In this video we'll show you how to build a Stud Wall. This isn't actually classed as a plasterers job but it's still essential for anyone who's looking to start plastering their own home.
So for that reason, we'll show you the basics to carpentry and give you a basic understanding on how to build your own wall. This method relies on using timer so all you'll need is a tape measure, a saw and a hammer!

Good video with some very good tips. your first initial mark with the level was abit off on the floor! like you said, even a cheaper laser level is worth it, for any trade realy. good piece of kit to have in the van.

Brilliant video! How would you attach it to a concrete floor and a drywall?
Concrete floor just drill and rawlplug it in. drywall it really needs to be fixed to a stud or end. If you cant id personally cut into the drywall and add a stud to fix too but if the bottom plate and header are fixed solid the end stud could float i guess
Thanks Blaine. Top vids as always. What do you suggest the best fixings to use if you are keying a stud wall to existing stud wall. I need to add a stud wall in the bathroom to take a shower cubical but the other walls are all stud and plaster. We moved recently from a solid brick Victorian house. It’s now like living in a box of matches and the sound insulation is shizzer! 🙄
Cheers for the video Blaine. Are the noggins necessary if plasterboard is being fixed to the uprights??... I can't see how the noggins add strength??.... what am I missing?? :-)
It's designed to pull the timbers straight - it's not necessarily strength. It helps to make the wall straight when the timbers are pull together in the centre 👍

Great video Blaine , I put up a stud wall before the lockdown 3 months ago no plaster at the moment but when I eventually get some is the plasterboard still ok to scim over regardless of how long it has been up?
should be fine man, what can happen if its been a particularity long time is the boards dry out slightly and they end up having a bit more suction, if you get this problem just put a coat of pva and go over it once its tacky

Thanks for the very helpful video nicely presented. I take it the height of the wall is less than 2.4m so you can use one board? I always seems to get a higher wall where I have to have a second board on top the requires noggins in line, which is more of a pain to do!
Yeah mate... It's 2.3m so I've got enough height! That is a pain - I'm lucky with this one pal 😂
How do you know that the line on the floor from the laser level is straight
You don’t - you usually have to parallel that line for the opposing wall or measure it according to the room. The last will only give you the plumber like is facing 👍
Hi Blaine, great content as always. I hope you have time to answer this question. I have wattle and daub wall with lime plaster. In the hallway the plaster is blown and cracked. I was thinking of treating it with a fibre glass mesh then apply multi-finish on top of it. Do you think it’s a false economy or should I take it back to the brick? 🧱
Hi mate. You shouldn't plaster over a lime rendered wall - you would essentially be trapping the moisture. Lime render is designed to breath whereas the plaster we use now isn't. It's probably best to use a lime based finished plaster or start again as mentioned. I know it's a pain but that's the right answer. Hope this helps my friend 👍

Isn't that plaster board on the right?, if so doesn't the frame not need to be the thickness of the plasterboard further back rather than flush?
I'm over boarding the the section on the right. It saves waste and helps with sounds insulation 👍

90mm Pasloade Nails. That's what I've used with this gun...hope this helps!

The closer your cut is to the step the less wobble you get, also please move your hand away from the saw. Slightest knot or slip and could be In Trouble. Great video though
