    this song is actually the 'theme song' for the movie rurouni kenshin, which gives a more cinematic/anthemic vibe. Their older stuff is a lot more rock, while more recent goes a bit more pop. They are also one of the best live bands out there and I would highly recommend checking out Mighty Long Fall live

    Saw them when they toured Australia... last year? (Covid makes everything blur together) They were absolutely amazing. They came out with "Eye of the Storm" and made the building shake. Then the singer walks off halfway through the set to let the band go nuts for 10 minutes and show off their skill. Great night.

    Great reaction guys. I have discovered OOR quite recently after listening so many years of US/UK/Aussie Rock/hard rock/pop. I am 54 Japanese but hardly ever listened to any of Japanese rock/pop until recently...now OOR is one my top 5 rock bands of all time. Why I like OOR is that fact that they are fantastic on stage, energetic, versatile (soft, ballads, uptempo punk, heavy, catchy, etc) songs are very well written, lyrics are positive, great Taka's vocal, great instrumentations, very well structured music, and well mixed with tempo etc. I can hear many people say OOR is a bit of Linking Park (obviously OOR likes Linkin Park) or Imaging dragon....I can a bit agree one some songs...anyway...hope you can sit down and explore more on OOR...to start, suggest you to check out. If you like Taka's voice, worth checking at least 50 songs....earlier carrer of OOR tends to be more uptempo pop punk. Nevertheless, I am bit worried about OOR after Renegades cos I do not want to OOR swallowed by one-sided music industry (too political). Cheers from Japan

    One of the main criticisms that OOR has been getting in recent years is that their sound has gotten too Westernized. To some extent, I do agree, since they have veered quite a bit away from their initial rock sound to incorporate more pop sound. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing - it's all in a band's maturation process. And really, some of their recent singles like Renegades, Stand Out Fit In, We Are etc have such meaningful and powerful messages in them that they hold a place in my heart just as their more traditionally rock songs like Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer, No Scared, Re:Make do. Plus, it's these "Westernized" ventures that have made OOR more known internationally, so I can't be mad at that.
    Their live performances give me chills, even through a screen. Taka is one of my favorite vocalists, ever. Also, Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer is a must check out! And, the We Are 18Fes performance makes me cry every time.

    • @JBieberGDragon-cd9qh
      @JBieberGDragon-cd9qh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      indeed. Idk why is it bad for them to be sound like "westernized". If you are a fan of OOR, you should know that, that's what they dream right from the start. To become big and performed around the world. They sounds like kind of rock pop but the roots of them which are the sincerity and inspirational lyrics is still there.

    • @livetogetrad
      @livetogetrad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also really miss the old sound but the newer material still sounds incredible! For me, it was a bit “woah” when 35xxxv came out and the amount of English was just x1000000 but that’s more out of surprise than anything lol. Personally, I love it when Taka alternates between the two languages hehe. I’m glad for their success over the years and that they’re able to achieve their dreams though. 🤲🏼

    • @karenholl2489
      @karenholl2489 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i got into OOR in 2020 and We Are was the song that did it for me. Like Renegades it has such "anthem" quality and the message and lyrics felt like they were speaking directly to me i almost cried the first time. then i listened to the rest of their songs and fell in love. i think because for me i came into them not as a specifically hardcore rock fan or hardcore pop fan i was able to enjoy all their sounds equally. one of my favorite things about them is their versatility and although i do have a fav album (jinsei x boku) after that the rest of them alternate between the others regardless of newer or older. and honestly, i know fans group them into their older and newer sounds but if you actually think about it, each album has its own unique sound. i feel like they are constantly experimenting with various styles and i LOVE that!

    From all the reactions that I've watched for this song, you are the only one who is quite natural and good in giving ur insights. This is really not that kind of rock since this was co-written by Ed Sheeran plus producers who worked with ONE OK ROCK for this song said that they will go for kind of british- rock type of thing. You are also on point when you said about the chorus part where it sounds compress and focused more on drums, cuz thats what the producer really said on what he sort of want the chorus part to be sound like.That's what he said on the video of "Of the making of Renegades" and posted on One OK Rock official YT account.
    Funfact: This song is the official soundtrack for Rurouni Kenshin second to the last installment of the said franchise, entitled Rurouni Kenshin: The Final. One OK Rock is the one who sang all soundtracks of the 4 movies in this franchise.
    Also, I highly really recommend to watch this band on their Live performances becoz they are way better live than studio one. They are also known for having a great live performances and great in commanding the audience. Try to check out their old stuff becoz their old songs are more rock, emo-ish kind of genre. Especially their live performances on Jinsei X Boku tour in Yokohama Arena, Mighty Long Fall tour in Yokohama Stadium, 35xxxv tour in Saitama Super Arena,Ambitions Japan Dome tour and their Special Live in Nagisaen.
    Ending Story?
    One By One
    Juvenile
    Never Let this go
    No Scared
    Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer
    Jibun Rock
    Take me to the top
    Few songs that I can name which are kind of heavy.
    Hoping for more OOR from ur channel 😊

  • @usedtobemyself
    @usedtobemyself 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    They used to be much more rock focused in their earlier years but their title tracks have gotten more pop focused over time, which I personally like but many older fans don't. In the end I think music goes with the time and when you are in the business for so long you you wanna switch it up. Plus mass appeal of course also plays a role. Either way, I live their music and nothing they release has ever been a complete miss for me.

      @@johnnyneedham9831 it's hard to say what genre they are but I'd say they are metal (mostly). They experiment a lot. Dir en grey one of the legends of Japanese rock/metal. The band is around 25 years old and never changed any member. They inspired a lot of youngest japanese bands (for example The Gazette). Some people say that their vocalist Kyo is the best living metal singer. He has crazy vocal range and can do some really disturbing things with his voice. Other band members are really good and skilled musicians too.

      That's actually irrelevant. He's in News so many2 years ago while he still a teenager. IMO, the song meant to be sounds pop cause it also co-made by a pop singer. Not to mention OOR recent song indeed goes more and more pop-y than their early days.

    This song " Renegade " the lyrics are so powerful like we experience all over the world the chaos that's happening for us, the pandemic, our fellow people who got sick, who killed because of racism, some foreigners hate asian because of Covid-19 that the China who started in their land and some of us experiencing mental health issues because we don't know when to end this kind of disease , all of us all over the world wearing face mask to get rid of virus and not to get sick and not to waste our money because we got positive in viruses so we as a people all over the world kindly be kind to one another, love one another and we have to stand on our own and let us not be afraid because of this, there is God who watch all of us suffering in our daily basis of life to live so please we have to be strong and please support this Rock Band " ONE OK ROCK " and their song " Renegade " the lyrics are so attach in our hearts just listen to it and realize. This song deffo has an anthem feel but OOR have a lot of range in style! Try listening to their songs pre-35xxxv. They are heavier and I guess more obviously “Japanese” for lack of another word.

    Japanese labels have different copyright laws or some nonsense. Idk. Love ONE OK ROCK. I love their stuff across the board. They never disappoint.

    Pretty bad. This band was already better and that was at the time that they were not from an American label
