Small tip: You can use furniture to block to doors from opening inward which in turn prevents most invasions from getting in to your homes while still letting yourself and other NPCs in. I personally use the required chair to block my doors. The only exceptions are enemies that break down doors all together and special abilities like Reapers that don't care. Maybe I should figure out how to make sentry friendly homes to better defend when monsters do get in.
the hoik trick (the easy 3 platforms stacked on top of each other and each hammered into staircases leading "up to" the wall) makes it possible to very easily make "one-way walls" that you and, iirc, even summons and sentries can shoot through. They even work while the platforms are actuated, somehow.
With wire and actuators, just have a small lava bridge outside your house. Have the actuators also toggle a wall in front of your door. Memory serves, it's 13 blocks for a bucket so coins don't burn in lava. NPCs don't wander outside because lava, and you passively get drops (although in hard mode it can be a bit slow -.-)
it doesn't cost much and you'll probably keep coming back to it after discovering mods i've made many many friends of many years because of terraria i couldn't thank the devs enough
Your use of item popups and general hud elements really makes it feel in universe I was not expecting the nic cage god slap that feral claws equip was perfect

you could try making an underground prison for all your npcs to help make sure it's annoying to get to the npc you want to and also that the npcs are stuck forever and couldn't leave even if they wanted to
i find it funny that the player has the mechanic, which means he already beat skeletron, so he could easily handle a blood moon, yet he still died anyways lol
well i counted only some of the zombies coming and there were over 50 and mind you that's being careful not to count them twice so that's prob like 100 zombies coming in at like 2 seconds so depending on what he had aka if he had a weapon for crowd control well if he did that'd be easy but if he doesn't he's going to die

This strategy probably beats my door blocking furniture trick. Though I've been thinking of how I could integrate sentries for a last minute and more permanent defense.
@@benji-menji I mean, a torch on each side of the door can also work perfectly fine for almost anything...with a single exception goblin army, iircgoblin peons actually break doors, not open them
@@benji-menji in case of playing on tmodloader and having shorter npc's (like the squirrel from fargo souls) you can use a trapdoor to get into the room

I haven't killed the Guide in my world. He didn't open the door for me during (a blood moon) night... I use him more than the wiki. I like Zach and i couldn't kill him... ... BUT THEN WE HAVE THIS GUIDE RYAN AND JACK IN MY FRIENDS WORLD- This is why I didn't hesitate. Amazing video + the ending was literally me XDD

i just put blocks in front of the doors
that prevents enemies from breaking them down and prevents the npcs from getting killed
I used to put a platform on the doors, but then I realized it doesn’t look good
