9:15 You're right. Deoyyyyy is the more traditional way of singing in Cantonese, and deooooooooy is more influenced by western singing, I'd say. In older songs you can even hear people lengthen the nasal consonants at the end, especially after a short vowel. For exmaple anita mui would sing the word 人 (person) as "yannnnnnnn" instead of "yaaaaaaaan".

to be honest, there are few other HK female singers ahead of her; Anita Mui, Sammi Cheng, etc. if choose one to represent Canto song, Joey won't be the first definitely, though can say are among the top.
I have a feeling that this vocal coach is not a big fan of canto intonations. I’ve been told by someone who doesn’t understand Cantonese that it’s a very harsh sounding language. As someone whose first language is canto, I can’t tell. But yeah, these two singers are very popular.. it seems like the vocal coach is surprised by that. I guess she may think the language is nasally or kinda closed off and not open. Canto singers don’t really belt. It’s just funny because she’s not commenting on the singing at all but just what they’re doing in the video. I don’t blame her, Miriam’s not the best singer. We don’t always have the best singers in HK, that much is true. But Joey is one of our best.

9:15 You're right. Deoyyyyy is the more traditional way of singing in Cantonese, and deooooooooy is more influenced by western singing, I'd say. In older songs you can even hear people lengthen the nasal consonants at the end, especially after a short vowel. For exmaple anita mui would sing the word 人 (person) as "yannnnnnnn" instead of "yaaaaaaaan".

楊千嬅又真係有感情好多
講真,祖兒與千華都是90年代出道的歌手,唱腔差不多停留在過去,是比較難再提升。
但歌手賣點不是新舊唱腔,最主要是唱出感覺情緒,以及形象性格都是吸引觀眾的一種,今天歌手是要經包裝,反而唱歌未必是主要,唱歌有時是用眼睛看多過聽🤣
果然紅足20幾年係有原因既

I have a feeling that this vocal coach is not a big fan of canto intonations. I’ve been told by someone who doesn’t understand Cantonese that it’s a very harsh sounding language. As someone whose first language is canto, I can’t tell. But yeah, these two singers are very popular.. it seems like the vocal coach is surprised by that.
I guess she may think the language is nasally or kinda closed off and not open. Canto singers don’t really belt.
It’s just funny because she’s not commenting on the singing at all but just what they’re doing in the video. I don’t blame her, Miriam’s not the best singer. We don’t always have the best singers in HK, that much is true.
But Joey is one of our best.
