A three-minute video full of content and entertaining as well. Imagine the video this guy will make if he does a 1-hour special episode. Great job once again and I'm still waiting for a Q&A video. Keep up the excellent job.
Great story ! I hope the Beatles thanked that sweet girl. Let us also not forget the New York DJ Murray The K, who promoted the Fab Four heavily and was called the fifth Beatle for a while. " Murray the K reached his peak of popularity in the mid-1960s when, as the top-rated radio host in New York City, he became an early and ardent supporter and friend of The Beatles. When the Beatles came to New York on February 7, 1964, Murray was the first DJ they welcomed into their circle, having heard about him and his Brooklyn Fox shows from American groups such as the Ronettes (sisters Ronnie and Estelle Bennett and their first cousin Nedra Talley). The Ronettes met the Beatles in mid January 1964, just a few weeks before, when the Harlem-born trio first toured England (the Rolling Stones were the group's opening act). The Beatles and Decca Records (distributor of Philles Records, the Ronettes' U.S. label) jointly threw the Ronettes a welcome party in London. When the band arrived in New York, Murray was invited by Brian Epstein to spend time with the group, and Murray persuaded his radio station (WINS) to let him broadcast his prime time show from the Beatles' Plaza Hotel suite."
Great Video, I love that all your videos have such a distinct identity, like how your "She's Leaving Home" episode is a bit more comedic by the end, and the "Getting Better" episode is a bit more suspenseful. Keep up the great work.
The DJ found someone who knew an employee of BOAC (Airline mentioned in Back In The USSR) and that person was asked to pick up their latest single and bring it back. The station was flooded with calls and had to make a tape of the Single with an exclusive claim played over a short part of the song so other local stations wouldn't rip off his coup. But he did send out copies to DJ friends in other markets who made their own exclusives...
I didn't know this story. Obviously the Beatles would have become famous in the USA even without Marsha, but Marsha's story is beautiful. The story told by Audio insanity is also beautiful
Marsha Albert's love for the Beatles and Washington DC DJ Carroll James' playing of "I Want To Hold Your Hand" for the first time in America helped set things in motion for the Fab Four in the US. This did not go unnoticed by Brian Epstein, which explains why one of the first Beatles concerts in America was in Washington DC.
Just found out about your vids (The Yoko Ono one was my first). Gotta say, what you talk about and how you do it is really nice to listen to. On top of that, found out about some cool, chilling background songs you used (like Football Head) :) I also got one question: Are you planning on doing a video on "Tomorrow Never Knows" any time soon? Keep it up!
'Misery', 'Ask me why', 'Please please me', 'Love me do', 'P.S. i love you', 'Do you want to know a secret', 'There's a place' Thank you very much! More requests will follow 😊
I knew this story. It, of course, had to have spark but The Beatles were just that great that I'm sure they would have broke big irrespective of other events.
Your videos are great! I'm so stoked to have found your channel. Keep up the great work, and please consider an " I Am the Walrus" video, that would be awesome. Peace
About a year ago I went on an Elvis website on a thread that was bragging about how Presley had the most number one hits of anyone in history thus making him the best ever performer. I pointed out that, not only did the Beatles Write most of their songs while EP did not, but by the time the Beatles hit the charts the competition was Much, Much, stiffer than it had been when most of EP's songs made number one. Also the Beatles hit American charts in 64 and broke up by the end of the decade while Presley's hits covered more like a 15 year span. I actually had the owner of the site admitting that, given those facts, the Beatles pretty much kicked Elvis's ass.
I don't know what you mean when you say that under pressure Capitol had to release an album (with the song "I Want To Hold Your Hand"). I don't think that particular song was ever on an album until years later when it was released on an artificial album called "Singles."
It was released at the end of Dec '63 but was slated to be released in January 1964. It just forced Capitol to push the date forward a few weeks. This story is a a bit of a beat up really. They were always going to knock America out. This girl played a very small part.
Okay, young feller, I like your vids and your passion for the Fab Four. May I just point out, as one who was around to watch the first Ed Sullivan show.... a slight anachronism with the length of the girl's skirt in your re-enactment. I can see you made efforts with the hair and stuff, but the skirt is a little too short for 1964. Maybe consider getting a 60+ year old consultant for accuracy?
I enjoy your videos (including this one) but sometimes they don't live up to their titles. This one is a good example because it in no way explains the song itself, just how it came to be first played on US radio. BTW: I can't help but wonder if things would have ended up any different if she had not done that and the record had been released when Capitol had originally scheduled it. I have a feeling that the "Beatles invasion" would still have happened but maybe a few weeks later...
One time I remember wen I had a rock and shirt because that was the only thing close to the beatles .and I tell my friend the next day the reason him wearing this shirt it’s because of the beatles. He responded with .the beatles aren’t even a rock band .i just stood quietly and thought some people are just born stupid.
Very cool. I don't remember ever knowing about Marsha Albert. Here's some more I just learned. The CBS show she saw as scheduled to be aired on November 22, 1963, but the murder of JFK caused CBS to cancel and the whole piece didn't air until December 10. She eschews any credit, though she did get to meet the Beatles when they first came to the States, and she was given that vinyl 45 smuggled in from England that she introduced on the air. www.cbsnews.com/news/beatles-helping-hand-shuns-fame/
I am an old school Beatles fan and I never heard this story. It is great!
