Forged donation permits. Self-made donation tins. Good Samaritans. They thought they had the perfect recipe for making easy money. See how the officers from Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre caught up with the culprits and prevented a donation scam from taking place. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth also advises the public on how they can avoid being victims of such scams.

Legitimate donation does not have a minimum donation. It's a red flag when it does. Even then, questioning about the whereabouts of the organisation and money is important.
@Rajaraman Kamaraj Yes thats correct. A good example is SP flag day which i was once part of. Clear instruction is given on the can which can provide various information of the donation drive.

Primary schools should teach their students what to do when they encounter these kind of situations.

The primary school one was hard to watch, for most of us can easily refuse and walk away, but when you're just a kid with like 3 bigger people guilt tripping you it's really hard
Sadly, I got that before and was scammed by 2 different times.
I told my brother about it and he said it's most likely a scam
If a donation needs minimum sum, just walk away and if they threaten you, just call the Police when you are safe to do so.
I wonder if the primary school boy informed his parents about this?
If there's a minimum amount it makes it easier for me to reject

I have encounter this type of people around last few weeks at Jurong East MRT near smoking area. I was with a friend waiting for others at the staircase area. A young student came up to us and also asked for a minimum of $10 but I only had $5. She asked both of us to give $5 each. I really didn't want to donate because that money was my lunch money. The teenager kept nagging saying "minimum $10 only leh.". My friend just gave her $10 then she gave like a voucher. I saw her friend at the back with a $50 note and bunch of $10 while the one who was talking to us had only like $40! The next day I still saw her and still asked me to donate but I just said no even though she showed me her company name and stuff(I forgot). She just walk away then few minutes later saw two police officers questioning them. There were 3 people(could be the teenager's boss). While the teenagers are being question, the another guy asked for donations infront of police!

The thing is, it is up to the donor the amount he/she wants to donate.. Nobody can afford to ask for 'minimum' $10. Do we normally see beggars ask for $10 in public areas?

I realised a pattern within the system. They always target students. That day i was at the interchange when one of them approached me then asked me to donate. I said i did not bring my wallet and he pointed to my pouch which contained my house keys and insisted for me to donate $10. He acted nice and keeps pushing me to donate.
Then when he saw whats in the pouch, he walked away while rolling his eyes. Whats this even.
Then i noticed that he went to approach another student. It doesn't make sense to go after students at all just because they are easy targets.

I have also encountered countless because I look like a helpless teenage boy. (I mean, I kinda am one) One of them asked for a minimum of $50.
I just ask them alot of questions and then give them $2 if they ask for more i will tell them take it or leave it

The same thing happened with me! I was in the interchange with my sec scho friends and this dude was talking so fast and pushing us to donate and was acting all nice and shit and then my friends gave him some money and my dumb ass gave $1 and he gave us a pen. But me and my friends realised what happened after he left and we threw the pen away lmao

similar thing happen to me i was waiting at a mrt station for a seller then this woman approached me and ask me to donate $10 but i refused then later when she saw me again she ask me to donate saying that the seller wont come and said $10 is just small amount and i told her im a student $10 look like small amoumt to you but eats my entire day pocket money so i told her if she doesnt stop pestering i would call the cops

This is very common door to door donation I feel $10 is too much on my part ,not every body can afford the $10
Do the authorities do random checks at some hotspots?(Near Mrt stations and bus interchanges).There are plenty of these people who will ask for donations and most of then would have minimum donation sum of $10

This is not helping charity.. i used to work for a charity organisation and also help out in fund raising events.. i can 100% confirm that there is NO minimum amount for donation.. the government should shut down these type of marketing companies..

The charity set up reminds me of one in East London. I won't say the name, but although they are collecting for a registered charity, something about the way the charity is presented online and the way the donation collection is run seems a bit suspect. There's limited and conflicting information about the charity on the website, and there has been no information about the percentage that goes to the charity and how the beneficiaries are assisted through donations.

usually if it is a charity donation, it shouldn’t be forced nor should there be a minimum amount to donate. people can donate however much they want, it is a red flag if the donation is forced against the public.
