That's a wonderful experience, Anari! 😊 It makes a big difference when he's describing the "Hilltop"! Howard University is such a special place. Harry Belafonte spoke the year I graduated (00'). I was trying to figure out who this guy was and why people liked him. Was he actually a Dr. Or something? I guess he died ? A famous Dr. That was trying to cure cancer?
Lord, I can’t even watch this without crying. This man is the epitome of what a Black man is & should be. He is an example for not only black little boys but black men as well. This is black excellence. It’s so sad he died so soon.

I’m white male in my 60’s and thought this man glowed enlightenment He was evolved. I have two friends both colon cancer survivers and black under 40 and also both very special human beings ( as we all are) when I heard of chadwicks death from something so close to home it really shook me. It should not shock it’s extremely prevalent among black YOUNG males but rarely discussed . Chadwick saw it as personal issue which was his choice and right . Their was something about him you did not need to be black to feel most know him from black panther but he made other epics ( ie a message from the king ) where he through his talent portrayed a really important message consistently . That message well that’s yours to find . A great loss but a spirit like his does not just fade into the abiss . Awards trophies get dusty his memory will be fresh forever .
“When God has something for you, it doesn’t matter who stands against it. God will move someone that’s holding you back away from a door and put someone there who will open it for you”. Thankyou ❤️
Slightly sickened by how many people are arguing he somehow isn't a legend, by claiming stuff like "dying from cancer does not make you a legend." or "He wasn't even known until Black Panther". Absolutely none of that matters or is even remotely correct. The people preaching that nonsense, fail to understand this: *Chadwick Boseman was (and forever will be) a true legend and real life superhero because of everything he achieved, while suffering from cancer and possibly being aware of the fact that it would soon claim his life.*. Now, despite the level of expression the English language affords us, I cannot find the words to properly express the extent of my admiration and respect for him. And neither can I find the words to properly express how much he has genuinely inspired me. May he rest in peace!
Stupid, ignorant jealous people is what they are! They deep down know who that Man is! We are saying he is a legend because he is! It is who he is a a person, not the role he plays in a film. And by the way the character he played, he wore those characters! And it takes real genuine talent for one to do that! Chadwick Boseman, you are a legend and forever will be! Don't care what anyone says!
He filmed movie attended every speech and worked countless hours while battling cancer this dude is without a doubt a legend and anyone who disagrees is probably a failure in life lmaoo

Yes I think he was holding back the tears. When he looked out in the audience he saw himself in those graduates. He definitely spoke from a place of familiarity.
Did you notice he was praying before he was called up for the speech. I was very sad but now I know he was created to be with us just for 44 years and he fulfilled his purpose. See you at home solder.
"Sometimes you need to feel the pain and sting of defeat to activate the real passion and purpose that GOD predestined inside of you." Felt that in my soul. What an inspiring story. Keep pushing Dr. Boseman!
This man had an immense amount of character dignity and faith. He stood as a proud man not looking for sympathy or even acknowledgement of his pain and suffering. In my mind that’s why he didn’t share his diagnosis. He didn’t want colon cancer to define him

"I'd say find purpose rather than a job or a career. And some times you've got to get knocked down before you can figure out what your fight is. Don't take the easy path. Take the harder one. The more complicated one. The one that has more failures at first than successes. The one that has more ultimately proven to have more meaning, more victory, more glory, then you will not regret it. Now, this is your time. (Our) legacy is not wrapped up in the money you will make, but in the challenges you will choose to confront. Press on with pride. Press on with purpose. I love you ... forever." ~ Chadwick Boseman, Ph.D

