RF2 Is Dead, Long Live Le Mans Ultimate!

- With the imminent expiration of three more RFactor 2 licenses at the end of this year (in addition to the previously expired Silverstone license), RF2 appears to be nearing the end of its journey. However, this is not the end for one of the great FFB and physics game engines... rather Le Mans Ultimate is the successor to RF2. Although not branded RFactor 3, LMU keeps much of the greatness of RF2 while leaving behind most of the mess.

I am in an rFactor2 league and none of us are giving up this great sim anytime soon . We all love other sims and play them together but rF2 has been our no.1 for years . Before that it was rf1 . With 5000+ hours on Steam and many more before rF2 went to Steam I have more than had my monies worth . I am enjoying LMU and find it a difficult sim to (attempt to) master but I relish the challenge . I hope that one day there will be an rFactor3 , who knows but in the meantime there are new sims on the horizon and I am looking forward to driving each and every one . Surely sim racing can only get better ?
I drive both occasionally
I agree. I think RF2 will have its own dedicated base for awhile, but clearly it's nearing the end as a mainstream sim.
Le Mans Ulitmate feels so much better in terms of realism than any other sim (iracing included).
Clearly the best, and very accessible for its price. 30bucks for laser scanned and modern tracks, as well as most realistic cars, it’s amazing. They deserve to top off the sim racing world
It certainly does a lot better than any other sim.

Do you have rFactor 2 ?
ACC feels better ? opinon or fact ?
@@kolysion164 in my experience ACC's physics and FFB are both just slightly behind LMU.
I still think rFactor 2 hasn’t been beaten.
For me LMU does not have the same excitement, LMU’s FFB is not nearly as good as rFactor 2, but i hope LMU will get there some day.
Good video, but your prices are off no one really just wants the "base game". I was interested in LMU, but didn't know it was the same price gouging dev team that did RF2. The "base game" has like 10 cars and 7 tracks...just making numbers up but you get the idea and I'm not far off. Currently its $150 and $120 on sale if you want the full game. Sorry but I gotta rant, I cant deal with these ridiculous prices anymore, every sim game company is doing it now, no current sim is under $100 if you want the full game. its so annoying. I have the majority of this content in other games already why would I pay another $300-$350 the this game once its complete in a year or two or three. The graphics aren't much better than even RF1, pause your video at 4:24 and tell me that track doesn't look like RF1 lol. We peaked a long time ago graphics wise, so what are we paying for here? Incremental force feed back? That isn't a big deal enough to keep rebuying the same content over and over. Am I the only one who doesn't want to pay a ridiculous prices for the same content over and over again just cause its labeled as new and is in a slightly newer package?
BTCC, Porsche cup cars, mods like 90 super touring, Nordschleife, AI numbers, rFactor2 is far from being DEAD
@@kolysion164 it's hard to say that RF2 isn't at the end when their publisher is going to begin letting licenses to the content in the game lapse over the coming years. There will be those dedicated fans who continue to use RF2... But new sim racers when looking at RF2 v. LMU will almost always choose LMU moving forward.
@@ACasualRacer yeah but when I drive ACC, it feels more dynamic
@@kolysion164 everyone has a personal preference to what they feel is accurate. I will say that ACC is the 2nd best driving experience from what I can tell, and very close to LMU.
LMU does have a way more advanced tire model physics simulation, and it's hybrid & power train simulation is also more advanced. Some of that is likely due to Unreal Engine limitations for ACC. As a programmer myself, that is why I give the edge to LMU.
@@ACasualRacer dont buy LMU it's not finished, dont buy rF2 it's finished :D
You don't need a subscription to race online. Why do so many people misunderstand this? You can take part in the daily/weekly/special event races for free and race on practice servers or hosted servers or host your own servers.
They're adding a subscription service which is more tailored to esports by the sounds of it. You can continue to race online as it currently is, but the subscription service adds more, like championships and 'Le Mans Virtual' quaification for example.
Yes, but more and more is being put behind a subscription. The trend is worrying.
