tbh, just like most Baboon species, Mandrill (And Drill), prefer to stay on the ground rather than do the climbing, which might explain the low amount of climbing features in some exclosures (Which are still pretty terrible despite that though), however, it does put the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen in a different perspective though, as the Mandrills don't need that much climbing.
Most of the habitats I have already seen: Antwerpen, ARTIS, Magdeburg, Hannover, Osnabrück, Wuppertal, Ouwehands and I can add: Hamm, they have Mandrill. To those who did not hear Hamm before, it is near Dortmund. The habitat is quite new, build in 2016/2017. I would say Hannover is my favorite, but I also like Osnabrück and Hamm. To be fair, Tierpark Hamm would be the smallest park in the video with only 9ha. In 2013 I visited Hamm for the first time, it was terrible, just steel, concrete and mesh - but the had some quite rare animals shown. The old Mandrill habitat was very bad, I saw bleeding animals due to bites. Tierpark Hamm become unable to pay - now the city of Hamm is part of it. They changed many thing the last 8 years and already build some new habitats. I was last week in Hamm to watch the new Aviary for african birds, opend in August 2024.
Would you say Hamm is worth visiting today? I've considered going to it a few times but never could due to lack of time, but I'll probably be back in that area at some point so I'd love to know :)
@@justGoron I would say yes, but only if you can combine it with other zoos in the area, like Bochum, Dortmund e.g. I combined it years ago with "Tierpark Olderdissen" in Bielefeld, it's kind of a wildlife park and totaly free of charge. Hamm is pretty small with only 9ha and has a hugh playground and empty places, because they break off some old habitats (most monkeys). My highlight are the two very old Müller's gibbon (born ~1968), but also rare shown are Fossa, Tayra, White-headed lemur, Cougar and even the Mandrill. Normally I olny take photos of the animals or very cool habitats like Burgers' Desert; but if you like I can take also some photos to show some areas and ways in Hamm. I am from Dortmund, so Hamm is very near. But it would take a while, because I was last week there.
oh, did not know that, but it was my first thought seeing the enclosure in the video. Same was in Duisburg years ago, now the enclosure is gone it will be part of the new sea lion enclosure.
My Best Habitats for Drill or Mandrill is from Serengeti-park Hodenhagen, Zoo Magdeburg, Ouwehands Dierenpark, Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover (good) & Zoo Osnabrück. 🔴🔵🐵😉👍⭐ I like for Drills or Mandrills to get So Large Enclosure with Two Big Parts (Outdoor, such us African Rainforest with Climbing Frames & Indoor as Nest). 🔴🔵🐵🌍🌴 + 🤩😉✌✨
When you have the money and are able to travel to the US, could you please visit American zoos for PZ inspiration? I would like to see you go to some zoos here in the US.

Man, poor Mandrils seem to have been handed the short stick in zoos, hu?
Yeah it really feels that way :(
Great to see you back, Mr! But where's Rafiki?

@@slaughterhater I would absolutely love that! I'm afraid it'll be a distant dream as I'm gonna be pretty broke after moving house next month 😅
Damn european zoos really dont like mandrills lol.
It seems that way ;(
quite a lot "shitty" exhibits. The best one by far is from Zoo Hannover & Zoo Osnabrück.
yeah that's why I included the Drill as well, Mandrill getting shafted over here 🥲
