Total respect! High water runs, the Sprint, Winion and Ogwen were my high point…walked away smiling anyway. Strong mates go a very long way. Happy days.
Those are all great runs! And yes, it's all about the people you share the river with.
I like that way you've captured all the rapids from start to finish.
Well, not quite, but nearly all of them. I chopped a little at the beginning and end.
@MatthewBrookKayaking It's an excellent video all the same. It brings back memories of when I paddled the Dart at those levels 20 years ago.
Thank you. Glad to give you the opportunity to reminisce!
That is an absolutely awesome level. Just watched the short of the beatering. On the approach I thought to myself "river right? That's ballsy..." 😂
Well, it was only my misjudgment on the entry. A smidge more to the middle would likely have solved it.
@@MatthewBrookKayakingyeah, that slight tongue in the middle (where you managed to scratch to before you flipped and flushed) was where I was expecting you to go. You took the scenic route! Read and run is a lot easier watching a screen than it is when you're in the middle of piles of towering holes that are trying to eat you!
Amazing paddling. Way above my level. Dealt with them holes with style. Love it 😊
Thanks Stuart! It came close to being above my level at a few points too! 😄
Kickass!
@@spaceman61 thanks.
Wow...this looks amazing. Surfing at 20:55 looks so....fast :D Impressive how powerful the water is.
It's such a nice wave! Genuinely worth hiking up from the take out just for that, I'd say! 😂
And yes, the snowmelt water really packs a punch!
I remember getting surfred in that hole at @2:35 for about 2 minutes at that level in about 1997. I absolute cacked my pants 😂
Yeah, there are some savage ones in there! And you will have had none of the advantages afforded by modern gear/boat designs. Fair play to you!
@@MatthewBrookKayaking I had my trusty Prijon Rockit, state of the art at the time! Everyone else was paddling Spuds. I was only about 17 and it was by far the biggest thing I'd been on at the time. I was absolutely packing it 😂
@@DrRepper no doubt! That's seriously cool!
Great video, I was ducking and diving with you lol.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
We were there last weekend but decided not to paddle and looking at that I’m glad we did, that was insane, definitely something to get the adrenaline pumping, we probably would have run the loop with a guide but decided on some sea surfing instead.
Good decisions make good stories. Well done.
The Loop at this level is an absolute blast, but it is nonetheless worthy of respect. If you are ever in need of a guide, feel free to ping me an email.
Never paddled the upper dart, great to see what it looks like in high water. Looks like you had a lot of trees to dodge!
One of the best runs in the UK, regardless of water level. But yes, at this level it is a very serious undertaking, not least because of trees!
This looks rowwwwdy!
That is precisely the word! It's a punch-out in there!
Amazing level! Makes me want to get back on a huge upper! Good to know euthanasia isnt awful at that level 😂
Favourite spate section either middle Tawe or upper dart
Yeah, Euthanasia itself isn't too bad - just the consequence of errors compounding. But the whole thing is not to be taken lightly.
That's awesome. Love the Middle Tawe. Such a great section.
That has to be theeeee best cut to a subscribe plug I’ve ever seen haha is that in what they call the mad mile ? . Good stuff rode that seam out well , your play boating really shows !!
Thank you. I was fairly happy with it! Yes, I believe that would all still qualify as Mad Mile - it's anything from the Ledges down to Pandora's.
@@MatthewBrookKayaking I've never paddled the dart yet , am based in the northeast UK . I've read about the mad mile and how big it can get . Looks like you had a one to remember !
It's a great section, no matter what the level is!
Not just big volume G5, but quite technical at that! Euthanasia looked, err fun! 😮 My favourite UK big volume run is the Talybont section of the Usk when it’s in spate. Big waves, but an absolute blast in a playboat!
Some elements are definitely very techy, despite the volume. Others probably appear punishing/techy due to my own incompetence!
That's an awesome section too! Love a high-water playboat run.
That river was HUGE!
Yeah, it was pretty massive!
Super paddle. The trees were giving me anxiety. What kind of rolls were you doing? Back deck?
Yeah, it's a serious undertaking at this level - not least because of the trees!
Good question. They're likely to be variations on backdecks, yes.
That last wave was ace! How much did you want the Nova on there?
Oh man, I'd hike the Nova up there just for that wave. It was class!
@@MatthewBrookKayaking do it!!!!
You'll have to show me down some time. If we could do a 1 step lap first just to get in the groove though that would be appreciated... maybe followed by a 2nd step lap. Take it step by step.
Best high water run. Mawddach obviously 😅 Followed maybe by the Dee for a chill.
Would love to do a really high water Roy I hear that works well.
Definitely. You need to get down here!
Mmmm, love the Mawddach! Such a good run.
Lower Vecchio on Corsica is nice when it is full.
Nice! I've had a few people recommend Corsica recently. Never been hugely on my radar, but perhaps it should be!
Corsica is stunning paddling… especially if you have water, if not it’s still stunning!
Looks fun! Is that a trio of puffy Steezes? How do you like it
The others were in Puffy Steezes, but mine's a GOAT. I love it as a highly capable river-runner.
@@MatthewBrookKayaking GOAT all the way 👍
That looks great. Was it last weekend or this week?
This is from Saturday last week.
What level was it ?
3rd step, but I'm not really sure what that equates to on the Dunnabridge gauge. Just shy of 2m perhaps?
