This commencement speech of Robert F. Smith was brilliant throughout. It was memorable and substantive and insightful and resourceful and intelligent and inspiring and human .... and then it was generous, which should be our most basic human trait. This whole speech should be required viewing for every graduate. Robert F. Smith is clearly a very intelligent man, in every way. He has instantly become one of the more memorable people for me, and I will be looking to know more of and about him.

Dr. Robert Smith is leaving behind a legacy. I'm truly spellbound by his enormous generosity. There is a saying, "Reach One, Teach One." Class of 2019 at Morehouse College will be memorable forever. The 400 graduates of this class are so blessed to be able to begin their careers without a tremendous debt hanging over their heads. This is truly a dream come true. I'm simply elated that these young people will benefit from the generosity of Dr. Robert Smith. If they all remember to pay it forward, they will make an epic difference 400 times over.

Hi, I'm an university student from South Korea. I've heard about this incident via Korean youtube channel, that highlighted only the speaker's announcement of paying students' loan. But after listening the full speech, I was deeply impressed that he is not only paying their loan, but also paying back his debts to the whole society and culture that made him. The influence of these intangible properties plays significant roles for every person, regardless of the race, gender, and age. And that's why I was highly motivated and now make a promise to myself to be like him. Morehouse College, thank you for sharing this incredible speech to us. Even though I'm not your student, I've learned more than what my college had given to me.

There is difference between being rich and being wealthy, the key difference is wisdom. Robert has been those silent wealthy( not rich) people, not surprised that most people have not heard about him.
Robert F. Smith, sir, you did that. I thank you for your INCREDIBLE gift to these promising young men who are forever in debt to you and your family's generosity. What an amazing gift and blessing. God Bless You, sir.

I hope these young people are listening to this brother speak about Black community. They must come into the knowledge of creating and reestablishing the black community. This gesture of sending them into the world without debt has started them on the road to become paragon's in their community. They now have the resource to go out get gainful employment and start off on the track to save and develop a wealth to put back into not just themselves but their communities. They must keep this thought in mind for their "nation" and I emphasize that word. The Nation we are in is not the nation we must protect. Our nation is our people.

Well said.
I never knew this man until now. He is my hero. Way to go. Until now I thought rich black people are only good at showing off bling bling and useless expensive cars, empty mansions and watches.. But now I know there are some black Angels with great hearts
God Bless You, sir.
best commencement address EVER...congratulations class of 2019! robert f. smith is a hero.
sunshinegirl1217 Better than Obama’s?
This Man of God has just changed the Struggle of Every Black Man in America! We are the same age and I have never been more proud of any Man for any reason for the Love he displayed to the Morehouse class of 2019! If I could I would take similar measures! God Bless U and everyone connected to U forever My Brother!🙏🏽🎓👍🏽. Well done!
Thaaaaaaat's riiiiiight! Shalawam Ahch
Dear America, please make this man your next President.
Unfortunately I never heard of this gentleman before, but what a good role model.
Awesome Speech!!! I applaud him for giving back!!! God is good!!! I hope these young men are immensely successful in their chosen careers!!!
lead and teach by doing ... this man is a solid example of a true leader ...
Goosebumps while watching this, may gods blessings be upon them
You sir have a heart of gold. Rewarding people who have struggled and worked to better their lives. I wonder how many "entitled" whiners there will be? I would like to thank you for your gift of investing in the future of that class. That gift will change lives for the better. No polarized politics, no personal agenda, just a pure gift from the heart.
What a generous amazing gift he is giving. Love his heart!❤️❤️❤️
This make me think...what could be done to help by millionaires? By half-millionares? By regular folks?
Amazing! Generous and full of love! Congrats Morehouse Class of 2019!
Amazing leadership! Profound kindness and vision and wow am I inspired!
Danish person here 🇩🇰 crying, this was absolutely beautiful, and what a powerful speech 🙌😮
I am glad that the peace of mind spreads to a kind and peaceful world.
This year, 2019 marks the 400th year when the first slave ship sailed off the shores of west Africa, carrying men, women and children who were held captive as slaves on the white man's land. And for Mr. Smith to have done this for 400 men? There's no better way to define freedom than this gross act of generosity.
Thank you Mr. Smith. You have really left an unending mark in the 400th year.
Incredible, God bless him! We need more of our community working TOGETHER!
Just Great! My respects for your noble thoughts and action.....
I pray that these boys repay the favor! My son will be a Morehouse Man! We will expect y’all to Show Up. Amen !
That was powerful. My eyes welled up towards the end there too.
I'm just posting this, because I couldn't find it on my old mobile device and then forgot about it. I recently purchased a new mobile phone. I forgot that I could pull this up on TH-cam. Our son, Daniel, who is a , I believe a 4th or 5th generation, was in that graduating class of 2019!!! Dr. Robert F. Smith was a blessing!!! In addition, he took care of the Parent Plus Loans!!! Hallelujah!!! That was Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, all in one!!! This was a true blessing!!! Blessings to all of the 400 young men and their families!!! GOD IS GOOD!!! Doc B
Smith’s speech was long but Very much worth listening to even without the substantial surprise gift delivered at the end. What a blessing for the class of 2019!

"Greatness is born out of the grind. So embrace the grind. A thoughtful and intentional approach to the grind will help you become an expert in your craft."
Darn right.
There is SO much in Smith's speech that sets up the announcement of his gift beautifully, from talking about the opportunities he was afforded to his recognition of social conditions to encouraging Morehouse's class of '19. Enjoyed every single minute and I'll watch it again with my teenage son.
"A bet on yourself is likely a good bet"...Robert Smith and Morehouse class of 2019; God knows even from here in Kenya this moment has its place in History. God bless your big heart.
I love what he said at the end... "May God always hold you in the cradle of HER hand". Awesome!
Well done and appreciated Mr. Smith! Great gesture for future endeavors for these brothas!
‘Between doubt and destiny is action ‘ 🙌🏿

We only have 13 black billionaires!
This made me shed a tear of happiness last year. Had to rewatch during these tough times. Still makes me shed a tear. Also makes me realize, there are so many good people out there, we are going to be alright.

We need to see much more of this happening.with all the black Millionaires we have in sports, music & film, there's no reason why this can't become a tradition
They can create a fund raising platform specifically for erasing student loan debt. If I had the money and/or connections, I'd start one AND CONTRIBUTE TO IT
All I can is Bravo Mr. Smith, Congratulations to the Class of 2019 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽, I’m at a lost for words👌🏽

Probably the most amazing & impactful act of charity I've ever seen. And for all those wealthy people out there performing acts of charity, this is one that makes the most sense. I hope the rest are catching a clue, quick!