I'm Guilty of Becoming Obsessed With Watching Clippings of The Honorable Dr. Chadwick A. Boseman. I will yell it from off the tallest mountain. I'm not a shamed. Chadwick demise was just two days after my Mom's demise August 26, 2007. My bornday is September 3, 1982. I saw my Mom dead on my birthday. And her funeral was just the day after that. So I have not celebrated my born day every since. I have became obsessed with Watching Clippings of Chadwick almost everyday on TH-cam because it's still just to hard to believe that he has transitioned. I wish that when he was at HU even if I couldn't get in there that I would've stood on the outside of the fence to listen to his speech. Considering I live in Washington D.C. myself. IT WAS POWERFUL! Chadwick bought James Brown back to life when he did the movie, 'Get Up On It'! That's when my love for him blossomed because I could not believe how good he played that role! I'm a huge James Brown fan and I still play all his music to this day! Dr. Chadwick Boseman accomplished so much in such a short time. But he still was taking too soon. Honorable Dr. Chadwick A. Boseman I admired your strength and dignity. You are, will and forever would be my Black Hero of my Generation. You are Amazing, Intelligent, Influential and not to mention Handsome Black Man. Your strength and character has me starting today to work even harder and go for what God put me here for. I mean I work for D.C. government and I'm grateful. But this is not what God put me here for. You make an excellent role model for our Black Men.I'm going to end here because I'm beginning to cry. The greatest thing about his life is his acknowledgment of God in his life. This is the greatest example and what we all should be doing in everything gives thanks. Knowing that God works all things for our good
No! The greatest thing is that he put others before his needs and helped children with cancer while fighting in silence. He was is and will always be a hero and a king.
RIP Chadwick Boseman. A fellow Howard alumni. He went there when I was there and probably took some of the same classes since I took many theater related classes. I don't quite recall him but I knew all the teachers and the struggles he was talking about during that time including the sit in, something I witnessed during that time. His life and career had a purpose and he was truly blessed. That story of him getting fired from the soap opera was "All My Children" and the actor they replaced him with was none other than T'Challa's nemesis Killmonger. Michael B Jordan replaced that role for him and in fact, the writers had taken some suggestions that Chadwick had talked to them about and developed the character he played after they unceremoniously fired him for Jordan. He had a short but brilliant career and was such a great human being and a beautiful soul. He will be deeply missed.
Full circle like how he came to thank Denzel at the Black Panther premiere for paying his way for summer classes in Oxford. "Howard required directing students to take acting classes and one summer, Boseman's teacher, The Cosby Show star Phylicia Rashad, wanted him to enter a summer coarse at Oxford. When Boseman couldn't pay for the summer program abroad, Rashad enlisted a friend to help out with Boseman's tuition. The actor wouldn't learn until some time later that it was none other than Denzel Washington who generously provided the funds." " "I've basically been holding this secret my whole career. When I came back, I got a beneficiary letter and it said Denzel Washington paid for you," Boseman recounted in 2018 during a Tonight Show interview with Jimmy Fallon. "I was like, 'What?!' I never wanted to say that until I met him." "Boseman and Washington finally met in person at the 2018 NYC premiere of Black Panther and their exchange was sweet and hilarious. According to Boseman, when he introduced himself and told the story about Oxford, Washington cracked, "Oh so that's why I'm here? You owe me money. I came to collect!"
Chadwick Boseman was a rare Gem. His humility, intelligence goes beyond his age. I remember watching Draft Day and i was very impressed with his acting, i can safely say its not his role of King T'Challa that made the world love him, I can safely say he was loved because he was a brilliant actor in all the roles he played but above all he was a wonderful human being and the world is at a loss without Chadwick. I have to say Rest easy Chadwick and fly with the Angels. You played your part, you fought a good fight, you have finished your race and you kept your faith. Rest in peace King.
While not all, many celebrities become jaded by life. They stop caring about others, and often are rude offscreen. Chadwick was different. He truly cared about all people, and became a film icon while battling colon cancer. A old proverb states “the wise are hung and the fools are glorified, at least while they are living.” Boseman was an example of this. RiP. You will be missed.
For a while I felt sorry for myself since I am going through a simillar issue. After he passed, he taught me to respect my struggle with this harsh desease. I am stronger and I will fight this cancer with all that I have until the very end.
Brian Malakwen He stands w/ those greats like Sidney Poitier, Harry Belafonte, Lena Horne, Dihann Carroll, Cicely Tyson, Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis! The standards they set in their careers set the example for actors like Chadwick to follow! Now Chadwick has done the same for the now & next generation of black actors to follow. HE PAID IT FORWARD!
@@christophergregory1 yup, He really did. Will also be sure to check out all those actors and singers you have mentioned. Standards too low nowadays but glad for those who came before us and for those that remember n keep the flame lit
Brian Malakwen yes, not only were these black actors the epitome of grace, confidence & integrity during their careers, they were that during Jim Crow. Some of the worst times for people of color! Sidney Poitier never played a stereotypical role. He did that on purpose. He was the 1st black man to win an academy award in the early 60’s. He played roles that now would be played by any race of man, but back then were written for white men. Even in the movie “In The Heat Of The Night”, he played a police detective who had some rank & when he ?’d a white southern man, that man said something to him & didn’t get the answer he wanted so he slapped the black man whom he thought was inferior to him. So Sidney slapped that old white southern man right back. It was the slap heard around the world in the 60’s!
Chadwick Boseman's speech deserves to be heard by every American in these times wherein the matter of the significance of black lives remains in stark and horrific question. The courage and brilliance of this splendidly talented human being shines through every minute of his humble, gracious, and profoundly powerful address to the graduating class of Howard University in 2018. The message and import of what Dr. Boseman is saying here resounds in synchronous harmony with America's present moment here on August 29th 2020. The courage and fortitude of Chadwick Boseman's capacity to carry on with his work for the past four years despite his ongoing private suffering and struggles with the surgeries and harsh therapies required to keep his cancer at bay are an inspiration to all who call themselves human. I hope and pray this commencement speech is heard by millions who will understand and take to heart and soul the reasons why Chadwick felt compelled to stand up to the executives who wanted him to play a stereotypical character with no redeeming qualities, as such a portrayal would only serve to deepen and reinforce the most negative fixed ideations in the minds of those whose souls have been degraded as they participate and serve in the cult of racism. May we ALL learn from and struggle to emulate the ideals and real-world example set by this wonderful man. Chadwick Boseman, may you Rest in the Eternal Peace of the Lord.
I totally agree with you, what we portray for many to watch goes deeper than them just watching, many times, it does a seed into their hearts and the seed eventually grows most times. So we need to make sure we portray life, positivity and above all, LOVE AND FAITH IN GOD. 😇😇😇
This is one of the most real, human, charismatic, and truly honorable commencement speeches I've ever heard, and feel truly touched by. May your wife and family feel the Love of God's Loving arms always around them. In Jesus Name. Amen

