i don't understand this mentality that everything "modern" and "expensive" in morocco is not "authentically moroccan". rich and middle class moroccans exist too (and they have always existed lol). it's like in new york city for example. you have the bronx and then you have soho. just because one is "wealthier" than the other and have different "vibes", doesn't mean one is less "authentic" than the other. cities can have multiple sides to it and still be authentically itself. i genuinely don't understand why so many tourists still view developing countries/cities with this narrow minded perspective. just because hivernage is different from the medina doesn't make it any less moroccan. marrakech is much more than the medina and every marrakchi can attest to that. i'm tired of tourists thinking marrakech is only souks, camels, tagines, and ancient mosques because that's just not the case. when they see malls, cafes, casinos, clubs and fancy cars they assume it's not "authentic" and has to be for tourists because no way could that be for moroccans. moroccans are poor and everything "modern" is to appease tourists... like do you hear how silly and ignorant that sounds? this is 2024, not 1900. the world is bigger than just the west. anyways, i'm not trying to attack you or anything, I just want to help you realize that hivernage is for moroccans just as much as it is for anyone else and our culture is still alive and flourishing throughout that part of town. tourists are surprised when they see that side of morocco because i guess all they are exposed to in the media is the ancient/historic side of morocco
