yes how I said this is what I liked the most I always held a grudge against the game for how childish and boring it was to know 100 percent that gods existed
Pietro Aldegani It’s not that childish. It’s based off real world mythology, where legendary heroes frequently contacted the gods and had their prayers answered. What are D&D characters if not legendary heroes?
@@eccoeco3454 you said knowing that the gods exist is boring, putting ambiguity on a higher pedestal. Knowing the gods exist is realistic in a universe where gods actually exist
Great video, as always! Your video format of combining informative and well-summarised lore with some thoughts and ideas for the in-game consequences of said lore is excellent, and helps, in my mind, to differentiate you from others. I would really love to see more Eberron lore videos, perhaps on Argonnessen and the Dragons?
A quite important thing is that Sovereign Host are THE gods of Eberron - they are the immaterial forces worshiped by various races under different names. The modern worship of the Sovereign Host is human in origin and has originated in warm, seaside land of Pyrine in Sarlona; despite Pyrine now being part of Riedra and thus following the Path of Inspiration, it still lives on in Khorvaire, and its tenets proved flexible enough to convert dwarves, halflings, gnomes goblins and many else from what religions they followed beforehand under pretense that their native gods were gods of the Host under different names.
Could you do a video on some of the plane shifts? They are really interesting and bring a new flavor to D&D and I think they are worth a video. (Ixalan, Amonkhet) Great video as always.
I liked the fanmade Spelljammer map at 3:45. :D Were you using it to illustrate about the possibility the Sovereign Host came outside of Eberron's possible Crystal Sphere (can't remember the name that was used for Eberron's sphere in that map)?
No Eberron isn't part of that crystal sphere template. Canon I believe it exists far away through the void in another area. It could be a super fun Spelljammer campaign to navigate through the darkness and find the "undiscovered" Eberron.
"Once removed" just means there's a generation difference, not disowned/divorced/etc. Once removed means one generation difference, twice removed means two generations, and so on. So your Dad's first cousin is still your first cousin, but they're your first cousin once removed because of the generation gap.
I’m actually in the middle of making a warforged cleric. She was once a cavalier in the war but got maimed. She was later rescued and refurbished by some field medics who all decided to dedicate themselves as clerics to the Goddess Arawai by partaking in midwifery after the war. So my warforged is a cleric of Arawai and also a midwife. She’s a kinda spindly looking thing, 1700’s stays like torso with an umbilical cord motif; long legs shaped like wheat; brass embellishments all over her and a head that’s similar in shape to Trinity Prime from Warframe.
Dolurrh is most likely just a temporary passage between that realm and what lies beyond. Kieth Baker has said as much. It’s not infinite doldrums that would just wind up in and wander forever.
I kinda wish there was more about the sovereign host and their individuality. In Wildemount, the gods had commandments to help players follow them. In the Sovereign, it feels kinda bland. Like “here’s a nature god, here’s a smith god”
One thing that bugs me is that Divine Magic is now explicitly from Faith rather than possibly coming from the gods. In the old days, this was a kind of on going debate within the setting, and I think it’s better as a mystery. Also The Silver Flame is definitely a god; the Kalashtar Path of Light is a religion about “the process of self-improvement.”
Sovereign Host basically did a campaign to strike their true names from any and all records, and largely succeeded. The Traveler and the Shadow didn’t really have true names, but the other four - Devourer, Mockery, Fury, and Keeper - did and their names are mentioned in the supplement book detailing the faiths of Eberron.
The Sovereign Host is an interesting pantheon/deity. Though personally, I prefer it to be a pantheon rather than one deity in many forms. It makes a little more sense that way (vis a vis the Dark Six) and it makes the Host and the monotheistic Silver Flame seem like two very different religions (And I do consider the Silver Flame to be a deity; the Path of Light and the Blood of Vol are Eberron's truly god-free religions). I also prefer it to be a lot more unclear how divine magic works in Eberron. That's how it was first introduced to me in the novels: divine magic might come from the gods or it might be the result of the cleric's faith; no one really knows, and it's basically impossible to check. I like that, because it feels more like religion in the real world, and it adds to the nuance of Eberron (also explains how there can be so many different religions with overlapping gods).
I like Eberron because they put more thought process in stuff, it's not yeah there is this big guy that shits out powers because you are good now it's you think there is this guy this gives space to doubt inconsistency (you and your neighbor both say your big guy is the one true big guy who is right) crisis of faith, misguided fervor and lots and lots of emotional and event complexity for a less childish and more mature take to the game still, religion symbols should be improved...
What I love about Eberron is that no one really knows if the deities really exist. Not even the celestials.

I would LOVE to see a more comprehensive series on Eberron some day.
Really a dope gameworld.

I definitely plan on doing more Eberron videos, I'll add your suggestions to my list!
Please do more Eberron I love this setting.
I'll see what I can come up with 😄
That Tree of life in 1:31 though.

Great info thanks!
Hope you start this series again now that the setting is out in the 5th!

MTG lore might be out of my jurisdiction but perhaps in the future. If they keep crossing over with D&D it might be possible :)
Eberron lore YES :D thanks !

So basically it's Medieval Catholicism. You're praying to God in general but if you have a specific prayer you talk to a patron saint.
Only if you forget the whole Inquisition or Alms or Crusades or Pope things. Sure.
@@golgarisoul Dude, structure of worship, not church policy.
Isnt the Silver flame catholicism?
arte0021 not even close.
The theocracy acts similar, but the energies of the silver flame are not the theocracy.
I currently play a Changeling Sovereign host Cleric and it’s amazing
Excellent series bro :)
Glad you enjoy it!

My mistake, thanks for the clarification 😁
so in eberron clerics and paladins magic is more akin to willpower and determination acting as a power source for magic
How is the Silver flame not a diety? Any one wanna explain that one to me?
