  • It’s spooky season and in my house, that means witch fingers! When I was a kid my Mom would make these creepy-looking cookies for me to bring to school on Halloween and let me tell you they separate the brave souls from the not so brave souls. You would think adults wouldn’t get creeped out by them but my Dad and Paul think otherwise. Scare your friends this year with this super creepy, deliciously scary cookie!

    🧙‍♀️ Witch Fingers
    2 cups butter, room temperature
    2 cups icing sugar
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. Almond extract
    5 ½ cups flour
    2 tsp. Baking powder
    2 tsp. Salt
    1 ½ cups almond flour
    🗺 Directions
In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter until smooth. Scrape the bowl and with the mixer on a low speed, add the icing sugar a spoonful at a time. Scrape the bowls again and add the eggs one at a time followed by the almond extract. By hand add half the flour, the baking powder, salt, and almond flour. Once combined, continue adding the flour until you get a dough-like consistency. The dough should be able to hold its shape and not be crumbly.
Using a mini ice cream scoop, portion the dough and begin shaping. Keep your fingers slightly separated, apply light pressure, and roll the dough between your fingers. Place the fingers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and press a peeled almond to create a nail. Using a knife, draw some lines on the knuckles and pop the tray in the oven at 325°F for about 15 minutes.
Once the fingers have cooled, remove the almonds, but keep them close to their matching finger. Using the Wilton Decorating Gel in red, outline the nail bed and press the almond back into place.

    🌟 Review and Tips
    1. Let the gel sit for a few hours or overnight, and then serve!
    2. Don’t press too hard on the almond, otherwise, the dough underneath will be too thin and burn.
    3. If you want to colour the dough I would recommend using sugar cookie dough instead. The dough I used doesn’t colour well.
    4. If you or someone you know is allergic to nuts you can use a different dough recipe and replace the almond fingernail with a raisin.
    5. It doesn’t matter how old you are, someone will find these cookies creepy which makes them SO worth it!
