I think it’s so important to show the water cup and you dipping and tapping and drying the brush on paper towel. No one shows this and showing this will make a huge difference when you’re learning. Would love to see that as the norm. Thanks so much! Great tips as always!
@@cheflunar1 agreed!
Great advice! I love that brand of paint. Couple of suggestions for beginners: treat the water as part of your paint palette. Instead of mixing a color with white to make it lighter, mix with water. Give up control and let the paints and wate do their magic.
Blooms are great! Because you really can only get them I watercolors. Your painting doesn’t have to be a recognizable “thing”, colors and mixes alone are beautiful! Call your painting an abstract. Enjoy the journey more than the end result.
You truly do teach basics, which we need. Some tutorials I’ve watched for beginners is just someone painting a picture. You’re the best! Thanks so much. ❤❤❤
This is so incredibly valuable to total newbies like myself! And I bought that exact palette during a Black Friday sale 😄Thank you!
I have to say thank you so much for this...😂 I googled the words in the title of this video looking for true beginner help and got nothing like this and this morning you popped up in "suggested ".... and I am soooo glad because I did not know where to begin. I feel sure I will be working my way through your videos and watching them repeatedly to get my footing and also you have made this look so much less intimidating and so much more like fun. Thank you again ❤❤❤
I’m also a beginner to watercolor. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your work with everyone. I’ve already learned so much from you. Happy New Year!
I agree on paper. Really important
Where the paper is wet is where the paint will go. Took me so long to understand that when I first started.
You inspired me at 74 emma.great teacher.im just using cheap kids pallet and rushes at mo.ent only started with your xmas decors which I cut out to put on cards for family.as beginner yes thier not perfect but I'm happy.when funds permit I want to buy good paper and paints so this tutorial is just what us beginners need thank you 🇬🇧
The effect on 11:20 is something I saw on Instagram that got me interested. Someone traced around a leaf, then wet the inside and I guess the pencil lead kept the water's surface tension from leaking out of the tracing. Then they dipped a brush in color and then dipped it in the water in the leaf tracing and the color spread into the tracing. I have very poor hand eye coordination (aspergers) and I thought that might be an easy way to get into painting. I don't need to make a lot of strokes. I can do more dipping of the brush and let that help me.
I just bought this paint palette. So awesome!
You are such a good instructor! I am so excited because I have that palette. It's hard when you're a beginner and working with a different palette than the tutorial. Not so much with this exercise but definitely if you're doing a painting and trying to get the same colors as the instructor. Thank you for this! I'm going to watch your other beginner tutorials and start practicing!
I’m back, ready to use my new watercolors. Hope your holidays were all you expected. 😊😊
I've been watching for a couple years & have to say sure wish I had all this info when I had started. GREAT video! I've loved my Mei Liang palette but recently been using some Shinhan b/c you were but can't go wrong with ML. I also found for everyday painting of cards, recipe cards, gift tags I've been using Bee Paper I order from Walmart..so reasonable & a very good paper. It's like $22.00 for a 2 pk of 50 sheets of 9×12. If there are newbies out there I would recommend trying it. I've got some Academy on the way though. I hope all the beginners love it as much as I do! Emma is a great teach!😊😊
Thank you for the paper info. I bought some nicer paper but really don’t want to just practice on it lol
Do you have a link on that paper?
Yes please i dont want to waste my good paper i do like bee paper thanks for the info ❤
Thank you im newbe at 74 🇬🇧
Great info for me! Definitely a beginner and things never turn out as planned. 😊
This video is brilliant! I love how you take the time to explain everything slowly and show examples in real time. I recently bought your book, and I'll be diving into it soon!
I just got the supplies and found your channel! Thank you!❤
Hullo Emma, excellent work and wonderful examples for creating fun practice! If you are not enjoying your time painting you just will not do it! Making practice fun is the best way to get better, then turning practice into pictures is the best reward! Thank you for sharing this fun video, and I look forward to more videos in the future, thank you!