@@ACasualRacer Subscriptions are a real pain and they suck, and the trend has unfortunately been going on for at least a decade. Companies want control over their products and customers. You can no longer own things like you could years ago, everything is only licensed because ownership would mean you are independent of the companies. There are often no physical media, only digital products. You don‘t own a single Steam game. Don't want to wait for the disc to arrive?! just buy the digital version....these are the behaviors that have supported this in the earlier days. Some companies are fairer with subscriptions than others and use the financial opportunities to provide content and services, others simply exploit the models.
I love LMU, play it almost daily but I cannot pretend that the subscription idea doesn't terrify me.
I agree. 💯
Me too .
Why is that, you don;t need it for dailies, you don't need it for joining hosted races. Is it just because of iRenting and seeing how it works there?
I prefer the GTE's and the tyres in RF2
As a first time user from the beta after using rF1, I keep on driving rF2. Even just bought the full pack in the sale. Will buy LMU also, but at least for formula cars, still will be using rF2.
LMU is totally worth it. Grab it at its next sale.
I greatly prefer GT3 and GTE in rFactor 2 vs LMU. I just don’t feel the cars as good in LMU. LMu’s FFB is a bit disappointing, especially since the LMU team owns rFactor 2. RFactor 2 is one of the best examples of great feeling FFB. Good physics in LMU, but for now i prefer rFactor 2 and even Iracing over it.
Looking forwards for LMU team to tighten up the FFB and give the FFB better dynamic range and more weighty feel so you feel the cars load up in corners.
Looking forwards to AC Evo release perhaps even more right now.
Bought it the other day. Not sure on it yet. I think the locking up is way too aggressive but apparently they've tweaked it in the new update. So hoping it will be better because for me atm. Its not fun as I'm concentrating too much on not trying to lock up. As opposed to working on consistency and speed.
I move the brake bias forward with all setups.
@ACasualRacer yeh I tried that. Helped a little bit, actually. What did you set yours to? Think it was set to 49 on default. So I changed it to 53.
RFactor 2 is a fantastic sim im my opinion. Ive raced all of them. Its a a real pitty. I didnt enjoy the Rookie content but the rest is superb. There is a cracked Torrent available with all of the content. Maybe the private community can keep it going.
Steam workshop will continue to exist long term, so there is some potential for a small but dedicated base to continue to support the game for awhile.
If LMU is so great, why does it have so few users? Just asking, because I really don't understand how every youtube comment is really positive, and yet it has around half the number of users as Raceroom, and 10 times less than the original Assetto Corsa. I abandoned it because I became bored of the single-player offering (Race Weekend only), but everyone that comments seems to love it.
My assumption on low user numbers:
1) Motorsports Games made terrible decisions under their previous CEO who was an idiot (like not even trying to be mean, but his track history was destroying 2 other companies before Motorsports Games). Multiple disastrous releases and licensing fiascos have led to a lack of trust and there are plenty of people who won't buy Motorsports Games products anymore.
2. Even though the new CEO is doing good things (former S397 CEO), Motorsports Games has very little cash and is barely surviving as a company. This makes people uneasy to support LMU because they worry what will happen to the title if Motorsports Games folds.
3. LMU is still marketed and sold as an Early Access title... People are getting more and more tired of unfinished launch games, so I think it turns off a lot of potential buyers.
I think it's worth $37.99, try it out. The biggest thing you'll find disappointing is the lack of tracks, but just understand that going in and you won't be disappointed. It has Sebring & Le Mans, and all 7 base content tracks + 3 DLC tracks (including tomorrow's Interlagos track) are laser scanned.
Tomorrow I have a video covering the third DLC pack with Interlagos, and it's a great pack. First DLC for LMU I'd recommend whole heartedly since it includes three GT3 cars (new class, previously just GTE), and Interlagos which is the best DLC track yet imo (other two are COTA & Imola).
I don't think the price of the base game is high at all. 37 dollars for 7 Tracks, objectively the best hypercars on the market (no other sim models them to such depth), Greta graphics, performs well, Greta GTE/lmp2. I actually think it's a bargain.
