my match" she's apologizing bc she wasn't able to bring him home.
Mquella was taken by Mogh and Malenia set out to find him, her search eventually lead her to the Aeonia swamp where Radahn then interfered with her search and forced her to retreat to Haligtree after passing out from the first bloom. It's that simple.
There is a well in Caelid that takes you down to Siofra where you can see Mogh's Palace not far in the distance. And as the OP mentioned, Mogh's palace is right under Caelid. Malenia was most likely looking for this to make her way down to Mogh's area.

Malenia fought and humiliated Godrick on her way to Caelid, yet she didn't kill Godirck nor take his Great Rune nor conquered Stormveil, because she has no interest in doing all that, she's simply looking for Miquella.
When you speak to Gideon Ofnir about Haligtree he says "I heard speculation Miquella embedded himself in the Haligtree, but before he could finish some one cut him open and absconded him in an infant form"
When you tell Ofnir about Moghwyn palace he says "perhaps it's worth looking into, if what I've heard is right then maybe..." then he says "So Miquella was with the lord of blood after all"
Basically Gideon heard that Mieuqlla was cut out of the Haligtree then he heard from somewhere that Miquella was with Mogh which turns out to be true. Melina is definitely the Gloam-Eyed Queen who probably after she lost to Malekith, either lost her memories of that day, got reincarnated somehow (Marika probably has her ways), or she’s recovering and slowly buying her time until she’s at full power once again. It’s quite ironic/strange that she would just offer herself up as a sacrifice to burn the tree. She probably intended to do this from the beginning but didn’t have a tarnish strong enough to help her with her hidden task. She probably even doubled her own power since she let the giants flame engulf her.

Then left Melina burned and bodiless alive only in soul like Ranni either because that was just the result of Maliketh sealing destined death in his sword and/or Maika could use Melina as part of an escape clause should Marika ever decide to end her rule and the Golden Order.

@@Terminalsanity The Greater Will didn’t use the Dragon God as his own vessel. The Outer God of Placidusax fled when the Greater will came in to assert his control over the Lands between. (That’s probably when Astel came crashing down that time). Plus, Destined Death is also considered to be another Outer God as well. Just not directly named “outer god” and/or any concrete info that Solidifies it as a Outer God. You also have to take into account that the game takes place 5000 years after the events of the shattering (George R.R. Martin confirms this since he’s the one that said it), it wouldn’t make since for the GW to use Melina to over throw Marika, let alone wait 5000 years to exact that kind of plan. Plus we don’t know anything that confirms The Gloam-Eyed Queen was aligned with the Greater Will/Golden Order. Only thing we know is that Marika feared death for herself (the most) and her kids, so she sends Malekith to deal with the Gloam-Eyed Queen (who may have tried to overthrow Marika out of her own volition).

Destined death is not an Outer God at all it is a Great Rune that Marika removed from the Elden Ring then sealed within Maliketh's sword upon the defeat of the Gloam Eye-ed Queen. We have no idea what the Greater Will's intention with Gloam Eye-ed Queen was only that she was an Empyrean that the greater will apparently chose to wield destined death.(this all established through item descriptions and dialog) Marika for reasons unstated defeated the Gloam Eye-ed Queen then had destined death sealed away in Maliketh's titular black blade. I took my stab at explaining the gaps. Do a bit more online research the connection to the Greater will and Gloam Eye-ed Queen is established through the Item description on the Black flame ritual spell: "The Gloam Eye-ed Queen led the Apostles. It is said that she was an Empyrean chosen by the 2 fingers"

Just look at the Elden Beast Rememberance and it’ll tell you that. Whatever “information” you found about Placidusax & the Elden beast is completely wrong. It also clearly states that Placidusax had an Outer God and it clearly states in his remembrance that it fled. And yes Astel did come crashing down to the Nox, but not because of the creation of the Albanaurics, but because the Nox was trying to create their own Elden Lord. The finger slayer blade is a creation of Ranni. Astel leveled farum azula, by accident or on purpose is unclear, you can clearly see chunks of it all over limgrave, just to destroy the Nox. Even that gravity colossal sword (who I forgot the name of) states it’s a piece of fallen building debris. As for Melina, you just prove my point. I know she was selected as an empyrean. First is you can beat stage 1 Rennala in 1 rotation. Turns out The Night Maidens Mist spell can actually damage her through her shield, but you can not take her below 1 hp this way, thus forcing you to break her bubble once.
Second, down in the Eternal cities the mimic tears that look like the Phalanx Demon can be frozen in place by a Cold Ash of War. I was using the Frost Spear. Now it functions very strangely so I think the system isn't fully flesh out because Cold damage from a weapon directly doesn't cause them to freeze. They also won't freeze if they are in their attack cycle. What I had to do was, first I had to cast the Ash of War to either an idle cycle or walk cycle mimic, making sure to hit it on its shield face. The mimic would stop moving all together and will only resume movement if struck by the player again. I tested this out for a few hours and found you can freeze a lot of them and just leave them. I have no idea if this works on the shieldless ones as they couldn't survive the Ash of War, and like I said Cold Affinity didn't trigger this effect either.

My theory on why this happens is because holy light, such as from the Golden Epitaph battle Art, deals increased damage to Those Who Live In Death and the the Golden Order Greatsword is “made of light” it has an even more powerful effect that results in the effect seen in the game. I checked and this is the only weapon that has this effect.

