Thank you so much for painting on this paper. This is what I have been using since I started watercolour three years ago. I still have not been able to convince myself to buy a more expensive and better quality paper.
I think I learned more from this short video than I have all year. Thank you so much! I love your work, you are so accomplished, but teaching is your calling. ❤
Thank you for this video! The leaf issue is my issue. My dark color will spread to the entire leaf, a lot more and quicker than yours did. Especially if my leaf is small. I know I struggle with water control and I'm working on it. Also, sometimes my page is just not wet enough so my paint doesn't blend like I want it to. I just can't seen to get it wet enough and I think it's because I do live in a warm climate (South Florida). I am using 100% cotton cold press but sometimes it just dries too fast.Very helpful tips all around. Thank you so much!❤
Perfectly useful and very easy to understand and apply. Thank you!😊 Can't wait till it gets to be second nature like it is for you. Right now I'm at- I know what I'm doing wrong, I just can't remember it every single time my brush reaches for more water. I remember to how to properly manage my water until one of the final times i have to go back in, I get carried away and forget to dab the excess water off or something and boom, ruined it... then I'm a beginner trying to fix stuff which always goes super well and neeeeeeverrrr gets overworked. 😅
One blending technique that I use is... when doing wet on wet, blend by moving from light to dark.. like PUSH the lighter pigments into the darker pigment line, so that the wet lighter area doesn't darken. When doing wet on dry, pull the darker pigments into the lighter area so that they can get wet at the same level as the dark pigments and therefore doesn't have to lift. It also does help to use a slightly damp brush rather than wet/ sopping wet brush while blending... after all we don't want to add any more water than what is already on the paper. TLDR: USE DAMP BRUSH Wet on Wet : PUSH LIGHT -> DARK Wet on Dry : PULL DARK -> LIGHT
Use the biggest brush you can get away with. With round brushes you can get fine lines with the tip and larger ones with the belly. With small brushes, if you want to paint a larger area, you will get uneven surfaces
Excellent video and instruction. I'm one of those slower painters. Paper dries out, then too much water is added. What I also learned is that I need to plan out my paints ahead of time. You mix colors with such ease! Can you share colors that you put together in your palette?
Thx for this! I’ve been water color painting for several years now. I am more drawn to the loose, abstract style of painting/ I love the outside the lines concept. It’s freed a part of me! That said, my question is: is it important to paint ‘inside the lines’ first, to get the concept down and then move more to abstract. My instinct tells me there’s no rule for this either, which I love but just thought I’d get you thoughts on this! That’s for your sharing always, you have a gift for teaching!!
Thank you so much for your instruction. I have decided to attempt water color again because of your teachings. I’m terrified. I paint with acrylic, amateur but I love it. However, I really want to learn your techniques. My question is I want to attempt to paint my grandson as a goalie. For his graduation gift. I figure I have time to master it as best I can. What tips do you have for me :)) thank you. Also, where I live I don’t have access great art supplies. I usually stock up at Michael’s when I’m out but I have only Walmart to shop at right now to start practicing at least. But I want to buy from you. What do you recommend. Thank you!
Emma, THANK YOU!!! Quick question, when the harsh line is the outline (like the leaves vs the sides of the top blue patch, is that a function of the water control, too, or is any of it the paper and it’s inability to absorb as quickly?
My problem lately is the edges of the paper are drying to fast no matter how much I wet it. Don't know if it's the climate or what. I didn't have this problem prior to this.

Thank you for explaining some of the water control issues more thoroughly. Ridiculously useful!
All good tips and I would add practice, practice - practicing and you will see all these good tips come to fruition for you
This is such a valuable lesson. You're a born in teacher. Thank you! 😊
ThNK YOU FOR THESE AWESOME TIPS. IT’S SO HELPFUL TO BE REMINDED AGAIN. YOU ARE THE BEST!

I feel your pain my friend!
Extremely helpful. I know I will be referring back to this video. Thank you so much! ❤

Really good, helpful tips, thank you Emma!
Love the colour of your sweatshirt!!

Excellent video! I just got some Baohong Academy paper that I want to test today. I'll work on all these things you covered in this video. 😊
Useful video Emma, thanks.
Great reminders.
Really?
Excited for this one.
Thank you so much, this was very informative ❤ now I have to go play with my brush and paint. Happy New Year! Looking forward to more of your videos.
You explained this so well. Thank you.
Thank you! Love your channel, The tip about pressure causes lifting and that's what you're doing wrong, was a eureka moment for me! ❤
Oh wow!!! Thank you so much!!!
Great tips!!! Thank you
Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks Emma 😃
I have a video series suggestion...
Could you do another what to paint in your sketchbook series? ❤
Thank you for the thorough and helpful explanation! If you could talk about how to prevent the cauliflower effect, that would be super helpful. :)

The paper towel at the end looks like a smiling clown watching you paint.
😂😂😂
Lord, it does! A little creepy looking!😂
Once seen, can't unsee 😂
lol. It sure does!
Eewwee I can’t unsee it now…haha
Thank You Emma , learned a lot from this today~

Can’t say how useful this was. Thank you for taking the time x

That Canson paper was the first I used. Did not like it. Thought I sucked at watercolour. Huge improvement once I had 100% cotton.
Do you ever talk about gouache?
My problem lately is the edges of the paper are drying to fast no matter how much I wet it. Don't know if it's the climate or what. I didn't have this problem prior to this.
Are you trying to paint a wash all over one piece of paper? I recommend wetting the paper and let it sit just a minute and then wet it again
@@amandaterrio4823 I'm only doing the sky and it's only 1/3 of the paper.
Thank you!