Well if you like this type of racing, fine. I prefer more variety of vehicles than just GT racing.
I meant the price for the base game is reasonable but the DLC price is a bit too high in my opinion.
I think $40 for base game and $30 for the season pass would have made more sense.
@@ACasualRacer everyone will evaluate based on their finances and expectations. But next to iracing, it's a bargain
I had problems with RF2, when it was good it was superb, but I would switch from a well balanced car to one where the ffb felt light until you touched a curb and it would try and rip the wheel out of your hands. Is LMU more consistent across the different content? Are the days of editing config files a thing of the past with LMU?
Yes absolutely (biggest benefit), and mostly yes (a few more obscure wheelbases I believe need config edits).
@@ACasualRacer thanks, that was probably the biggest thing holding me back from trying LMU.
There's more players on RF2 than LMU at all times... what are you talking about??
After GT3-pack, LMU playerbase will go through the roof !
Currently user counts are roughly the same... But as more licenses expire and S397 gives only minor support to RF2 compared to LMU, those active users numbers will go down.
@DieterMaier-r6k Why? GT3 is in every sim ever made. It's dull.
@@gomezthechimp1116 because it is by far the most popular class that sim racers enjoy racing. The fact that some people get bored of it, doesn't change the fact that most people want to enjoy GT3 racing above everything else... I certainly wish more historic content was popular, it just isn't.
LMU is the future for RF2, i think motorsport games are definitely onto something, at last!!Dont get me wrong ive loved rf2, even with its optimisation issues!!!Plus the official BTCC content is fantastic, but its time to move on. I will be buying the content on the 10th, equally i will be purchasing the super tourers on RR. Just need some spare time to play it all lol!!!
It certainly is the future for Motorsport Games.
why move if you like BTCC, Indycars, Porsche cup cars, Nordschelife, Azure track, it's no sense, there is no reason to move to LMU, and WE HAVE SUPER TOURING CAR IN RF2 FAR BETTER RACEROOM
I can't even get the POS to launch. Freezes up during loading every time.
Which , rFactor2 or LMU ?
@@thebigcat499 LMU. Reinstalled, etc. RF2 runs fine. All other sims run fine. Maybe the Dec. 10th update might fix it.
@@cyprusdaedalus Since the last update LMU has been working well for me , before that I had plenty to complain about especially the menus . I hope you get it sorted soon and join in the fun .
I'd reinstall. Sounds like an RF2 bug snuck through.
its easy to get help in the official discord if you have any more issues
LMU is just GTR3. think about it. newer version but the same engine and features an official FIA series.
GTR3 inspired for sure, built on RF2 game engine.
LMU is the new KING of sims!
It certainly is the best at a lot of things!
I really like RFactor 2 and will always continue to use/support this racing game. On the other hand, LMU is too Niche of a Racing game - not enough variety like RFactor 2 is.
So that said, I do not own LMU and probably never will. I have many other racing games that keep me entertained - AC 1, RFactor 2, Project Cars 2, ACC, and AMS 2. And may get the AC EVO game when it arrives, but not right away, since it will only have a handful of tracks.
Note: I will never subscribe to IRacing, I only get one time buy games from STEAM.
LMU game just really never interested me. I have similar tracks in my other games listed above and is good enough for me. Plus I am not really interested in a GT series only game, even though I did buy ACC, and I prefer American Race Tracks which ACC has a few.
After GT3-pack, LMU playerbase will go through the roof !!
agree...i owne all sims out there, but rf2 is THJAT sim that i spent the most hours on it since 2014
it has the best physix and ffb for me a great variety of cars, BTCC and the new 992 cup Cars are simply amazing
I'm curious to see long term what tracks are added to LMU, because it really does need more tracks. It has quite a lot of car options already.
@ i‘m thinking they could add tracks from the other lemans series (elms and asia lemans series)
Best SIM actually. Can't wait for the GT3. 🔥
It certainly does a lot better than most.