If she was an shard bearer, Gideon would have said that we needed to hunt her down like he did with the other demigods. He even said we needed to fight Miquella dispute him being completely immobile and useless and new about Mohg’s existence. I have no real reason to think this but what is Melina IS Marika? It would make some sense as she tells you Marika’s exact words throughout the story. Also, maybe in the shattering Marika planned on being “shattered” as well and being separated from Radagon and being reborn as Melina. Maybe she sought out a worthy fighter to kill the Elden Beast and the reason she hunts you down if you side with the Frenzied Flame is because she just had you kill the vassal of one outer god and now that you are the vessel for another, she wants to kill you. The file name for Melina is “Marika of Daughter” not “Daughter of Marika.” Maybe that means that Melina is Marika and the “Daughter” part might refer to the world she was born into is so different than the one she ruled in, it could be considered a “daughter world” in the same way that when cells divide (or shatter) the two new cells are called “daughter cells” this might also explain the dream world as being a desperate “daughter world” created during the shattering. If this is true, we might go to another “daughter world” in the DLC.
None of this has any definitive proof to back it up but I think it has just enough coincidental details that it could fit pretty nicely with what we have at the moment.

If you look at Melina's hair color it is similar to Malenia and Radagon's, also it would make since given how both Godfrey and Rennala had 3 children each while Radagon weirdly only had 2.
I truly believe Melina is Radagon and Marika's youngest daughter and a reincarnation of the gloam eyed queen.
The Gloam Eyed Queen is possibly the only being that is immune to the French flame, given how every living being dies after the frenzied ending except Melina, I think the only way Marika could truly subdue the gloam eyed queen after her defeat was to strip her powers from her, which sealed her eye close, and force her soul into a reincarnated form aka Melina, since the lore is literally about reincarnation through the tree.
Once the frenzied flame burned everything, including the tree, the gloam eyed queen was freed from her reincarnated prison and her eye reopened, also I believe the gloam eyed queen is vassal to God of the death rite birds similar to how Marika is the vassal to eldwn beast/elden ring and how Malenia is the vassal for the God of Rot.
If there is going to be dlc I am convinced that the focus will be centered around the gloam eyed queen, Miquella, and the God of the death rite birds, another reason for my assumptions is because there are a lot of holy abilities given to the player late game and no real end game enemies to use them on tbh, and if the dlc is based around death then it would make since that players have the access to weapons and spells that are strong against those that walk in death.
Also I believe we are not finished with Milicent or Malenia aswell given how you are given an option to betray Milicent turning her into a blooming flower in order for her to evolve to a rot goddess, truly think Milicent and/or Malenia will be hidden boss encounters as their evolved forms in the dlc, at least I'm hoping so because it would suck if they added that entire lore into the game without players ever coming across the complete versions of what was hinted at with the rot goddess third bloom ect.

Speaking of new theories I have a Theory that Ranni entered into the Night of Black Knives conspiracy with the expectation that Radahn was to be slain instead of or addition to Godwyn and that the Black Knife Assassins betrayed her over that point resulting in her fate being suspended for an age. And that is why Ranni seemingly imprisoned Alecto the leader of the Black Knife Assassins in the evergaol on the moonlight alter.
As to why Alecto and the Black Knife assassins betrayed Ranni in regards to Radahn? I suspect they did so under the orders of Miquella. As we do see multiple Black knife assassins in his service guarding the seal to the Haligtree in Ordinia. If MIquella had resolved to establish his own order before the Night of Black knives it would make sense for him to have a hand in it and orchestrating the down fall of the Golden Order through it and sideline the one Empyrean with the potential to establish a rival order at the same time. This would also explain why Black Knife assassins attack Ranni's crew after she slays her 2 fingers and again has become a viable threat to Miquella's order to be.

In case you or other people didn't know, you can find more of the TRUE GIANT skulls around caelid, you can see one near radahns divine tower or even easier the giant skull infornt of elder dragon Greyoll. This can further support the theory of there once being a piece of land (perhaps farum azula) that united both the mountain top area and caelid

There need to be two types of „Fingers“ for that first theory to hold true, since it would make no sense if the Three Fingers (the ones who want to burn everything, INCLUDING the Erdtree into the ground) were controlled by the Erdtree. Like, why would the Erdtree want to orchestrate it’s own demise when it’s shown to want the exact opposite

    Small theory
There is a helmet on the back of seluviss tower and it says that an assassin took the place of blaidd and could mean that we were talking to the assassin that ranni either bewitched hence the name or he joined?
The helm is a replica of blaidds head you can wear btw

The long causeway at the beginning of the Mountaintop of Giants reminds me of another bridge -- the bridge the giants formed to make a pathway to the Kiln of the First Flame in Dark Souls 2. While I was running across, I thought the stones could be giants. So in my head-canon I call the enormous giant skeletons "mountain giants". Long dead, the land is built around their bones. The one in the video is exposed because of seismic activity. The ones in Caelid are exposed as the softer sediment and soil rot away,. The smaller fire giants represent vulcanism, so Merika's last accomplishment was to quiet a volcano.
From Rhadan's arena, you can see the Giant's Forge far up at the peak of the mountaintop. If one were to extrapolate a body from the entire head and shoulders, I wonder if that enormous giant could make use of that forge from some reasonable platform.

The giant skull of the Giants was probably there before the age of dragons came and took it from them then the Giants took it back from the dragons just speculating though
