One of the greatest days of my life.. Andy McKee, Don Ross, Antoine Dufour, and Erik Turnbull all in the same night!!! Don broke a string that night, and I snagged it after the show. : )
I saw Don and Andy and a bluegrass player in fall of 2002 at the Brooklin Community Centre with about 150 other people. Probably the best concert I'll ever see.
I almost exclusively play a 7 string electric for metal, but whenever I pick up an acoustic this is always the first thing that I want to play. Just the opening phrase alone gets me going.
I love this song and don ross for playing it when i shouted it out at the great canadian guitar fest! It was an honour to meet you sir! a definite highlight in my life!
Im a bass player and i love listening to acustic guitar and bass music. I must say that this is an outstanding piece of music wow! It really touches the inner soul and that what makes this art piece a wonderfully designed song played by a music virtuoso.. thanks for such brilliance
Don is one of my absolute favourite guitar players. One of the most original and interesting players for sure. How someone can not like this is beyond me. Let me ask a question. If you don't like this, what do you like? I listen to a lot of different music and can't understand how you can not like this. If you don't like this, you simply don't get music and should probably stick with Bieber.
funky don the man ross, yeah! if we earthlings were allowed to visit the olymp of living guitar legends, we would see you performing and all the other legends dancing :o)
Hey Trooper. All I can say is that I wrote the tune and I've played it thousands of times over the past 13 years. I simply can't play it any better than this. In my own defence, the tempo's pretty solid. Cheers.
can never get over how gorgeous that Beneteau is, sound & sight. and although i can't see myself ever being able to afford one, i do have a savings account specifically set up so that i can someday get my hands on *some*thing with a fanned fret set-up. ;b rock it, sir.
wowwowwow!!! its so hard not to move at least your head when hearing this...thats guitar music! soo great, love both versions...andys and dons but this is groooooovy!
Ah I just saw him in concert last night - he was great and also has some great vocals - even though not on youtube. I got a signed vinyl by him, which is great! He brought this guitar with him, a fan fret baritone as well as a guitar that he could disassemble - not sure what it was called. But amazing live, changing up some of these songs - and just a good performer in general.
Hi, I'm from Brazil. The musician Gustavo Fofão from Cifra Club (youtube channel) who brought me here... no regrets! Incredible! I even didn't knew the instrument... sounds beautiful
@Brandonsanity The fanned frets allow the thicker strings to stay at higher tension even when tuned lower. This is a baritone guitar, and I tune it to a baritone version of standard tuning (BEADF#B), but it retains good tension and tuning even when I tune the bottom string down to A or G!
@Rellik428 it's mainly to make the bass side's scale length longer so you can have a fuller sounding bass and maintain tension if drop tuning, all without sacrificing treble abilities, because the treble side has a shorter scale length so it can make them sound sweeter or make bending easier.
@H057IL3 they're called fanned frets i believe. It just allows the guitar to stay in tune a bit better than regular ones, because it makes the higher-pitched strings shorter. Kind of like the inside of a piano if you've ever seen it :)
Don, amazing performance!! I like the audio processing from 2:16 , kind of stereo chorus... The mix of your Beneteau pickup signal and the AKG1000 combines really good. Agustin
Just so everyone knows, there is an older video of Don Ross playing this song which was released before Andy's video. For some reason or another Andy has recieved more views for his version, but Don's was released first. The only reason why Andy gets more views is because he's the superstar here, he has the most views at least... So people check him out more than Don.
@Britbikr57 The hardware is angled to make each string a different length. Longer bass strings allow you to tune them lower without losing tension in the string. And it looks cool too ;-)
@eyemoses Since its a baritone acoustic, Beneteau did that so it would have perfect intonation anywhere on the neck. Don talked a little about it when I saw him live.
@CanadaGuy80 It absolutely does have something to do with the ergonomics. What you stated was about intonation and which is true, it is also true that these fretboards are designed to fit the natural curve of the hand.
@Ca2roline it's all about intonation. most electric guitars allow you to change the intonation by moving the string saddles forward or backwards but not on acoustics so they slope the frets to achieve the same result.
@CanadaGuy80 - They do it to get longer scale lengths on the bass strings and shorter scales lengths on the trebles. More tension for the bass to accomodate D or B tunings, without having to sacrifice playability on the trebles.

he's got guitar playing skills, head bobbin skills, amazing taste in guitars skills, kick ass blanket back drop choosing skills, and stuff
I almost exclusively play a 7 string electric for metal, but whenever I pick up an acoustic this is always the first thing that I want to play. Just the opening phrase alone gets me going.
This man has incredible stage presence. Even though he's sitting down, the dude makes you want to groove just as much as he does.
Don Ross FTW!!!
I love this song and don ross for playing it when i shouted it out at the great canadian guitar fest! It was an honour to meet you sir! a definite highlight in my life!
Dude, seriously, this guy need more views!! We need this kinda music on the airwaves, no doubt!
Damn!! I'm just head over heels in love with those fan-fretted guitars!!!! Must have one to tinker with
love the way different players bring something different to this song
But Don has always had that ultra-crisp clarity
Undeniably the OG
Don's music speaks to my soul. I get shivers everytime. So beautiful.
I've wasted 1 year of my life trying to find this! Thank god I finally found it! Amazing and flawless guitar skills!
I caught Andy McKee in Pittsburgh 10-26-11. He opened with this tune and gave a nod to Don Ross. Great to hear it from the origin!
Im a bass player and i love listening to acustic guitar and bass music. I must say that this is an outstanding piece of music wow! It really touches the inner soul and that what makes this art piece a wonderfully designed song played by a music virtuoso.. thanks for such brilliance

all i can do is smile and shake my head in awe!
What a guitar. Mmmmm, love the baritone
Absolutely brilliant, it reminds me of the time i saw Don Ross & Andy McKee at Shepton Mallet in the UK, what an amazing show. Made my year :D
HOW!!! How can someone play so flawlessly!
Ah I can't wait to see him tomorrow in London! It's gonna be awesome!

Don't give up!! he wasn't born like that it took time and hard work!! everyone can reach this level with motivation and persistence!
perfect. i love seeing these pieces evolve over time
Not only is Don an incredible musician but the quilt is pretty impressive too!
I love the knew rhythms. Great new spin to an old favorite! 5 stars!
I love this tune. It has a part reminiscent of the bass line of "Roundabout" mixed with a tiny part of the melody of "Saved By Zero".
That is the most beautiful acoustic guitar I've ever seen
he knows exactly how amazingly badass that main lick is and I love it
Amazing tune, gorgeous resonance in this guitar, and beautifully played...Giv'er Don.
The groovy tunes never get old. I'm a funk freak.
funky don the man ross, yeah!

You probably get disapointed when you wake up in the morning. Don Ross is the man!
Good to see Mr. Ross doesn't lose his guitar power when he cuts his hair :). Classic!
Amazing as always

@Jacobh0846
100% agree, this is sublime music. Beautiful.
