I know right! Her runs are amazing. Mariah is well known to have the fastest riffs, runs and melisma amoung everybody in the business. Most of the time her runs are so fast you cannot catch every notes she hit, that's crazy! That's one of the many reasons she is called The Songbird Supreme, her vocal abilities and acrobatics are on another level, a lot of people don't realize that sometime. :)
She can switch to whistle easily cause of her nodules. She sometimes does that to dodge some middle or upper chest belts, where she would usually crack. I'm not undermining her talent, she's a vocal beast. Her whistles are like Sia's voice cracks or squeaks, only she can sing and control her voice in that mode.
This is one of my most favourite mini performances of hers - just her and a piano, no backing track needed. So intimate, raw and candid. She seems so comfortable here, just her and her fans. No judgements from unappreciated people.

You are part right, in rare cases one can be born with vocal nodules. and in Mariah case she may have developed her in either infancy or toddler stages. Also, she said one morning she woke up and started talking in the whistle note. ( she could have been 3-5) at this time.

Whitney for me was the ultimate template, while Mariah was the upgrade 2.0 which included her songwriting and producing skills. This live impromtu session for her fans was a moment for her to remind everyone that she is STILL vocally on point because I think this was also during the time when media was saying she lost it vocally.
at this point i don't pay attention to the negativity she receives for bad performances and the clips that people love to make popular because most of them arent fans and anyone can tell when hearing this that as long as she takes care of her voice properly and preparing properly , she will never be "over" as people like to say.

Those are not simple runs, they are arpeggios and stacatto too sometimes. They are really hard to do because you need to separate each note perfectly and also need to seamlessly transition between registers