An incredibly humble and honorable man even at the level of fame he was able to accomplish. Truly a devastating loss. RIP Chadwick Boseman.
Brother Boseman may you rest in eternal peace. Words can’t express how I feel hearing that you passed away I have wept a few times. I don’t even want to say anything things else about 2020. My L-rd, I am glad that Howard University gave you your roses while you were alive 🌹 . I would like to also thank them for posting this commencement speech. I noticed you were a man of prayer, you didn’t use a teleprompter or notes, what a talent! Your speech was honest, relatable, and pack with tools those privileged needed to hear as they headed to their respective places. It is 2020 in the midst of a pandemic, racial conflicts, and several month before the presidential election and with so much going on the gems you share about purpose and struggle every POC needs to hear. There are so many things that you shared that no one told me as I headed into the professional world. Like having a degree got me in the door but some the things I experienced forever changed me. Nevertheless, I know my purpose and I can honestly say I maintained my integrity and I didn’t compromise. There is a scripture you shared that I know but thanks for providing a different perspective on it as I wait on G-d to open my next door of opportunity: I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ~1 Corinthians 3:6-8 KJV Sir I pray that you are receiving your heavenly reward for labor 🙏🏾
I was astonished to see how he could speak without reading notes more! Just more evidence of his brilliance and greatness. This man was too good for this world...😢
Betsy Laughlin So true. I have been thinking we all have choices to become who we will. And to learn about his character at this level I thank G-d for this reminder to keep pressing on towards the higher call! I must admit I not into Afro-futurism, I am a Believer/Christian and it’s my prayer (and active goal) that G-d’s Kingdom will come on Earth as it is in heaven! I love the diversity and richness of all races, and there is a stirring in my being the treatment of POC and specifically of black people that I know is far from JUST! Even the more, I feel the urgency to be apart of helping us developing, realizing, coming into, and seeing ourselves for the greatness that we were created to be! The work I have done so far seems like a drop in the eternal bucket when I continue to see 2020 unfold. I believe all black men and women have a resilience, strength, intelligence, and beauty (and so much more) that needs to be explored, celebrated, and appreciated in all its diverse forms! Our children starve for these examples, our elders are dishonored because they are looked over waiting on the new, thus the cycle continues! To all that read: Be blessed, be of excellence, & be safe and spread life and love to each person you meet because you never know the cross that they bear!
Don’t worry - when we hear about special people - even though they have left us -their spirit and grace can still have a huge impact on others- and make people want to find out more about that person - it all works for the greater good. 🙏🏻