Thank you. I received a 60 tube set of Holbein watercolour paints for Christmas. Now I know how to use them.
Merci Emma pour toutes vidéos. Passez de bonnes fêtes de fin d'année 💜🙀🌌
Thank you ❤
Very helpful! Thank you. I actually got that brand of WC paints for Christmas!
Love it! Such a good practice even if you are into watercolor for a while! Love your videos! Greetings from Romania! ❤🤗🕊⚘️🎄👑🕊
Thank you for this tutorial, very helpful!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!🩵💕
New and afraid! Thank you so much for all of your tutorials. This one was especially helpful. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge
Excellent video!. I just subbed. Ur such a great teacher i love ur videos. I do alot of bonsai and i picked up watercolor for a winter hobby cause theres not much to do with trees in the winter but i started with chinese watercolor paintings and japanese caligraphy.Alot of techniques they use is like double loading the brush which is dipping 2 colors at the same time. Do u use that at all in ur watercolor style. And have u ever tried chinese watercolor paintings before? Keep the beginner series going!
That was a lovely tutorial!! 💞 I love seeing how the watercolor flows!! 🥰 Have you done a tutorial on having the right paintbrush for what you are trying to do? Something that explains the different brush shapes and sizes, the differences between watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and oil paintbrushes? As a novice, brushes are so confusing... The main thing I know is that Crayola and kid craft kit brushes are lousy... 😅
Take a look at this video. See if this helps. I may have to create a new one too. th-cam.com/video/RPXgHD8kXEs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=49ROWTLPq-roln0y
@EmmaLefebvre Thank you!! 🤗😍
Bookmarks are also a good use for practice work. :D Thanks for the fun tutorial.
Thank You Emma..great advice
Do you use watercolours in tubes. How do you organize them?
I received Paul Rueben’s set for Christmas
Thanks so much
Thank you very much, Emma. That was very informative,
Thank you so much! I'm not exactly a beginner, but I still have a lot to learn about water control.
Agreed! I love the reminders too, as a non-beginner. ☺
I still do these exercises. I try to paint daily. If I have no ideas or don’t want to do anything too serious I will do drills.
Best lesson ever i see here
I totally appreciate your videos. I am new to watercolor. Question: When will Gretel brushe set be in?
Muito obrigada 🌷🇧🇷
❤ dublagem automática. Beijo . Estou em Fortaleza, Ceará no Brasil
Funny I just sent you a message on another video. :)) and here we are :))
Thanks for all your tutorials! 💚✌️ I‘m from Germany and when I try to look up your materials on Amazon it‘s not possible. Could you also insert the links for the European Amazon? If it’s not too big a trouble that would be great! 👍
Nice ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️❤️
When is your Etsy shop going to be back open?
Hi! Ummm not sure. I want to create new booklets, just not sure when
I love your videos. I got a gift card and I’m a beginner, what’s the best thing to purchase. I have a small travel pallet 12 colors and nice brushes. Should I focus on paper or a bigger pallet?
You can do a lot with just 12 colors, because you can mix primary colors to make a wide range of secondaries and tertiaries. Instead, invest in good quality paper.
Est ce que votre livre est édité en français svp Merci . 🤗
Great way to start! I wish I had started like this a year ago. After getting very frustrated doing "paintings", I found something like this and I still do this kind of thing every week or every other or any time I want to paint but don't want to do "a painting" ... relaxing, helpful and fun!
100% agree on paper and it is the thing that all teachers I've watched stress: GOOD paper. I use it even for play as I don't find it much use trying to work on a technique on paper that is not going to allow the results. But I then use edges and back side for testing color as I'm painting.
After buying too many colors many that I don't use, I have moved to using limited palette (split primary plus just a few convenience colors) and then mixing colors ... just a personal preference and it allows me to take a small portable palette for painting out and about.
Thanks for this, Emma!
