I love it! First off, wonderful video editing! Secondly, I love the old brick and the engine, trans and turbo swap is amazing. I am hoping to turbo swap my 1985 sedan I rescued last year someday. I have only ever briefly owned a turbo Volvo but I hope to eventually change that!
Around here old volvos are understandebly pretty easy to come by. And tuning and trashing on them are also common. Good luck with your own volvo project
Hi, years ago I added a turbo to non-turbo 2.3 Volvo 245 using all factory parts from a junk turbo 2.3 740. I ran a fmu on the fuel return line to richen the mixture during boost. It ran great immediately and pulled very strong. I wouldn't be surprised you need to do the same thing, you're probably misfiring from leaning mixture under boost. This could be verified with a wideband O2 sensor in the exhaust. Otherwise I really admire your fabrication skills. I know it's discouraging but I think there's an easy solution. Here's another quick test to prove its leaning out for very little cost. Upgrade your fuel return line with high pressure fuel injection hose then gradually pinch off the return line with a pair of pliers to raise the fuel pressure to the injectors while you're driving the car under load and if the problem goes away that proves you need an fmu. Ross, in Maine USA
could be a plan, and not a very expensive one either, but it still think its wierd that it breaks up at the same rpm on load and off load and that it even did it before the turbo installation, so i am going to take a look inside the distributor and see if the springs are okey that pulls back the weights for advancing the timing.
@@Foffe2000 Sorry, I missed your comment on the video that it was doing it before the turbo installation. If it's misfiring with no load but just at a certain RPM each time, it might be interesting hook up your timing light and then watch to see if the timing on the front pulley changes at that rpm when it cuts out. If it advances normally as you bring the revs up from idle and stays at that point as the engine is cutting out I think you'd know the distributor is doing its thing properly.
Sweet! I have a 240 with b23 that I've been thinking about adding a turbo to. Wonder it the kjet fuel system is up to the task. Would love to see some more videos to see if you can get it to run right!
well, this one didnt run properly at all.. but k-jetronic SHOULD be good for turbo application. The injectors puls in fuel continously on numbers of squirts per second and doesent care about where the piston is in the cylinder, it only acts on the engine rpm and the mechanical air-flow-meter witch is basicly just a flap on hinges. At the same time i havent gotten this one working properly (yet) so dont take my word for it.
@@Foffe2000 yes, that was my thoughts also. Really seems simple enough. As long as the boost level isn't too hight the fuel flap should be able to adjust fuel accordingly.
well that one guy from boost SE or whatever his shop is did a diesel conversion or you converted his block to Diesel and that seemed to work pretty well for him. he installed the diesel injectors where the spark plugs were and to use something like healicoil or I forgot what type of Steel inserts but it worked pretty well for him. he installed the diesel pump on the front of it and of course it was turboed and he also used a fuel preheater to get the fuel up to a very hot temperature from an oem volvo fuel heater. You could do the same thing with one of those GM Hot water sprayers so the fuel would be hot the second it came out of the pump. I believe his fuel pump was off of a Volkswagen and it was driven by a cam belt. Do not give up. but I completely understand your frustration with K Jet.
its a mockup tool for piping, the manufacturer is "ice engine works". They are quite expensive i think i paid about 1200 dollars for the big kit. If you are about to buy a 3d printer or know someone with one i would recomend trying to make a few yourself first and see what you think about the system.

Foffe it could be your fuel pressure regulator is bad or pump cant supply enough fuel , check filter also, also check spark plug leads foffe, The engine sound to me like your not getting enough fuel for higher rpm
I did check the fuelpressure .. that fuel-line over the roof was the return line .. if it would starve for fuel i should have had less/no fuel trough the returnline .. I didnt count on that this K-jetronic dont calculate the air-pressure .. as it was i only measured the air-flow
Looks like you need to convert one of your buildings to a shop so you can work on cars in the winter too. I guess the forks are coming off soon and will be replaced with a bucket to move snow. Are you sure you getting enough fuel at the higher rpms?
Hey Cullen, yeah some garage would be nice. But i do not deserve one since i dont keep things organised. And further more there are some threats with getting a forced break from fixing the mechanical things, i got other hobbies to and i get more time for them during the winter months. Regarding the volvo engine i am not sure on anything, but i do think the span of the ignition feels to be way off. so i am going to take the distributor apart and look if both the springs that hold back the weights inside are there and not broken.
i saw yesterday that the world record (according to them self) are 1000hp out of a 8V b23 , so its up to the fabricator (me) to prove myself now 😂 just another 950hp to go!
@@Foffe2000 If you mean Rickard Thomsson's drag racing car it makes even more, probably 1600 crank HP 😁 Insane engine, almost 20mm lift on the cams, billet head, 98mm turbo and injectors that could work as a fire hydrant 🙈
Over 20 years ago I fitted a B21ET to a RHD 244DL. Volvo never made a RHD turbo 240 because the turbo would be very close to the steering column.