That's a wonderful experience, Anari! 😊 It makes a big difference when he's describing the "Hilltop"! Howard University is such a special place. Harry Belafonte spoke the year I graduated (00'). I don't know why the Lord took Chadwick but, I have to trust in His judgement. It's hard watching this knowing Dr.Boseman is dead!😔💔

I'm Guilty of Becoming Obsessed With Watching Clippings of The Honorable
Dr. Chadwick A. Boseman. I will yell it from off the tallest mountain. I'm not a shamed. Chadwick demise was just two days after my Mom's demise
August 26, 2007.

Wow the circles of life and fate
Full circle of events, like him touring Angela Bassett at Howard as a student then years later play her son in Black Panther.
The actor wouldn't learn until some time later that it was none other than Denzel Washington who generously provided the funds."
" "I've basically been holding this secret my whole career. When I came back, I got a beneficiary letter and it said Denzel Washington paid for you," Boseman recounted in 2018 during a Tonight Show interview with Jimmy Fallon. "I was like, 'What?!' I never wanted to say that until I met him."
"Boseman and Washington finally met in person at the 2018 NYC premiere of Black Panther and their exchange was sweet and hilarious. According to Boseman, when he introduced himself and told the story about Oxford, Washington cracked, "Oh so that's why I'm here? You owe me money. I came to collect!"
I didn’t know he was on all my children

There are so many things that you shared that no one told me as I headed into the professional world. Like having a degree got me in the door but some the things I experienced forever changed me.
Nevertheless, I know my purpose and I can honestly say I maintained my integrity and I didn’t compromise. There is a scripture you shared that I know but thanks for providing a different perspective on it as I wait on G-d to open my next door of opportunity:
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. ~1 Corinthians 3:6-8 KJV
Sir I pray that you are receiving your heavenly reward for labor 🙏🏾
May your soul continue rest in peace Brother
Was just thinking that, glad he was honoured.. 🙏🏾
Wow
"Sometimes you need to feel the pain and sting of defeat to activate the real passion and purpose that God predestined inside of you"
Thanks~~for watching!!!

It still hurts 😢😭may your soul rest in peace
It’s sad how things like this don’t get recognized until that person passes
Totally agreed
Don’t worry - when we hear about special people - even though they have left us -their spirit and grace can still have a huge impact on others- and make people want to find out more about that person - it all works for the greater good. 🙏🏻
I remember watching this speech 2 years ago...and he was recognized the way he should have been. Im glad he had the opportunity to do so many great things in his last years on earth. 2018 was a phenomenal year for Chadwick. Who knew that he only had 2 more years left...God knew which is why I believe he accomplished so much on these last couple years...Such a wonderful person. He will be missed dearly💔
He came to do a job. He inspired. God gave him his rest. Chad you will be missed forever.
chadwick is a very wise person and i hope he is happy r.i.p chadwick boseman
One of the best commencement speeches I've ever heard. We just lost a King but he left us with so much
I felt this speech and I'm grateful to know that he had God in his heart. Condolences to the family RIP
Thankful too, knowing that we of Christ can see him again on the other side.
